Customer Reviews

Seemingly a Good Easy To Install Product, But Poor Instructions. I just installed this unit, so my experience with it is very limited at this point in time. I will try to update as I gain experience. My reason for buying this is over the summer I added a ductless heat pump to our house, primarily for AC, but I want to know what it costs to run the unit as a heat pump in order to determine when to switch over complete to the gas furnace as temperatures decrease. The first thing an owner will note is that the directions are really not very well written in the paper instructions that come with the unit, but fortunately it's pretty obvious what you need to do. There are also instructions on the company's web page, but they too are not terribly detailed. As to installation, there are two clamp sensors which you need to place around your incoming main wires in your circuit breaker box, and then there's a transmitter that needs to be installed within reach of the wires from those sensors. It would be nice if they provided some tape or foam or something so that you could keep the sensors in place--on mine they were rather loose and would just fall with gravity. You do need to determine a way to get the wires out of the breaker box--if you use a new punch out make sure you place some sort of protective device to keep the wires from being damaged by the rough edges. Not as huge of a deal as for wires carrying current, but still a concern. My install was easier because my breaker box is not entirely surrounded by sheet rock. The device takes 3 AA batteries, and has three plugs of which most houses in the US need to use two. I don't think it matters which two, and the manual doesn't say. [Edit 10/11/16: The company confirmed that it doesn't matter which two holes you use.]Next you take the receiver end and hook it to your router using the very nice short Ethernet cable provided. The wall wart power supply comes with a US adapter, and only a US adapter. Plug the device in and it should recognize things in short order. You then need to go to a computer on your network and create a log in for their site. From there once you enter your data the system will setup the receiving hub and the transmitting sensor. For me the process went uneventfully except that while it recognized both devices there was no data being transmitted from the sensor. I don't know if that was just a wait for it to happen situation, but I had it re-check for sensors, after which things started working. What you can do on the web is rather limited. You can enter attributes of your property and appliances, but I'm not really sure yet what good that does. You can enter the cost ("tariff") of your electricity. Note that is in cents, not dollars, while the budget is in dollars. The main thing you can do from the web is see your current usage (in Kw) and your historical data (day/week/month/year) and download reports. They also have an Android app where after you sign in you can do many of the same things that you can do on the web. That would probably be useful for monitoring current usage as you hear things turn on and off.Anyway, so far so good. The main issue is poor directions, but the process is pretty simple.Edit 10/9/16: The electrical usage seemed to be way off, with it being reported I was using much more electricity than typical. I had added a 600 watt dehumidifier, but even accounting for that the readings seemed high. I had adjusted the voltage down to 120 before, but that had not affected the reported usage. Turns out I just didn't leave it at that setting long enough. At 120 volts the usage seems more accurate. I had sent an email to the company asking the proper voltage for a US system, but they never responded, so customer service doesn't seem to be their strong suit. Edit 10/11/16: The company did respond indicating the correct voltage in the US would be 120.Speaking of the company, one thing people need to realize is that with this particular product if the company goes out of business I think the product is probably done functioning. Their products that sell hardware displays probably would keep functioning, but I don't think this product would because I think the data is sent to the company and then back to your computer for viewing.Edit 11/27/17: The company has had a couple of web outages, so I can no confirm that the device isn't much good if they go entirely out of business. The website though is good for reviewing historical data from prior years, so that is worth a lot. A new use I have is monitoring a heat pump. Summer AC uses surprisingly little power, but this device is handy to try to determine at what temperature to convert to another heat source in the winter months. Overall I remain happy with this purchase and check out my energy use on a daily basis. 4Great tool to use to find out where your wasting ... Great tool to use to find out where your wasting energy. I'm not done doing individual breakers but i have an idea that the water heater is the energy hog along with the refrigerator and well. I'm going to use the Engage on a heat pump water heater that a friend has and see if its worth it or not. My only request wold be for the CT's to displayed separately so you can do separate breakers, its fine for 208 loads. 5Simplicity, great! Easy and affordable to use. The user guide online is enough to install and operate it. It's amazing tool to know my electricity usage. I buy another transmitter for a solar tied grid and connect to my hube kit. I think the data report its too usefull, I'm try it yet 5Cool device to get real-time electricity metering I found it easy to install, and it is so cool to have access to very detailed data of my energy usage on my comouter and on my phone. This is ideal for those who want to go beyond a Kill-a-Watt device where you meter one item at a time. I can turn on and off items in my house and instantly see how many KW it is using every 5 seconds. I'll probably upgrade and get more clamps to break down my usage by individual circuit in the future. 5Overall it's a great product Like's Easy to install, appears to be prity accurate, easy to read.Dislike's I wish there was an app for the computer so when the intrnet goes out, Power consumtion could still be monitored in real time. 5Readings are not acurate. Readings are not accurate. At least 30% off. Amp-probe readings are different comparing to the sensors information. Constantly loosing connection to the sensors. Sensors are 20ft away in the same garage with the receiver. Also have to reset and reconnect it to the network 2-3 times a week. Android application has some bugs too. Customer service stopped responding after 3 emails. Didn't resolve an issue. 4 months later decided to disconnect it . 1Poor quailty, not accurate I have been using these for the last eleven months. I monitored total current into my home and current used by one 30 Amp circuit. The one monitoring the total current into the house was initially about 30% higher each month than the actual billed amount. Eventually it failed and was replaced after I showed their support staff graphs displaying intermittent reception. They replaced it with a new one that worked for a few months and now it is reading about 50% lower than the actual bill is measuring each month. The one I used for the 30 Amp circuit probably was also inaccurate but I had no way to actually confirm that. It failed after a few months. It was installed where it got damp from wind blown rain. I opened it up and there was rust on the circuit board. There was no gasket to prevent moisture from entering the case.I do not recommend this product. 1so I hope you enjoy creating new email addresses just for fun The hub can't be registered and customer service don't understand their own product well enough to provide help. Every time you need to attempt to register it, you have to do so with a new email address, so I hope you enjoy creating new email addresses just for fun. 1Don t waste your time. Short version - DID NOT WORK!!!Long version - spent 3 solid days trying all kind of way to connect hub to my router and get a response. No result. Wrote an email to support. Got a response 2-3 days later with suggestion I have already tried and described in the first email. Wrote second email. Had no response. Tried calling the us office no response. Tracked down Spain office after calling many times finally got an answer at 2am ( time difference). Gentleman politely explained they do not provide support over the phone, but to be patient and wait for email response that, by their policy, must be done within 48 hours. But if you send another email that time resets.Problem was that hub was not connecting to my network. On my router side it got an up address and open port. No firewall issue or restrictions.Don t waste your time pay $150 more for sense. 1Awesome whole house monitoring Love this hardware. I've had the e2 with the tiny screen for a while, so I bought the hub kit that let me monitor the mains, and I reused my e2 sensors to track my AC and tesla usage. Now I see how often my AC cycles on, and if the AC ever has an issue and runs non stop, I'll know about it before it's left unattended and running up my power bills. The only issue I had is that I bought the dual phase sensor kit and when i monitor both mains coming into my panel, the power is counted twice. I verified this by charging my tesla, which uses 7kw and it counted 14kw. So I simply unhooked the second sensor and reused it with my AC. 5
