Customer Reviews

It is a neat piece of ceramic.I do not recommend sleeping on this as it will leave a honeycomb pattern on your face. I guess that might be good for some sort of costume effect at Halloween. What it does excel at is heat resistance. I do not know if it would survive a trip through the sun's corona, but, it does tolerate a heating torch quite well. Mine arrived in a single piece (which was nice).5Honeycomb Ceramic Soldering Board Jewelers Third HandI use this to solder small pieces of jewelry and copper. I also do some circuit board work and also use this as a base for soldering on components as needed. If you do this kind of soldering, this is a good light weight base to heat up your components be they transistors, resistors or jewelry. I like it.4Really Small! Maybe too small?I should have paid more attention to the listing where the size is specified: it's about 5-1/2" x not quite 4"It works and does what you need, but I thought it would be bigger than it is. The small size makes it easy to misplace, especially on a crowded workbench. Strictly my fault for not reading more carefully. The seller lists the dimensions right at the beginning.4This unit is much smaller than I thought it was from viewing the pictures.Very Small, and it is not flexable.4One StarIt came broken. Split in 21Lightweight, airy, works well! Happy customerVery happy with this product. Used for soldering and annealing small precious metal for jewelry making. It arrived in one piece! Propane torch turns it red. The holes are very small, approximately 1.5 mm for each hole. The hole sizes are very consistent, but the material between the holes are slightly inconsistent... approximately .5mm to .75mm. The holes are perfectly round, not hexagonal, but they are placed in a honeycomb pattern. One face is completely smoothed flat and level, while the other face is "ridged"/divoted... not completely smoothed flat, but it is even and still level. The non-smoothed side seems to have been purposefully manufactured in this manner, not slopilly created. Full size is 13.5cm by 9.5cm by 1.15cm5I don't recommend touching it after solderingIt's okay. I used a file to sort of carve out a space to sit things down inside the opening. Do know that if you drop you solder chip or if it pops off because you heated the flux to fast the chip will fall through the tiny holes and go underneath the thing. It doesn't seem to get as hot as other boards so I do believe it reflects the heat back as it says it will do. I don't recommend touching it after soldering. I don't recommend touching it after soldering... I don't recommend... (I've touched it after soldering and surprisingly it's not that hot. Having said that don't burn yourself). It is holding up great even in the spots where I carved some of it out. I expect it will last for a long time.4Great heat shieldI have used this ceramic heat shield, along with a butane torch to heat color a few different projects: coins, Titanium pieces, and Titanium knife scales/parts. This ceramic board has two different surfaces, one is completely flat, and the other is slightly raised (like egg crate foam); the later is good for minimum contact with the work piece.Related Products:Blazer GB4001-02 Stingray Butane Torch, Blue5I Like The Stable SurfaceI love having a stable platform to do my torch soldering that is fairly smooth (as apposed to a fire or charcoal brick), and by the way I set it on top of a firebrick to protect my work bench when soldering. I can use the holes for pins to hold the pieces steady too. I will buy another when/if this one wears out (it may not wear out ever it seems incredibly sturdy). I am also purchasing one without the holes for soldering things like bezels where I need to lay the solder down on the surface supporting the solder piece as close to the seam as I can get it. With the holes in this platform, the solder drops through when working on those kinds of pieces. However, this little platform is really great for attaching bezels to backing pieces where the solder lays fully on the piece being soldered. The heat is quickly dissipated when you remove the torch because of the holes, so you have more control over heating the piece because you are pretty much only heating the piece. The surface of the platform doesn't get eaten up by the heating/cooling extremes either. It is hardly marked at all from the torch after several pieces worth of work I have done. I really do love this soldering board.5goodthis is my first soldering block. I probably should have started with charcoal for my purposes, but I put some foil under this and it's functioned just fine. sometimes it sounds like it's going to crack, but it doesn't. I'm using a mid-small size butan torch.5
