    Very bright and useful lamp. Wasn't sure I would keep it based on the price before I actually tried it, but I've left it in my truck for a couple of weeks and have already used it for so many situations. The ability to go from spot to flood has been awesome. I've used it to do anything from working on my truck at night, dropping and easily finding nuts and bolts, chasing down the dog at night, getting to the right spot before sunrise on hunts. I can't imagine what I'd do without it at this point.The one annoyance is you need to click the white light through the 3 settings in order to turn it off vs. other models I have had with pressure switches allowing a soft touch to cycle settings and hard press to turn on/ off to the last setting it was on. I have to put my hand in front of it to ensure it is actually off and not in the lowest setting. It is nice to have a battery saver option if ultra bright isn't needed I suppose. At least it doesn't have the useless and annoying strobe setting. The red light only has one setting, on or off which I like, but the red brightness is fairly useless compared to cheaper models I have.Still all around I'm very happy and feel it was worth the extra spend. 5Runtime is HIGHLY deceptive. Read on... The high light output lasts only 15-20 minutes. Then dim for 2 more hours.With lithium batteries, the headlamp is reasonably close to advertised on brightness for only about 15-20 minutes. Then the lumens rapidly drop to about 25% of the initial reading and, over the next hour, dwindles down to a very dim glow. By 2 hours total, the light is well below 10% of the original output. Apparently, they calculate runtime on high as long as there is any perceptible light emanating from the LED. That said, it would be good for short term use only. 2Both died in a short period of time Very bright, with several light settings. Batteries easily replaced (unlike others I have owned). Goes thru 3 AAA batteries in an hour or so. For me, a rechargeable option would be perfect, but out in the woods, well, carry plenty of AAA;s Adjusts nicely to aim light. The 'down' side, for me, was, it failed after 6 weeks. Yes, replacement was free, but, as always that's a hassle you don't need...and if it fails after two months, you're out the $50. Addendum: the replacement also failed, this time after three months. 1Great light. Extremely bright on high Great light. Extremely bright on high...for a short while. You'll go through batteries pretty quick on high. But it is so bright that I don't need to use the highest setting very much, low is more than enough light in most situations I work in the railroad industry so having something lighter weight and very bright was top priority. This light fits the bill well in those departments. Seems to be of good build quality. have had it out in the rain a few times now and she's still working great. Focusing feature and red lights are also nice. Definitely worth the $ 4Doesn't work with rechargeable batteries The Coast FL85 is nice an bright. I'm a woodworker and need a bright light to properly see the detail in my work. This light is great because it's so bright. However, it will only work with alkaline batteries. The light will last approximately 2 hours on high setting. I simply can't afford to use the light much. I've tried 2 different brands of NiMH rechargeable batteries and neither work. I have the FL70 and rechargeable batteries work fine.So, even though I like the illumination I have to use other lights that are not as bright because I simply can't afford 2 or 3 sets of alkalines per day. Thus my rating of 3. 3A great headlamp I never thought I would buy--let alone--praise any Coast product. This is my second Coast headlamp. The first one I bought did not have a zoom setting. and the led's weren't as bright---but still it was very bright. The battery life was longer. This head lamp is brighter..it has three settings and night vision,, plus it goes from wide angle to zoom. On the third setting, it begins to lose it's brightness after about 10 hours...it's still plenty bright to walk a trail at night.. but you can notice the difference...I use mine every night for about 30 minutes.. I change the 3 AAA bateries every two months.Coast is a very good product 5BRIGHT!!!! Must have unit. Wow, this headlamp is bright! If you re on the fence between the 405 lumen or 615 lumen, definitely spend the extra money for the 615 lumen. My dad purchased the 405 lumen, and it s ok. It will get the job done, but when I recieved the 615 yesterday, boy was I surprised at how well it could light up a room. This is a must have unit for working in the dark or sub-par lighting. It s definitely a little bulkier than the other unit, but it is so worth it for the lighting differential.In reading the reviews, I m a little skeptical of the quality. As mentioned above, I ve owned this product for one day, so time will tell as far as quality. I will update this review if the unit stops working. 5Bright light I like how bright this is when you first put the batteries in, but it seems to use power faster than expected. At least you get a gradual dimming instead of the abrupt loss of power with a rechargeable. The only problem I have is the off and on switch. I have trouble hitting the button. It is not a defined button, it takes a while to get the feel for it. Other than that, it serves my purpose. 4This is THE ONE, seriously. This is THE headlamp to get, I ordered it along with the Black Diamond Strom for comparison, but the Coast is by far the better of the two!!Ps, get the dual color!Why I think its the best:-The brightness is INSANE! Seriously, like a spotlight. Having a light this bright at your disposal is actually a bonus safety feature...were there to be something scary out there they literally wouldnt be able to approach you with this light in their eyes.-The adjustable beam can go from a nice diffused spread of light for close up, to a long distance beam with a quick and intuitive twist, it's super easy to use. And with a twist even the Low setting can send out an impressively far reaching long distance beam, which is nice when you're doing something around camp in low light mode and hear a noise...you don't have to cycle through anything to immediately see something far away...just twist and go.-The lowest setting of white light is perfect, not too dim or bright-Not only does it come with RED LIGHT, but the buttons for red and white are independent, one side is for red light and the other is for white...seems like a small thing but its super important not to have to cycle through white light to get to red if you're trying to preserve your night vision.What could improve:-There really isn't anything functional that needs improvement here, only the style seems to be a bit less "modern" than the competition...but that's the competition's gimmick, thankfully I bought the Coast FL85 anyway!! 5High quality bright beam I'm very pleased with the brightness and beam spread from this lamp. I have two other headlamps, one is a mid-price Petzl I purchased many years ago. By comparison, this one is heavier, but much, much brighter. My other old headlamp was a higher-end (but not super-high-end) lamp that I purchased because it was much brighter than my first. (It's about the same weight). But I never liked the light spread on that one: Other than through the center of the beam, it always felt like I was looking through fog, and neither opening nor closing the diffuser seemed to help. This coast lamp has a nice bright beam. The red beam is also quite useful for mid-night trips to the rest room or other times you don't want to wreck your night vision. 5
