Customer Reviews

Bosch does it Right. This unit is quite a bit quieter than the unit I had before. Plenty of power and a variable speed at the back side of the tool. I love the led light since when your in a tight spot it is hard to see sometimes. Bosh has always performed well for me. Also the cord is nice and long, I think it said 3 feet but it is more like 10. 5This is a real machine -I have tried other multi-tools and have a cordless Bosch but needed a corded solution to clean up flooring edges before installing a new floor - this was perfect -Its significantly quieter and smoother than many of the others and this higher powered one never seems to bog down - its equal to any task I tried. The StarLock mounting system seems like its clearly superior to previous mounting schemes - super fast and easy and a very positive grip on the tool. It instantly drops the blade when you pull the lever and the next blade just snaps into the mount with a slight pressure - snapping closed on the new tool.I used a scraper blade to cut away the flooring adhesive under the base molding and wood blades to trim door jambs and base that was too low. 5Tool gets a 5 star. Blades get the 2I buy tools for work on a regular basis. Bosch is usually a good call for power and durability and this one is no different. My problem is with the blades. The starlock blades are expensive compared to other formats. I mean like 3x more expensive. So my advice is if you plan to use this type of tool regularly check the blade format and get a model that you can get reasonably priced consumables. 2GOP55-36The blade release mechanism, soft start, variable speed, and long cord with swivel connection are great features. It comes with a sand pad as well. The tool is really rugged. The vibration is minimal.I wish this one had an LED light on the front like the GOP40-30.I wish the bag was a little bigger. That said, it works really well and I recommend this tool. 5Works good blade lock could use improvementWorks good and will be used alot. The blade release system doesn't function properly most of the time. I was hoping it would loosen up after the first few times but no luck. It will release the blade no problem but get's hung up in the released position even with the handle in lock position. So when I install another blade I have to pop it back locked with a flat blade screwdriver. That makes it a bit of a pain. 4Only 1 regretMy regret is that I didn't own an oscillating saw years ago. If you are thinking about buying one for the first time, do it. I'm finishing a DIY bathroom remodel and decided to get this tool on a friends recommendation. Don't know how I ever got by without it in the past. I decided on the Bosch GOP40-30C 3 piece kit. I have 2 Bosch drills and jigsaw. These things are indestructible. This Bosch oscillating saw is no different. It feels well made. Heavy cord, solid body. You can tell the on/off switch is made to last. Nothing cheap about this tool. The "kit" has several blades for various uses (and sanding pads). So far I've only used the carbide universal blade for sub-floor and sheet rock wall cuts, and it cut perfectly. I noticed several nail cuts, the blade went through these so well that I didn't ever notice it while cutting. The case is so useful that I'll use it to store the saw with all the parts and carry it from various projects. It won't go in the attic like most all the other cases for power tools that I own. The starlock blade attachment is a breeze. Great idea for quick blade changes when the blade is hot. The release lever is metal and feels solid. Do yourself a favor and get this Bosch tool. You won't have to worry about the 4 AMP motor burning up like a cheaper one. 5Really liking the new max modelI had my last one for about 7 years. I spent 200 on it and not long after I got it, it was submerged in water for about two weeks without me knowing. I dried it out and let it set for a few days. It still ran like a champ. I used and abused the old one. The locking mechanism for the blade finally took a dump 2 weeks ago. It was always a little off after the flooding. But, still worked nevertheless. It was one of the toughest power tools I've ever owned. It even survived 2 years of being used by helpers.I think everyone should own an oscillating multitool. If I only had one power tool, this would be the one. Now, on to the new one. I opted for the 5.5 amp max model. I didn't think the old one could be any better. Well, the new one is. I bet the vibration transfer to the hands is maybe 50 percent compared to my old one. I'm not sure if the oscillating pattern or speed is different, but the max whizzes thru wood like butter. Shipping we incredibly fast. The only draw back I can see is that it doesn't accept the old style blades. Now, I didn't have a huge stockpile of the old blades. But, what I am already missing is my 1 1/2" carbide tipped blade. I have replaced them as necessary so I didn't keep too many on hand. But that blade will last months of heavy use if you take care around nails. I hope they are making this blade in the starlock style, but I know for a fact home Depot doesn't carry them. That is the only reason for not getting 5 stars, Bosch. I wish I could have taken just a half star off.Folks, if you are on the fence about this tool, go ahead and pull the trigger. The day after I bought the old one 7 years ago, I thought to my self, " how did I ever make it the last 20 years without this thing?!!". 4Mostly great, but not quite.I've become a big fan of Bosch tools over the years and this Oscillating Multi-tool is impressive in most ways. It is very well made, heavy duty, and shows the quality manufacturing that is typical of Bosch. But my first job with the tool was to scrape and sand of houseful of old, beat up storm windows and I really needed the detail sander to help with the prep work. Unfortunately, the sandpaper that comes with this tool and the sanding head are useless. Every sheet of sandpaper I tried vibrated right off the head within two minutes of using it. I used light pressure, firm pressure, different angles and so on, but not a single sheet of the sandpaper held. I've been a professional house painter and owned two painting businesses so I like to think I know what I'm doing but I couldn't make this work. The tool is advertised as coming with 30 accessories, but 25 of them are just useless pieces of sandpaper. If sanding isn't on your list I would say this is a great tool for most other tasks. 4Great tool, bad pricing on accessoriesI've put this to use cutting nails, sheet metal, wood, drywall, etc... It's done a great job. I only have two problems with it.First: I wish I had known that it has a big brother aimed at contractor work before I bought this one. The bigger the better when it comes to multi-tools in my opinion.Secondly: The blades were expensive when I first bought it, and they keep going up. $15 a pop for the carbide plunge blades as I write this. They were $10 each when I bought the tool which was still a princely sum for something that is highly disposable.I just wish it wasn't worth it to avoid the hassle of not having to deal with dull blades because this tool is quickly pricing itself out of my repertoire. I find myself reaching for other tools that can do the job a little bit slower just because I don't want to keep buying exorbitantly priced blades. 4GOP40 is a phenomenal multitool which a super fast on-off blade system; but note it will not fit OIS bladesOk, first know what you are getting: this is the latest in blade lock tech which both Bosch and Fein are doing: it is a no-touch on and off starlock system for these blades. It will not take the old OIS blades, and does not advertise that it will. What is confusing is that the OSL blades which work with this CAN be used on older Bosck multitools. So, there is blade compatibility backward, but again, the GOP40 will not take the OIS blades. The blade removal is absurdly easy: no more hex wrnech or tool to put blades on and off. They literally snap on, and with a turn of the lever, pop right off. Because of the numerous contact points of the blade connection, I am finding that the power transfer feels stronger and there is no slop at all in the blade movement. And you still have all of the angles of attachment too.The unit itself is a beast. 4 amp motor is top in its class, so there is no lack of power even at the lowest setting. The housing is bombproof, but fortunately the tool is fairly light at 3.5 lbs and feels good in the hand with significantly less vibration than cheaper units. Noise level is less than expected for a multitool. As for uses, just go on youtube. This tool is a lifesaver for doing your own renovation work. Just for removing old caulk, this unit was worth its weight in gold.If you are debating about this unit versus ones that still take OIS, I would note that OIS blades are alot cheaper and there are generics out there. However, I would expect that even the cheaper units will catch up with the new blade attachment system in a few year, so why buy into the old tech unless you are simply destroying tons of blades. In all, I am super happy with the GOP 40. 5
