I should have known better than to buy a rechargeable device that runs on ... I charged the device as instructed, then used it twice, for about three minutes each time, on subsequent evenings. A week later, I grabbed it to go walk with the dogs and it was completely and totally dead - not dim, dead. The instructions say not to leave it plugged in, so I'm not sure what to do with this light. I suppose it would be ideal for anyone who knows 12-hours in advance when they're going to need a flashlight, so they can plug it in and have it charged and ready to go. For the rest of us mere mortals without such a gift of prophecy, another device will have to do. I should have known better than to buy a rechargeable device that runs on anything but lithium ion. 2Great home emergency flashlight So far, so good! I needed a nice, rechargeable flashlight since my wife has a habit of leaving it on when she sets it down and I got tired of buying batteries all the time. When searching for a solution, I decided on a flashlight that plugged in to charge versus buying rechargeable batteries. This one fit the bill and was a very nice price as well. Charged it over night and have yet to put it back on charge. Its used almost daily to go from house to out buildings every night to ensure all is locked down. Its plenty bright, has a nice wide pattern, and is light and comfortable in the hand. 5Very nice and good deal I'm very impressed with this flashlight. Quality is nice for the money. I use it for walking my dog. Very bright and well focused. It reaches a solid beam to a clear distance of about 1000 feet. It also holds its charge at full power for about an hour and a half and from there slowly dims down. I get two good walks out of it before I recharge it, but I could get three. Even in the short time I've owned it I've likely saved four or 5 dollars on batteries, at that rate it won't take long for it to pay for itself. Would buy again for sure. 5Dollar for Dollar, the Brightest Flashlight I Own One of my students brought this light to class. He found it on the side of the road several months previously. He had only the flashlight & hadn't charged it for months & it looked like it was a little scraped up like it had fallen off a vehicle at high speed. Well, after months of not charging the built in battery, this light was still one of the brightest lights in the room & it felt like it was a high quality flashlight.So, I bought one. After charging it for 12 hours for the initial charge, I've been using it for a short time & I love it. I have smaller lights that I love, & more powerfull & expensive lights, but dollar for dollar this is the best one I've found yet. I can stand it on it's end cap & illuminate an entire room. It has a concentrated beam with a long throw. This light can also be used to temporarily blind an attacker, and it even could be used as a club.I haven't needed to charge it again yet, but the instructions state that subsequent charges will only require 4 hours. It also includes a DC charger to use in the car. 5Not having to change batteries periodically is great. Previously she was using one of my incandescent ... I bought this flashlight about 16 months ago for my wife. I did quite a bit of compairsome shopping. She uses it on a regular basis. Not having to change batteries periodically is great. Previously she was using one of my incandescent Dewalt rechargeable but she couldn't remove the battery by herself for recharging, plus that one did not hold a charge as well as the Dorcy. It is reliable, bright enough, holds a charge well and seems quite durable with it's metal case. I have several other LED flashlights including a 500 lumen rechargeable one that cost $50 at Wal-Mart and some battery styles. The Dorcy seems the best of the bunch. What's not to like? 5Not as good. Had one of the older models of this light worked great, but damaged it so it wasn't usable. ordered replacement for it and anything you bump it the mode will change or shut off. Dorcy has replaced two of them but they all have the same issue. 1Many claim to be brighter, don't listen to them This flashlight only claims to be 220 lumens. I cannot believe that! I recently bought a 500 lumen flashlight off of here, and I this Dorcy is so much brighter, and has a far superior distance reach.I first used this model as a security guard. I appreciated then how bright and nice it was. My thought was if that is how 220 lumens are, then a 500 lumens flashlight ought to REALLY kick it. Total disappointmentDon't waste your money on cheaper flashlights that make unreal claims. If you want a flashlight honestly rated, then this is the one you want. This flashlight will impress you with its brightness, and its reach. Just be careful you don't upset your neighbors 4 or 5 blocks away when you shine it on their house. It's that bright!. 5Decently bright, poor battery design I'll start by saying that I returned the light - it was missing the front lens. Apart from that, I was not that impressed. My Trustfire Cree Xm-l T6 5-modes 3800lm Led Flashlight Electric Torch is at least 4x brighter and better made.This light IS bright, brighter than any of my old Maglights. But it's not as bright as some of my CREE 5 lights. For the price, you're better off purchasing a couple $15 CREE 5 lights. It's nice that dual chargers are included, but the NiCads will get a memory set, and usually die within a year or so. Non-standard size, so you'll pay around $30 for replacement batteries - if you can find them.The light pattern is concentric circles - bright inner spot, medium outer flood, with bright light rings. Pretty annoying actually. Overall it's a decent light, but the negatives kill it for me:1) battery design2) Plastic lens, not glass (found this out from research)3) Light pattern 4junk I ordered my first Dorcy 41-4299 and it came with a regular plug AC-DC charger. It worked and still is working great. I ordered another, same model no. but it came with a USB charger cable. This is the one I am reviewing and it is junk.It never did work right. it would go on and off as if the contacts were not contacting. I removed the rear of the flashlight and found parts were installed incorrectly. Fixing this helped some but it was still very unreliable. Then the rubber on off button fell off. It will not work without it. I tried various methods to keep it in the whole where it belongs but all to no avail. What a piece of crap. Useless now and I'm out $32. What ever Dorcy did to this new model was a mistake. 1Newer doesn't necessarily mean better. I have two of the older model lights with the 110 and 12 volt plugs. They are well made, dependable lights. I ordered the newer light to put in the car. When it works, it is fine. It has three settings: high, low and flashing. Only problem is it doesn't hold a charge. I fully charged the light five days ago and today it is dead. Don't know if it's a bad battery, a bad switch or just what, but it is not something I can depend on. 2
