    I'm very happy with these pliers These are slightly longer than most welpers, and the ends are slightly dished in to keep a "sharp" (not anywhere close to cutting you) ends to clean spatter out of nozzles. The tip holers are a v-cut instead of most other brands u-cuts. I think the vee's helps grip contact tips tighter, especially after copper gets packed into the serrations. I'm very happy with these pliers, and absolutely would but them again. 5Best Set of Welpers I've Used - Made in the USA After years of using randomly branded Welpers and after falling in love with the quality of Channellock pliers, I decided to give these a shot. They are the same setup as any set of welding pliers, but the quality is outstanding compared to all the cheap junk out there. The cutters are sharp and properly measured (no gap or bumping into and dulling each other), and the grips are the standard Channellock blue (which I love). All around the best set I've used, and are Made in the USA. 5"Pocket Sized?" The tool looks to be well made like all of the Channel Lock tools I have purchased over the years. My issue is with the phrase "Compact, bunker-pocket sized" in the description. It isn't. It won't fit into any of my bunker gear pockets so I don't carry it. It's "Toolbox sized."My main reason for buying the cutters is mainly for the car wrecks and forcible entry but also self rescue from entanglement in wires. The $46 sheath isn't the answer since it wouldn't be accessible.My $.02 worth. 3OOPS! Made is USA written right on the pliers, yeah so maybe that is not a guarantee of quality anymore. This is the result after two weeks of welding school, separated at the joint. Amazon no questions asked refunded the full purchase price. Probably just a glitch, Channel Lock is usually awesome and lasts forever, just not this time. 1Not good Volunteer Firefighter. I bought this because it looked cool and was a multitool. Unfortunately it has a few major flaws.1. The locking mechanism is horrible. It opens in your pocket all the time. No positive retention. The "lock" when engaged doesn't close the jaws enough. Wide gap.2. The spring is too short. It doesn't open the tool all the way. Only half way.3. The spring falls out if you open the tool all the way.The tool boasts a "one handed" operation. It takes two hands to get it out of my bunker pants because it always opens accidentally while stowed. It takes two hands to open the jaws all the way because the spring is too short. If you open it all the way the spring falls out.This product did not get tested as an emergency tool. It sucks. Horrible execution of a tool.To their credit the tool does cut well. It's strong. The multi functions work but the locking flaw and horrible spring seriously detract from its real world emergency use. 1These seem like factory rejects or knockoffs? AVOID THIS SELLER! I've owned many ChannelLock tools in the past, but the quality of this one really let's me down. There were VERY obvious burs that were folded over onto the jaws, and were large enough to make the jaws not close all the way. The cutters were disapointingly bad, and the action was overly tight, to where they would not open by themselves, even with the spring firmly in place.I'm not sure if this selling is selling knockoff, or factory rejects, because it is shockingly bad quality compared to my other Channelock tools! 1Best Welding Pliers I've used Miller's version of these, and can't stand them. These, however, rock. The spring doesn't quit. The nose is easier to clean out the nozzle cone, and then clean this off, than the ones that have cross-hatching (the Channellock design is a simpler concave scraping edge, which doesn't permanently trap the slag). These are tough, smooth, and don't flex, shift, or mess around, I get a good grip the first time, every time, and don't slip on anything unless my gloves prevent me getting a good purchase in the first place. These go with me any time I have to grab my helmet. 5Well purposed but some design flaws. The features of this tool are GREAT. But there a few design flaws that need to be corrected.The Spring-loaded feature was very attractive - especially when using with a gloved hand. HOWEVER the spring isn't strong enough to fully return the handle to your hands. I removed the stock spring and purchased a more heavy duty and slightly longer spring. Works well for now - just hoping that modification holds up over time.There is also a thumb lock so that when the tool is stored, it will remain CLOSED. This makes the tool smaller for storage, protects the blades, and also prevents it from getting hung up on objects in the pocket. The thumb lock STINKS!The lock itself is too small for the joint so when "locked" it is only holding the tool HALF-closed. To make it worse, the thumb lock spins freely so the tool will pop open rendering it pretty much useless.Overall, the tool operates as advertised but these "features" are far overrated. 3Gap in cutter Like other reviews here the pliers I received had a gap at the base of the cutter near the pivot. I contacted Channellock about the issue and they said they would send a new set. That was over a month ago. I will update this review when, or if, I get them. 1I was pretty excited to get this item I was pretty excited to get this item, but I was surprised to see the gap on the end of the cutters. The pliers were assembled slightly misaligned at the factory. I've since returned the welpers. 3
