Customer Reviews

Great when it worked, but I can't recommend!Initially, I was extremely happy with the DYMO Industrial RHINO 5200 Label Maker; I worked as advertised and allowed me to complete a cable wiring project with neatly printed labels. The reason for the 1 star is that, the display is no long working, you are able to see the backlit yellow but there is no text or lines of any kind being displayed. The unit has only been used for the one project, it was stored in a climate controlled computer room in the case.I have tried all the options in the troubleshoot portion on the manual, I have always attempted a factory reset using information from the Dymo website. Since, other reviewers have indicated the same issue, I can only assume it is a design defect or poor quality control. It was great when it worked, but its not a good value when it stops working after minimum use.1My pack of labels are defectiveI ordered the 3 pack 19mm labels and the first issue was the cartridge jammed the label tape several times.I thought maybe it's because they're compatible labels and OEM labels since they have more then 4 stars ratting. Then the prints started to have black lines and areas which is unacceptable. Not being able to complete my work labeling the network appliances i decide to measure the length of tape in the cartridge and it was on 9 feet instead of the listed 11.5 feet!!!I'm going to try another brand or the OEM to make sure the label maker itself is not the problem as it is a good quality Dymo 5200.2Great labeler, especially for field installsThis is pretty decent from a small sampling. I was very concerned about the amount of waste, as I've had labelers in the past be very wasteful. This label maker is small, efficient with the buttons, and the display is easy to read. The fact the label maker will recharge an included battery is very nice. I've opted to load it with 6 rechargeable batteries, and keep the included battery as a backup. My only dissatisfaction is the inability for the labeler to detect the cartridge tape size. I'd add a few dollars to the cost of the unit, and a few cents to each cartridge for automatic detection; and be happier with the product. The included labels are kind of crappy, and have a crease in them. I've only bought two shrink wrap label cartridges, so maybe it's not a very good cross section on my part. So far I am very happy with the build quality and ease of use. This unit, does, thankfully have a manual cutter. The option to print consecutively and cut with scissors after is a nice way to save on waste.5Printed heat shrink is fantastic for labeling wires and this printer can do itI ordered this specifically to print heat shrink tubing. Printed heat shrink is fantastic for labeling wires and this printer can do it. Unfortunately, I haven't been very happy with it. Issues:-the DYMO brand heat shrink cartridges are stupidly expensive-it doesn't feed well and sometimes tears the black plastic ribbon-the head need constant cleaning-this printer can't accept the 1 inch shrink tube-the heat shrink tube sizes are not well suited for common wire sizes-the keyboard layout is "A, B, C, D" and not "Q, W, E, R, T, Y"I don't think Dymo sells a heat shrink printer which can both do 1 inch labels and has a QWERTY keyboard. There are nonDymo labels for sale on Amazon which are substantially less expensive, but the options are limited.2Not impressed; came w/ defective cartdridge; standard label templates are a plusI am really not impressed with the quality of the printing of this machine. The Brother printers have better resolution. Also, when you print a small label it gets stuck inside the ejection tube and you need to tilt the machine to get it out. So annoying. It also comes standard with a cartridge P/N 18445, but mine came defective (the carbon roll came out of the track, see picture). On the positive side, I like the fact that the machine has templates for many types of cables (Cat x, coax, copper, etc.) and resizes the text and symbols to the length required or the template. That is a really nice feature and saves you time in the field.3Great buy! Amazon warehouse deal!!I bought this label maker as a used unit or open box item. I paid a fraction of the normal price and when item arrived i was pleased to say the paper on the outside cover on the box was damaged and that was it. It was a amazon warehouse deal and the case nor label maker has ever been opened or used. This is my second DYMO rhino 5200 i have owned and my first one has been used on construction sites and beat up in my truck for a few years and it still prints fine. It still looks new these printers are built to be abused and used for years so when i seen it for such a low price i just had to buy it. If you or your crew are tough on tools this one will stand the test of time and abuse. And you will have a better looking job every time you use this. Just keep your eyes on it people will walk off with this quick!5A great Label maker for the professional and advanced enthusiast.I had never used a label maker since I was young and back then all I could afford was the old clicker style. My wife bought the DYMO 160 for the house at a sale in Home Depot and we love it. Since I am pretty big in wood and metal working I decided to buy the Rhino 5200 and go "all out" as they say :) I really love this big baby. It pretty much can do everything I would dream off and then some. I have used it so far to re-label my house and shop's electrical panel, I am using it to make audio wire labels for my stereos and home theater and in general to organize everything around the house and shop. I am a tool junkie so having this even for relatively limited use is no issue for me. The results count...and everything is now so much easier to find around the shop, tool shed and house.Using the label maker is a little complicated but with some practice I now can do pretty much everything with it. Not as intuitive as the DYMO 160 but we are not comparing apples to apples either. The Rhino 5200 can do so much more that it is logical for it to be more complicated to use. The manual is easy to follow though and everything you need to learn is there. I wish they had different manuals for each language though instead of the way they have multiple languages in each page...a small complaint of course compared to how much I love this unit. The screen is easy to read and also lighted, the unit feels great in your hand and it is pretty logically designed for use. I highly recommend this to all professionals that need one and to all tool enthusiasts that would love to lay their hands on a great LB.5Brother PTD600 vs. Rhino 5200. This one wins!I have both labelers, Brother PTD600 and the Rhino 5200.Both work great but the Brother will not do shrink labels. I use the Brother at the desk and the Rhino on everything else. One thing the Rhino shines is it s designed to go wherever you need to go and will put up with abuse because it s designed for heavy industrial work. Some don t like the display on the Rhino but it s perfect for what it s intended for. Contrast can be adjusted to whatever situation you come about. Bright light or no light, it just looks great! Fully adjustable for your situation.Get the one with the case, rechargeable battery and AC adapter. The case is great and holds all manner of different cartridges. I use Aonomi labels and they work great with it and are cheaper than Dymos branded labels.Love the fact there are no batteries to use up the lithium ion battery last a long time and can always be charged up even while using it.If I had one to just have it would definitely be this one. It s a specialty labeler so it s designed for industrial use. Ptd600 is more designed for home or office not industrial.5Where was this 10 years ago? How did I get by without it?I work in IT and electronics. I have a lot of wires, setup, components and a lot more that needs labeling. For 2 decades my trusted "Brother" label maker did an OK job, but there were lots of issues. Fonts for one thing - cannot write ohms, superscript or a lot more outside the traditional A-Z - and even if the symbol existed, it's way hard to find unless you use it often. I also had to look very careful to ensure the settings were set right.I looked for a better solution and came across the DYMO - on the pricy side but it sold me on the ability to print on shrink wrap - something I still have to test. Because when it arrived, I was BLOWN AWAY with how easy it was to create cable labels, patch panel labels, control fonts, sizing and dimensions. Heck, I can tell it how wide I want my label and it automatically adjusts the size of the print to fit! It saves so much time. It's rugged, rechargable, extremly easy to change labels with (The Brother model often ate labels requiring clearing and "fixes"). I can have very wide labels in this, very narrow and just be productive. It's got extensive fonts for all kinds of jobs, including electronics and cable labels. You can even print out bar-codes!The only thing it may need is the ability for me to upload a file with a ton of data I need printed on labels, but I'm sure it's there - I just haven't found it yet. Another thing I love is when you print copies, it stops between each copy so you can cut the label. No more scissors!Well worth the price!5the resolution was not that good. Some times letters where not as cleared as ...Only have used for vinyl tapes. Sometimes the tape gets clogged inside for no apparent reason. Using the DYMO vinyl tape, the resolution was not that good. Some times letters where not as cleared as expected. The functions for panels and fixed labels are useful and easy to use.3
