Customer Reviews

My favorite stone. Chosera is in a class of its own. I cannot say enough good things about this stone. It took a lot fo rme to pull the trigger on buying this stone but I have to say it was really worth it. I read from so many people online that go through so many high grit stones past this and quite frankly I'm not sure why. The reason why I say this is because for me and my uses, This will probably be the highest grit stone I go to because the edges I get after using this stone and stropping are perfect for me. I just go from a 1k stone to this then use Bark river compounds black/green to white and the edge comes out shiny and sharp as hell. I've heard that chosera stone grits actually run higher than advertised so expect this to be a fast 4k+/-. I can't recommend this stone enough. If you like keeping your kitchen knives, pocket knives, fixed blade etc sharp, this stone is perfect to either stop at or bridge to a higher grit. 5(revised: the seller fixed the problem immediately, incredible service) seems to have quality issues I am editing this rating back to 5 Stars. the seller contacted me promptly and fixed my problem. incredible service. definitely will order again.-----I'm just attaching a picture to the review. Used it maybe 4 times then I noticed a crack after the first layer of the stone started to come off. The crack is large enough and noticeable enough to interfere with sharpening my knives. I treat my stones with utmost care, so i do not believe it's my fault and the crack seems to go exactly halfway down and seems to have the beginning of other thin cracks. I do not know if it was damaged during shipping or if its a QA issue, but since i purchased it on 7/29/2018 and did not use it till recently, I'm probably going to be stuck with this unusable stone. Otherwise I would have put in 5 stars 5Remove the base and it s perfect Stone arrived today. I thought the base was something the stone just sat on, not glued to it so first thing I did was figure out how to get that thing off. Did some quick googling and found that heat was he trick to getting the cheap plastic thing off. The epoxy is pretty strong so don t try to pry it off, you ll crack the stone. Suggestions ranged from oven to hot water to heat gun. I used the heat gun method and took about 3 minutes to get it off there. Start on one end and work your way down gently bending the plastic back as it becomes pliable. As far as sharpening this thing is great. Splash some water on it and you re good to go. I use a better base in a tub on my table. 5You get what you paid for This stone is a bit pricey for a sharpening stone, but you get what you paid for. I read a lot of reviews around the web with other stones claiming fast cutting, slow dishing, and great feedback, but I myself owns some of those stones and disagreed (not all but with most). This stone is truly true of those three claims though. Clogging/loading is not an issue and it polishes pretty well too. If you've done your work properly on the lower grits, I used 400 grit to re-bevel the edge and 1000 for sharpening, and then moved on to this stone, you can almost whittle hairs after a good stropping. It will whittle a few pieces here and there, but not at will and not both ways like finishing on a 8000+ grit stones. This is one of my favorites stone from my collection of 14 stones from cheap $5 through $360 Shapton 30,000 grit glass stone. 5Excellent stone for keeping my knives razor sharp I picked up this stone, as well as the Chosera 800 grit, for keeping my knives sharp and to help restore some old hand plane irons. This stone is fantastic, it's easy to tell that it's high quality and will last a long time as long as I treat it properly. I use this stone on my regular kitchen knives just to help restore that razor edge (along with stropping), and only drop to the 800 if there is more damage to the edge. 5Perfection between 1k and 5k! I can't hardly believe I waited so long to pick up this stone. Performs very well . This 3K stone was just the ticket for me. I can pull an edge back into shape much faster than relying just on a 5k.Not really a splash and go stone but pretty darn close to it. I always get better performance from the chosera's with a quick soak. Just a great stone all the way around.Arrived fast and well packaged. I'd rather not have stones on the base but the lower price made up for that! 5Middle of the Line These are Middle of the Line bench stones but perform exceeding well in practice. I bought the set of three and except for my Spyderco Stones and my Shapton Glass Stones this set is actually all the hobbyist would need! They are easy to use (no soaking for minutes in the beginning) but splash a little water on them and you're good to go. I am quite happy to have them in my collection of bench stones.(I am going to write the same review for all three grits of this stone, and heartily suggest purchasing all three which will give you the full range that you need - I've rated each of the three the same). 4Amazing stone but it cracked This stone is awesome! My only thing that gets me is there are cracks only after a few uses cracks developed. Idk what happened as I take good care of them and I Do not soak my splash go stones! I am talking to the supplier to see if they will help me out! This stone is amazing for you can almost do work that is meant for 1000 grit stone! The feedback is great, the cut speed is amazing for 3000 grit. It wears very slow! This paired with my Chosera 800 and a green compound leather stop will result in ultra sharp blades. In conclusion this is one of the best stones in the Chosera lineup and if it wasn t for the crack I would give 5 starts! Hopefully the seller will contact me about a replacement because this is upsetting when you spend 106$(at the time) for a stone and it cracks. Like I stated above I take very good care of my tools! 4Chosera: best water stones you can buy The Chosera line of stones are my favorite. I sharpen knives as a side job and these are my go to stones with expensive kitchen knives or knives with super steels or expensive knives in general that I wish to give the best treatment. The stones are splash and go, DO NOT SOAK, and are extremely hard and slow wearing while cutting metal very quickly. Smoothest tactile feel of any water stone I've ever used. Just an absolute joy to use. The 3000 grit is probably closer to most stones' 5000, it polishes far above the stated grit, like every other stone in this line. In a progression, I usually use this after a Chosera 1000, and before a Naniwa Snow White 8000, then stropping. This is the older version that is 25mm thick and comes with an attached base and nagura (which I never use but, I know some people like them). The newer stones are branded "Naniwa Professional" they are 5mm thinner and come without the base for the same price but are supposedly harder and slower wearing but I have not noticed any performance differences between the two versions so, definitely go with the older Chosera version as long as they're available. 5Choseras are the best I wrote in another review that the Chosera stones are in the running for the best stones ever made. I've sharpened a lot of knives, straight razors, and even a sword on this thing. Cuts evenly and quickly, and gives a soft buttery feedback. One thing though - I noticed last night when I was sharpening a few chef knives for a client, that my stone had cracked in three spots. I know it's not me - I care for my stones like I care for my children, so not sure what happened here. I live in a dry climate so that may be it. So far realistically I haven't seen any issues with the edges on the four or five knives I sharpened on this last night, but it is annoying that the thing cracked. Time will tell whether or not this stone will be usable. I think it'll be fine, but it pisses me off it cracked. 5
