    Can't close the ventThe underside is plastic, which I expected. But there are no flaps or any way to close the vent, which I don't like.4Nice for the price Love the look of these and the price but I'm a little concerned that the plastic vents will become a problem after a full winter of heat blowing through them. They are plastic inside the metal cover, but I'm not picky about it, It's worth the price, which is at least 1/3 of the heavier duty registers. It's strong enough to withstand walking on, but I wouldn't put it in a heavy traffic area, or where chairs are run over it or set on it (like around a dining table), but anywhere else is good. They look real nice too, they add more character than the basic units at the hardware store, plus I'm using them in a 111 yr old house, so they fit it perfectly.5Attractive heat duct covers. These are beautiful floor heat covers. Liked it so much we bought another for the office and living room.5Perfect for an upgradeThis scroll pattern floor register is a nice, simple upgrade to the wooden one that it replaced.The exposed ( top) part is metal; the damper is plastic.I know some don't like plastic on their dampers but, having a home built in 1940, I can appreciate something that won't rust up and lose it's fluid movement.To those that couldn't figure out how to adjust their damper...you push or pull a black plastic lever within the end scroll pattern lengthwise.I have my register in an area with no furniture so no worries about it getting scratched and it is sturdy to walk on without fear.Great budget purchase that looks lovely 5Sturdy registerGreat register. I have had my eye on these for quite awhile and they are definitely worth the wait! I can actually open and close the vents without having to pull them out of the floor-woo hoo!!!! They come in sizes that are almost impossible to find in my local home improvement stores and most come in four colors. I ordered the bronze which are a bit darker than the picture, but are absolutely stunning and set off my wood floors nicely.
