Customer Reviews

Pretty irritated.Purchased this projector at the end of August 2017 lamp should have had a usage life of 10,000 hrs we do not use this very often and the bulb has already died....warranty is only for 90 days. So now have to buy a new bulb which is about $100. Pretty irritated.1Love this projectorLove this projector, this makes my third projector. I refinished our basement years ago and put in a 110 inch screen and projector. But the previous projectors were the DLP technology with the color wheel. Both of those projectors because of the number of hours of use required a yearly bulb replacement and both of them the color degraded over time as I think the heat from the bulb yellowed the lens of the plastic color wheel, and both also has the color wheel fail. So I decided to go the LED route. Best decision I made, going strong after 2 years of use and the color is just as bright and vibrant as ever.5An excellent value! The Epson Home Cinema 1040 is an excellent device if you're looking for a projector that can do well in a variety of light conditions, has beautiful bright colors, and is excellent for gaming. The projector is easy to set-up directly out of the box. After plugging it in and pointing it at the wall I popped in Ron Fricke's Samsara into my PS4 and was greeted with beautiful, eye popping color. Noise wise, I only really notice the auto iris while browsing Hulu and Netflix's menus, but it's a feature that can be turned off if it's irritating. The fan is no louder than my PS4/Computer and really isn't noticeable. My one complaint is that it turns off immediately after powering down and there's no cool down protocol. The picture is clear and crisp and movies such as Into The Void, Interstellar, and Samsara all look excellent. If you're concerned about rainbows this model is perfect since it's a 3LCD projector and therefore doesn't have to worry.Even with overhead lights on the projector is plenty bright, so it's excellent for a living room. I've mainly been gaming on it and PS4 games look gorgeous in bright 1080p.Of course, the projector isn't perfect. The lack of audio out is mind boggling although it's not unheard of as more devices such as the PS4 come equipped with dedicated audio out ports. The speakers on the projector are serviceable but they really do suffer from distortion at higher volumes and are way worse than iPhone/MacBook speakers. The lack of a cool down protocol makes me slightly nervous to turn it off as it can get kind of hot and I worry about that.Pros:Excellent pictureBright and versatile for different light conditionsGood response time for gamingLightEasy to set-upCons:Sound qualityFan doesn't run after turning off.5good for movies and gamingI've got curtains that let light in so it's not really bright enough during the day. At night this thing is a beast. My last projector had rainbows so I didn't want that. I've heard that DLP supposed to be a little bit sharper but the picture on this is blowing me away. hard to imagine that it can get even better.one star off because it's not really bright enough to replace my TV during the day.had to update since this projector is one of the best purchases Ive made. was finally able to control the light in the room. I project on the wall at 155" hooked up to the PC and PS4 looks glorious.5Is really great, Can watch it with all the lights on ...Is really great, Can watch it with all the lights on or even in full daylight. Picture is great, easy to hook up and get working. The audio is not very good so a sound bar is something you should consider for the best experience also, mounting it is a must it is very bright so is best to have above eye level. We love this projector its without a doubt the best we have ever owned and is certainly one of the best TV's in general. HIGHLY Recommended!!!!!5Epson lives up to its reputation of excellent projectors! This projector is used extensively for conducting training classes. It is bright enough to cast images on a wall, though it certainly works best on a screen. I would recommend it for pretty much any regular sized classroom. It does get quite warm in use, and the internal fans seem to shut down as soon as you turn off the power, as opposed to running for a while to exhaust the built up heat. This is minor inconvenience if you are in a rush to put it into the carrying bag. I prefer to let mine cool down closer to room temperature. Nonetheless, I do not hesitate to recommend it.5and good lord, the picture is sharp and crispI picked this up when it was on sale for $450, and I have to say, it was an absolute steal. I just bought a house and bought this with the intent to use it to play movies outside in the back yard and to just use as a substitute for a second TV. This projector completely blew me away.I plugged my RaspberryPi into it, and good lord, the picture is sharp and crisp, and the colors are bright and vivid. As expected, the sound output is pretty average, but that seems to be pretty standard these days with TVs and projectors alike. I went ahead and picked up an HDMI audio extractor for the best sound quality. As there is a newer model out for a little less than the current price of this projector ($649), and given there are other projectors that are competitive or better quality in this price range I can't say I'd recommend it at this price point-but if were to go on sale for close to what I paid, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.5Picture looked great but my textured wall was holding it backFinished my basement which included a theatre room. It was my first gonat this so I had no idea what to buy. Look at reviews on an endless number of units and still was indecided. In the end I decided to go with this one.Realm number one. It has 2 HDMI so no adapters or anything needed. Number 2 price! Got it after cyber Monday. Saved $350.Packaged arrived and with 15 minutes I had it projecting off the wall. Picture looked great but my textured wall was holding it back. Several dTs and a blizzard later my screen arrived. I'm in love with the results! Beautiful crisp picture on screen. The speaker inside the projector casts a damn good audio. So good I'm honestly debating the need to finish my surround or purchase a sound bar. Great unit. I think I hit the novice buyer jackpot. Both pictures are with the screen.5Nice, average projector, decent value for the money.First, let me say that this projector works just fine for one in this price range. My point of view is comparing it to other projectors that I have installed that were within $200 of this one. It was mounted in a small office and is used primarily for presentations, training demonstrations, and slideshows. This is not a professional level, large event space projector. The throw distance is relatively short, covering a roughly 80 - 100 inch screen at about 10 feet. Even at 1920 x 1080, the picture quality starts to get washed-out around that size. Also, for a 3000 lumen rating, it doesn't appear to be that bright. It seems more on-par with about a 2500 lumen projector. That could just be my perception, based on the location of the lighting in that room. Also, the time it takes to get to full brightness seems quite slow compared to other 3000 lument projectors that I have installed for customers. Since the bulb is among the most expensive piece of a projector, the price-range of this projector would explain those last 2 complaints. I also found the horizontal keystone settings to be somewhat large increments. I wish they were smaller, but that is just me trying to get it perfectly sized based on a slightly off-center position relative to the screen. Otherwise, the range of adjustment was impressive. The vertical keystone adjustments worked great, also with a wide range of adjustability, and nice granularity to the steps. One quirk I noticed... if you accidentally turn it off, it will take a minute or two to turn on again.Otherwise, this projector has good color, saturation, resolution, and brightness for its price point. Nothing spectacular, and nothing terrible. A good, middle of the road projector for presentations. I cannot attest to how well a movie looks on it, or the quality of the sound from its tiny built-in speakers.4Annoying Hard drive noises during movies and sportsI WISH there were some way to shut off the stupid hard drive that keeps grinding away. The projector has great picture quality very bright and clear easy to set up an easy to use. I ve been using it to watch television. I don t recommend for TV or sports or movies because there seems to be some physical hard drive embedded in the projector that keeps making noise whenever the scene changes on screen. I suppose it is storing images so that you can freeze the screen when you want. That might be great for the office and PowerPoint presentations, but for sports and movies it is very annoying4
