Perfect This is my third Coast flashlight. I've been going to this brand because they have outstanding customer service. Their products are well made and perform well. I ordered this light to use at work but found it to be a little bit larger than I wanted to carry around. It is however, a great light and now resides in my night stand. Love the focusing feature. And I really like the on/off switch. I just wanted a light. Don't need a strobe or SOS or anything else, just a light. I don't like scrolling through a "menu" to get the light output I want. It's simple, high, low, off. Perfect. I had a problem with a hard hat light I got from them a couple of months ago. Lost one of the clips for the headband. Emailed customer service and they sent me replacements at no charge within a couple of days. Very impressive. I'm buying more of their products. Just another thing to note, Amazon has by far the best prices on their products. I've shopped around a lot and can't find a better deal. 5Better quality than The Usual Suspects...for a better price. I bought three of these based on my experience with two similar-model Coast branded flashlights I picked up a year earlier at Home Depot. These are extremely well made, extremely durable, and waterproof/shockproof just like they're advertised. The optics in them is top notch and it projects a bright flood or a really tight super bright beam, and everything in between. One of the great design features is the recessed lens: you can toss one of these in a tool box with no fear of the lens getting scratched or damaged like many others do, because the others have the lens right there at the face of the light. I'm a satisfied customer. My only gripe is they should offer these with a simple on/off function; the three brightness levels is a goofy thing. Click on, click off--that's all I need. I'm just glad they didn't include the idiotic flashy disco strobe like many makers do. That is a useless feature in a flashlight, unless you're a mall ninja who needs it to dazzle bad guys in the dark while you're on a secret mission. 5People with lights 4 times this price complement me on this one This light is awesome. Takes 4 standard AA batteries. Not some random size you've never heard of. I work around planes at FedEx Express Indianapolis and have to do a plane walk-around inspection right after the plane comes in. This light can light up the whole side of any of the planes we have. It's seriously impressive. I use the thing for about a half hour a night and have been using it for 2 weeks so about 4 hours total on its high setting. Side note, I didn't even realize it had more than one setting as it always turns on in the last setting it was in. Awesome feature as most cheap lights don't do this. Anyway, battery life is awesome and it's not that big. Definitely not the size of a 2 D cell maglite as someone else stated. Maybe a single D cell if they made those. It's got this extremely durable plastic on the outside that protects it greatly. Dropped it off a loader at work that was about 20 feet up and it didn't scratch it. Incredible. I can't say enough good things. The focus on it works great too and it's definitely waterproof. I love this thing. Highly recommended 5Awesome Light This is an awesome light. Handsomely packaged. Very well-made and durable. It doesn't have a strobe feature like so many others but that doesn't bother me. The focusing ring/function is nice but I wish it would focus to a finer point than it's currently limited. With a light that has such a high output and long beam as this one does, you'd think they'd have designed the focus mechanism to get down to a much smaller beam. Oh well, this light still performs better than I was hoping for. 5Packaging bad, looks like it was already used. Size of a D batteries Number one the packaging was let's say there was none. That is no fault of coast lights. That would be you Amazon. I opened up the box the flashlight came in. The batteries were Loosely thrown around the packaging look like it was already used. The flashlight is all plastic. Maybe they did this to reduce the weight. When you install the batteries and put it into the flashlight it's almost like you're carrying too Heavy D batteries in a wide flashlight. Reminds me of the old metal Mini Mags but it's not many. Another issue was from the description it looks like it'll fit in my pocket. This will not fit in your pocket. This is like carrying one those police mags lights but only two D batteries. It is very wide. Try to adjust the light for narrow beam and wider beam. Very difficult. Maybe cuz it's new. Sorry to say I'm sending this one back. I love Coast light. I love their warranties. I ordered a small green pin light. With this light. It's amazing. I will be ordering another one of those. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to make anything bad about Coast. You just have to find the right size and use flashlight that Coast has. They are amazing with the warranties and the flashlights last forever. I just need flashlight so I can put in my pocket and go. I do a lot of vehicle cars work. House inspection work. And these lights are Lifesavers. Thank you Coast. 2Extreme Down-Regulating In First 7 Minutes Coast claims that "Runtime (High) 2 H, 15MIN". I actually got 3.9 hours (per ANSI FL-1). It's unknown what type of batteries Coast was using for their runtime test. I used Panasonic Eneloops. The higher runtime I measured is the good news. NOW for the BAD.I made a runtime graph using a lightmeter (with a data logger). The graph shows the extreme down-regulating. As you can see from the graph below, the output drops to about 22% of initial output within 6 minutes. WOW. And 22% of 700 lumens is only 154 lumens, which is its more stable (continual) output. Coast should be honest, 700 lumens is little more than a VERY temporary turbo mode, lasting seconds only.Note1: Per Coast's website, they are using the ANSI/FL-1 spec, which states:"Runtime is defined as the amount of time until output drops below 10%."Note2: My light meter does not measure "lumens", that takes a special sphere that few people can afford. Rather, 100% output on the graph was the reflected reading (in a small dark room) after 30 seconds from initial turn-on (per ANSI/FL1).Note3: the light never got hot - only slightly warm around the top of the light.Note4: Batteries used were new Pansonic Eneloop BK-3MCCA4BA (2,000mah)CONCLUSION - I suspect the plastic over steel does not allow much heat to dissipate, which explains the extreme down-regulating. If there's anything good to say about the extreme down-regulating; the run-time is longer. 3Awesome light One of the best lights i have ever owned. Extremely bright and the beam has a great throwing distance. Easily lights up 150-200 feet away on spot light. Love that it takes double a batteries I use rechargeable ones but if camping you can buy regular ones to take as backups. Its about the size of the old flashlights that takes 2 d cell batteries. It is very well made not a light flimsy one. I will buy a second one just to keep as a spare. Will also make great gifts. 5I love this light! I own too many Coast lights to count... or 9, and this is the one to beat them all. Don't get me wrong they are all super bright and have good run times and functionality... but this one is in a league of it's own. Don't let the fact that it's made of plastic sway you. This light is just as tough and durable as any of Coast's other lights, if not even more so than others. It has become my new go-to light. The flood beam will light up an entire camp site and the spot beam will go further than I could ever really need it to. And the three modes are great too. High is almost too bright for indoor use and low gives useable light with an astonishing run time. Cycling through them is easy with the momentary on feature using a half press of the button and easy to lock in with a full press of the button. Focusing is also super quick. About one half of a turn is all that it takes to go from full flood to bullseye spot. What else can I say? I love this light! Try using some nice disposable lithium batteries for even higher performance. I did and there is a noticeable difference over the cheap batteries that came with it. 5Misleading description! I have more than 10 great flashlights and they all have to capacity to use lithium batteries which are far superior to the nickel metal hydride batteries (NiMh) and the cadmium batteries. I thought the Coast, with its great reputation would be able to run the lithium ones. The advertisement of the Coast 600 with 710 Lumens is misleading due to the fact that after only a few minutes decreases that supposed 710 Lumens well below and on top of that the light doesn't work anymore. I havnt used the Coast light very much so when your in the dark fresh batteries and suddenly it stops working, well it tends to really make you lose all faith in the Coast brand. I'm extremely wanting a refund. 3I like that it has very simple toggle choices Very bright light. I like that it has very simple toggle choices: brightest, bright, low light. I don't need strobe, flashing or whatever that I would otherwise need to cycle through. I also like that this Coast uses standard AAA batteries that will stay charged when the flashlight sits in my vehicle's glove box for an emergency use. Rechargeable batteries will slowly discharge when sitting for long periods of time. I also find that the Coast's wide-to-narrow beam adjustment is super easy to use. 5
