Excellent radio, So-so mp3 (voice) player. Well worth the cost. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. This is a strong, good little radio. And the battery lasts a good long time. I'm a little disappointed that the mp3 audio is less strong than the radio--I like to listen to downloads like BBC Book Club, and debates on Intelligence Squared, and he audio is fine if I sit quietly listening, or use earphones, but I want it to project from the radio in my pocket while I'm gardening or walking my dog--the radio does,but downloads don't. Still, for the price, it's a good strong machine! Only three negatives are (1) that it is easy to touch the dial by mistake and move off from a chosen radio station, and (2) that if you're listening to something you've put on the micro card, there's not a way (that I've found, anyhow) to navigate to the one piece you want; you have to start each till you know it isn't what you want, and then move to the next, etc., till you find what you want, and finally (3) if you are charging it you can't turn it on and off--it stays in whichever position it was when you plugged it in. And if it's off and charging, and you unplug it, and try to turn it on, it first goes to off, so you have to push the button again to turn it on. These are small things you can figure out and work around, so while it isn't perfect, it's quite satisfactory to me!I JUST DECIDED TO RAISE MY RATING FROM 4 STARS TO 5 because of the customer service of this company. The on-off switch on my radio malfunctioned, and I wrote to tell the seller about it, acknowledging it was past the warranty period. They immediately replied saying they were shipping me a new battery, to which I replied that really, it wasn't the battery, I knew it was the switch because it had fallen inside the radio. They replied by sending me an RMA and their address, to which I sent the radio for repairs--and it has come back as good as new! This kind of customer service is above and beyond, and makes me sure that when I need something else in this line, they are the people I will turn to first. 5Pure Junk Arrived as expected. Battery was dead and would not accept a charge, but player would turn on when plugged into an usb outlet. Could not receive any stations no matter what the mode it was in. Threw it away and took my lost. Would never buy this again. 1Great battery life. So far so good. The buttons are confusing - need manual to look things up as they have multiple functions. But for the basic listening to baseball and music on FM, easy enough. Impressed with battery power. So far getting 4-6 hours easily on a charge.Updating my original review above. You can probably double that estimate of time on a charge. Have been using now for about 8 hours and have 2/3 bars on the battery.I am adding a follow up. Since this review, I have probably used this radio for 8-10 hours working in the in yard and listening. And the battery meter still shows 2/3 of the battery left. So I would easily guess that the thing will last for 20 hours? Will let you know. But still impressed with the battery life.Another update. Used another 2-3 hours and it finally started blinking wanting a recharge. So feel comfortable with a 10 hour projection on charge. Might last more. 4Great little radio! I was surprised by how much I like this little radio. It has great sound and picks up all the local stations with no drifting. It's nice to have a radio with an old-style analog tuner. You can just zip to the frequency you need. I've compared it to some of my other SW radios and it picks up all the stations a more expensive radio gets. 5Just what we were looking for AND MORE! Over the years my husband would speak fondly of the old pocket transistor radios which everyone had as a kid. I got this for his birthday last summer and he praises it's size, clarity and function. He likes the new mp3 feature, the quality speaker, but mostly he loves the shortwave! He enjoyed exploring its capabilities on his own -- probably a guy thing. It seems to suit him perfectly. So glad I purchased it. 5and I absolutely love it! As an AM/FM radio I got one of these for my birthday, and I absolutely love it! As an AM/FM radio, it is simply that: an AM/FM radio. As a portable MP3player, it's the best I've ever had. For years, I've tried to find an MP3 player that I could listen to without using earbuds or attachingan external speaker. Here it is. It's fairly simple to locate files, as you can advance/rewind 1 at a time or 10 at a time quickly. Therechargeable battery lasts a long time, longer than most MP3s. I use it to download and listen to old radio shows,and a single microSD will hold over 1000 shows. All things considered, it's a great little gadget. 5Has a card slot!!! Rare small am fm radio with decent sound THAT HAS A SLOT FOR A SMALL MEMORY CARD to play mp3s. Love this feature. The vast majority of am fm radios do not have a card slot. 5Best portable radio in my opinion Great all around portable radio. I use it all the time since it has everything you'd want. Shortwave, AM, FM (the radio reception is great; I sit beside a computer and get no interference). It also has an MP3 player and SD micro slot for thousands of your songs when your tired of listening to the radio. The best part is it has a headphone jack for private listening and internal speaker when your ears are numb from the ear buds. Its rechargeable and holds a charge a lot longer than I expected. Finally I found the Degen to be rugged,. I don't recommend this, but I clumsily dropped it a couple of times already and nothing broke and it works like a charm. (maybe I been lucky) but I am impressed with the quality.and features for the price.. 5A Great Pocket mp3 player with a Superb Built In Speaker At last, a good speaker sound for my SDHC MP3 collections. It does have port for earphones but I only use its speaker. The controls were hard to fathom --- I almost gave up --- but after a teeth clinched, determined 30 minutes got the hang of it. A bit unfriendly, way too simple screen readings, not detailed enough for full information control. But I got it to work and am happy I did. Right now it's just great!My ENT ear doctor said no more ear buds or headphones. Save your what's left of your ears. So, gave up all my ear buds on mp3 players. First I used players with clumsy blue tooth or wired portable speakers, an awkward pain. I webbed for a pocket mp3 player with a speaker that works without need for earphones. Near impossible until I found Degen's great, great speaker. It's splendid for my downloaded to SDHCs my MP3 books, lectures, BBC shows, Bowery Boys History, CSPAN, NPR, MP3s, WNYC, other MP3 Downloads. Super clear sound, with a powerful speaker volume more than I need. Problem solved. I am very happy.Its radio reception is good here in New York City. I don't even need to extend the built in antenna. Good sound too. But I have yet to figure out how to change from European to USA frequency numbers.I am delighted to at last have a pocket mp3 player with a great speaker. I can play all my MP3 voice downloads and improve my life, pocket carry it everywhere. Thank you Degen for being smart enough to solve my problems. 4Impressive I use this for a shower radio...not directly in the shower but hanging from the shower curtain. I use it for work deep inside a brick and mortar facility where I am able to only use it for MP3's. This little thing ROCKS! It's LOUD! I have 300+ songs on a 64GB micro SD card and it recharges through the micro SD Port. It does not have shuffle.I just add music by the song name...enough shuffle for me. The controls are daunting for AM radio, fine for FM and SW is good if you know what you want. I only use it as an MP3 player mostly. The sound quality is EXCELLENT! I've been asked if its a BOSE system. THE BASE THUMPS, really, It actually thumps base! ...for 30 bucks, I haven't found a better sound in such a small package! A+ 5
