Customer Reviews

Small as a finger. Not the best choice. They look huge in the picture. But they are as small as a finger making work difficult. If you are using these for a green screen. Wrap the fabric around the pole and then put the clamp over the fabric pressing against the pole and hope it doesn't slide when it gets touched or bumped or you will have to adjust it again or go find the clamp that went flying. This is not a problem if your clamps are much bigger as the pole would sit in the middle gap of the clamp while only the tips of the clamp will engage the fabric alone making a nice and secure hold. I recommend if you can find 6"or 7" clamps to get those.I only had 2 such large clamps which came with the rest of my kit and those worked great, had to use them on the bottom as the little ones didn't work there. Pole was too thick. 4The spring pressure is good but the little orange tabs on the ends pop ... The spring pressure is good but the little orange tabs on the ends pop off very easily and get lost. The inner diameter of the clamp is only about 5/8" maximum. I agree the metal clamps available at the big box stores might be a better value in the long run. 2Just used these for the first time, hung a ... Just used these for the first time, hung a backdrop last night using all six clamps. This morning I found one broken on the floor and later in the day another one popped off and I found broken on the floor. I'm hoping the other four don't do the same! 1Smaller than I thought, but held well I purchased these to support a muslin black backdrop for a photo booth. These held the weight of the backdrop well with just 4 used. 5Great for sweeps Generally I'll use binder clips to position and weight poster board down when I use it as a sweep but lately I've been using a velvet type material (velveteen it's called) and the binder clips don't have enough reach or depth to get around the supports so I bought these. They work very well for light weight applications. I have the larger cheaplights also, 4 1/2", that I use to keep muslin backdrops taut and they work very well that way. I did write a different review on them. Some reviewers are using the 3 3/4" to hold 10' x 20' backdrops and wonder why they fail. They're insane for doing that. First, let's look at the name of this product, Cheaplights, which easily equates to light duty. Duh! To hold large backdrops get some Pony clamps. I have a half dozen each of 1", 2" and 3" Pony clamps. They are far more expensive but they are heavy duty. Basically, use the correct tool for the job. 4CHEAP is right! See those little orange "pads" in the picture? They pop off & get lost VERY easily. I thought $1.25/clamp was a good deal.. it's not.Do yourself a favor... visit Home Depot...If you want "cheap" but better quality get:either the HDX 3/4 in. Mini Spring Clamp (Model # 80001 Store SKU # 614593)or the HDX 2 in. Spring Clamp (Model # 80002 Store SKU # 573682).If you're willing to spend a little bit more, then get these: Husky 2 in. Metal Spring Clamp with Pivot Tips (Model # 012387 Store SKU # 1000021752) 1Small but mighty These clamps were slightly smaller than I thought they would be, but I am a hobbyist photography, so I didn't really know what to expect. The clamps fit snugly around the circumference of a standard light stand with just enough room to fit some fabric. Obviously this is why they are that size - I just didn't know. They are plastic, but very strong and the clamping power is quite good. The only annoyance is the little red pads on the end, swivel all the way around so if you are trying to attach something up high with one hand, sometimes they flip backwards and don't grab correctly. You just need to make sure they are facing inwards before you reach up high. I used all 6 clamps to attach a large king size sheet to a linco backdrop stand and it was enough - Very solid.I debated just getting some generic clamps at home depot, but I am glad I got these because I think they probably do a better job clamping fabric to the size of the light stand bars. 4Smaller that I thought, but work perfectly for my purposes In purchased this set to hang a banner from a Background Stand Backdrop Support System Kit 8ft by 10ft wide By Fancier Studio TB30. These work, but the tips are separated a full inch with I am clamping the banner to the cross member bar on the backdrop support system. I worked around that by rolling about two inches of the top part of the banner, and these clamps hold it perfectly in place. The actual clamps are about 3.75 inches end-to-end, and will open a full 2.5 inches. If you want the actual tips to be the clamping surface you will need a cross member 3/8 of an inch of less. For anything larger, you can do as I and roll a portion of the top of a banner or backdrop over the cross member bar and these will work well. For my purposes these are relatively sturdy, and the tips are actually self-adjusting, which is a nice feature. Moreover, the tips are made of a softer material than the clamp, so they are less likely to mar a surface while the textured faces provide a positive grip. 5Short term use? The clamps worked great the first few uses. Then the orange support pieces began to pop off. The clamps are still able to be used you ll just have missing pieces all over your studio after a few uses. And possible backdrop damage if you continue to use them defective. Maybe super glue them, I don t know. 32 of my clamps have already broken I haven't had the long and only used the to affix a photo backdrop to a stand and unfortunately 2 clips are already unusable. The other 4 are fine but 2of 6 clamps breaking under the strain of a lightweight plastic backdrop is unacceptable. 2
