Customer Reviews

Easy to use First you have to remove the coating best to resharpen a dull cheep knife. When you think you distroyed the dimonds in a few minutes than it is ready to go. More pressure more sharpening less finer edge. Dont use water or oil. Water to clean it paper towel to dry it just tap it dont drag. oil only if you buy a special for diamond stones otervise the oil just make the knife skipping the dimonds. Use the rubber under it dont ruin your contertop! 5I realized I ordered the wrong size, but it ... I realized I ordered the wrong size, but it works it is 2"X6" 400/1200 ... I also ordered a 3"X8" 600/1200 EZE-LAP because it is what I wanted in the first place and it is easier to sharpen larger knives with the larger surface area. 4Maybe Not Cheap But Does A Good Job Have a variety of stones, sticks, strops and hones. Seem to always come back to this one for small to medium blades (although I have used in on a 12" chef's knife several time with good results). When I can't get an decent edge with a good steel, a few strokes on each side of this gets the blade back on track. Buy it. 5This is the one I have a set of kitchen knives that have turned butter knife dull over the years. I've seen videos of people claiming a knife is "dull", and they can still slice paper. These were truly beyond dull. You could whack them against your hand and not get hurt at all. Paper would just crumple under the blades.I had tried other sharpening systems, like the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Problem is that the knives were just far too dull for that system to work. I ordered this and hoped for the best. I spent an hour on the block tonight, and after about an hour and a half, I wound up with a knife that could shave hair with a bit of effort. I cut up some onions and peppers and was grinning the whole time. The blade just glides through the vegetables, it's amazing. I truly though that these knives were beyond gone, but with this block I was able to bring at least one back. Currently working on the second blade, and I can feel the edge slowly coming back.My advice is to use only light pressure and understand that it will take a long time if the knife is extremely dull. 5arrived in good shape. sharpened several knives.it is going fishing in November. 5Best Sharpening tool Best sharpening tool I've had in 70 years of sharpening knives! You have to be able to hold a consistent angle for it to work. 5This is the real deal This is by far the best knife sharpener I have ever used. It is able to take metal off the edge of the knife quickly and at the right angle. Take an old knife and get the hang of it first and watch a Youtube so you can see the procedure.... it helps. The angle of blade to stone is important. I have some thin blades that take less angle than the thicker blades on my pocket knives. 50 dollars seems like a lot but if what you buy is sub standard and does not get it done....... that's a waste of money. I have other sharpeners that failed to measure up. No matter what the hardness of the metal this stone will not fail. 5Great price for a diamond stone! Finally I have sharp knives again! It works!! I'm really glad I went with the diamond stone rather than a regular stone and this one is a good price. I've never sharpened before and got this one off a youtube video of a professional sharpener. For years our sharp knives have lasted a few months and then just gotten duller and duller unless I paid some high price for someone to sharpen them again, only to last 6-9 months before getting dull. I've bought a standard sharpener before this one (roller type) that was highly recommended here and it actually dulled the knife compared to what it was before. Using this I got it back to the point that I like though now I'm looking at a good stropping leather to get them sharp enough to shave with! (well at least to do the paper test fully). I've sharpened several knives with this now and gotten them all back to great usability from being near worthless. I've never sharpened knives before and every simple to use sharpener I've bought in the past has not worked. I always thought I needed a sharpener that set the angle for me (like the roller types) but I found it was very easy to find the right angle to use when using a stone. Spend the money for this stone, watch some youtube videos on how to do it properly and I think you'll be very satisfied. 5Disappointed... but pleased. Disappointed... I received an opened, used, defective item... Possibly a previous return. The fine side of this stone has evidence of usage, and a bald spot where the diamond material is missing. For nearly $50, I should at least get a new item... I'm just disappointed because this should be a good sharpener.I am changing my rating on this stone from 1 to 5 stars... In spite of the condition I received it in, I decided to try it anyway. The result, even with a small defect on the fine side, is that this stone is really easy to sharpen with. I payed too much for this one, but I'm going to keep it anyway, because I'm pleased with how it performs. 5Make sure it lays perfect flat to the surface it's on and doesn't skid, Use the rubber skid pad to insure it stays put. Works fast on hard carbon steel blades just like Walter Sorrels proclaims in his knife making videos. The 400 grit side gets the blade in shape and the 1200 grit side fine tunes it to razor sharp. Hard steel takes time to sharpen. Be patient and make sure the angle is right. When it needs resharpening the second time around will be accomplished with just a few strokes of the 1200 grit side if you don't damage the edge using the blade. Remember...BE PATIENT! I use water and a toothbrush to clean mine when it needs it. 5
