    You get what you pay forWorked okay when it was new, a little temperamental but acceptable for the price, but after a few months it seemed to get less and less reliable. I tried cleaning it very carefully but that didn't seem to do anything so I ended up using my pin most of the time. Now I migrated it to a new computer and nothing. I guess I'll get a new one and not go the cheap route this time.2Very good of its kindThis device is very accurate and quite fast. It's compact and works at all angles. It's harder to make mistakes because it involves no motion. My only concern is it can get quite hot when idle so it may not be that energy efficient, especially for laptops. I have no solid data on that though, just my observation. The heating issue is only a discomfort because it feels like something's wrong with the device. It's not like it becomes unusable. I haven't experienced a similar issue with a "sliding" reader.4works for a short time only, unreliableWorks for the first hour or so after being plugged in, until it gets warm.Once warm it begins detecting false finger touches (i.e. you don't touch it but it sends a fingerprint to the computer as if you did). Obviously the false fingers don't match the ones you have configured, so you get a login error. After several of those, the fingerprint login will lock up...I emailed their support address, they responded asking if it's getting warm (apparently they know exactly what's wrong), after I replied affirmatively, they stopped responding.So, bottom line, this device is not useful and ended up being unplugged, sitting on my desk collecting dust.2Not So Great After A WhileThis gives your Windows 10 laptop same login facility that has long been on iOS or Android phones.Plug the thing in a spare USB2 port and let Windows detect & install it. After this step is over, you will then be able to setup Windows Hello from Control Panel. It is just like your smart phone, create a pin and then start enrolling your finger prints when asked. As someone else pointed out in the reviews, try to enroll your main finger twice. This is because you want to give the scanning system a better chance at recognising your finger whichever way you placed it on that day. Maybe enroll your main finger whilst sat-down and then the second time whilst standing-up. Windows will reboot. At your Lock Screen (where you'd usually press NumLock to get to the PIN screen), now just touch your BioKey and Lockscreen will take you to Desktop.After first setting up, BioKey performed snappily but not anymore. Not sure if it was the humidity during last storm or what, but this thing is not snappy anymore. Now because I installed this device on my parent's laptop, I've now had to tape some additional instructions for them to get this thing to work properly (see photo). It really pains me to see my mother vigorously scrub her finger on her dress because she thinks that dirt on her finger made the recognition process fail. Mum it is not your fault.If at first I'd have given BioKey a 5/5, now it is more 3.5 out of 5 type of device. (Actually you can make it snappy again, delete all fingers and re-enroll your finger(s) again. Then do this every 3 months. Sorry not me). My LG phone has a more reliable and faster fingerprint scanner, making me wonder why isn't LG making USB Win10 fingerprint readers? I'd buy that!3Fast Accurate ScannerVery accurate and quick scanner. Works great with Windows 10 Hello. Easy set up, takes a couple minutes to scan finger into database but once it's logged you can unlock your computer in seconds from the lock screen. I bought this one for travel and one with a cord for home5When it works, it works well.....but it does not consistantly work.It works fine for awhile, then gets stubborn for a period of time. It seems to be an issue with the print reader itself. I have a Dell mouse with fingerprint reader that works flawlessly.I have yet to receive an acknowledgement for the Omnipass software product key, so that was a waste of time/effort. Bio-Key tech support phone mailbox is full. Have never been able to get a person to answer. Tech support emails have yet to be answered.Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit 1809 Build2Works as expected.I have to say, I was not so sure about the packaging this reader came in... pretty basic (see picture) and kinda sketchy, but I guess you get what you pay for. I plugged the reader in to my Windows 10 device and expected things to run smoothly from there... sadly, there were some group policies in place that prevented Windows Hello from allowing me to register my fingerprint. I do not hold that against the manufacturer of the reader as this is related to Windows and my organization.After doing some research and enabling some features, I got to try out the reader. I added three fingers to my profile and so far have not had any issues with it detecting my finger and logging me in. I would suggest scanning at least one finger multiple times (as new fingerprints) and holding the finger in different positions to make sure that the reader never fails to recognize you. The hardware works well so far and if I begin to experience any issues, I'll be sure to return and update my post.I took away a star for the poor product packaging and mediocre instruction booklet.4Finger print recognition is only fairFinger print recognition is only fair. I have set up fingerprint recognition for Windows 10 Hello login on my desktop several times. At best it recognizes my fingerprint about half the time. I can usually get it to work by moving my finger a little, but about one time out of 5, it fails to recognize my finger print within 5 tries and the login process requires me to enter my PIN instead.3POOR1) does not work with Windows 8 or 10, but rather only works with Windows Hello- I have two laptops with Windows 10 but not Hello, did not work. 2) not very secure because of Windows Hello- Hello requires a PIN which is the 2nd least secure way of logging on (only next to nothing to logon), The most secure way is supposed to be password, my old 2007 l/t has a fingerprint reader that can have multiple passwords. In this day of ID theft running rampant, why did we remove this security?1Five Starsworks fine. It learns quick and easy.5
