    How to use it.This item was exactly what I needed to replace the caller id I had for many years from Radio Shack. The delivery date came much sooner than I was told and everything was packed great. The only thng I did not like was that the screen on the called ID was not lit up so it was hard to see unless you had it close to a light source.Otherwise I am very pleased with my purchase. 5Great value, simple to useI love this simple, easy-to-use caller ID box. The display is fairly large (about 2" across) and much easier to read than the displays on most phones with caller ID built in. The buttons are a comfortable size, and very intuitive - when the red light is on, indicating that I missed some calls came while I was out, it is very easy to scroll through them and read who called and when. The green message indicator light works with my FIOS service, and tells me when I have a new message in voicemail that I need to call in and retrieve. It is easy to call back numbers that called, selecting whether the system needs to dial an area code or not (you select the 7, 10, or 11 digit button). The unit is not heavy or bulky, but it does have little rubber feet on the bottom and has just enough weight that it doesn't slide around the desk. It has screws and hooks for wall mounting, but I haven't tried that. Note that it does need to be plugged in to work, so if you wall mount it, you will have to run the power cord somewhere.What I really like about this unit is that it allows me to use a classic, old-school telephone, but still have the convenience of caller ID and message waiting lights. You can display your vintage (or new but vintage-style) phone in a prominent location, and tuck this unit away to the side. It has a "flash" button on it too, so you can use that if your phone doesn't have one.I paid around $16.50 for this on Amazon, and feel like I got a great deal. For me, this Bellsouth unit alongside a simple, old-style Cortelco corded phone, is a better setup than a more modern phone with lots of "features" but inferior sound and questionable build quality. 5WORKS WITH MY VOIP SYSTEMThis is an uncompensated review for the BellSouth Caller ID, model CI 43. The device worked perfectly right out of the box. I was concerned that it might not work with my ooma Voice Over Internet Protocol, but it is fully operational. I especially like scrolling through the calls. However, like other reviewers, the display characters are not very large and the display itself is a little dark. Would have given 5 starts except for this. Otherwise this is a good value and I am happy with my purchase. 4The product is as advertized and it works with my Magic Jack Plus VOIP service too!The product is as advertized. I am using it with my Magic Jack Plus VOIP service and I have 4 phones and two of these caller ID units on the line with a total REN load of 3.0. It shows the caller phone number and time stamp, which is what I'm mainly interested in. Unfortunately, the Magic Jack service doesn't support any other features with the call such as call waiting, forwarding, pending voice messages, etc. (but I don't mind living without those features being that I'm only paying about $50/YEAR for the service including unlimited long distance calls!). The time stamp that the Magic Jack service sends with the call is Eastern Time and I live in the Pacific time zone, so I have to subtract 3 hours from what I see on the display -- no big deal. The display is easily readable if there is room light, but it would be nice if it had a back light for a dimly lit room. I really like the call-back feature too, which is very convenient -- nice! Be sure to read all the operating instructions to know how to correctly operate all the functions! Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product and pleased to see it working with my Magic Jack Plus too. 4Satisfied with my Bellsouth Caller ID with Call Waiting CI 43I didn't think it would be so hard to find a simple caller ID, but it was. Once I found this one, it looked like what I was looking for - a very basic, no-frills, inexpensive device, that identified incoming calls. We have Caller ID service on all our phones at work, but only a few have caller ID on their phones. We were told if we had our own ID we could use it, and this is what I found. Does exactly what I need. It identifies the incoming call and if I miss a caller, and no message is left, I can return that call if necessary. Yes, a back-lit unit would be nice, but for the price, the lack of does not make it a no-deal.It's not great, but it's pretty good, especially for the price. 4Works great... good replacement for old oneThis item replaced a much older one that had finally failed, and I'm very pleased with it so far. It's connected to my only hard-wired landline phone, and I use it to retain caller IDs indefinitely that I may have erased from my other phones. This has certainly been a worthwhile purchase for me. 5BADDDD ! ..DONT WASTE YOUR' MONEY on this device - it has NO real memory to hold messages even when power to it or with FRESH or NEW back-up batteries installed & even tho there's a hole to reset the device.., once u reset it - all the info on the device is gone aswell & the device resets itself to default settings & that means memory, date(s), number(s) recieved by the device and u cant set the date.., time.., etc. manually & again that's with NEW or FRESH back-up batteries installed.., i'll be returning mine for a refund because one day of lost messages is too much for me.., i dont kno about the other "BELL SOUTH CALLER I-Ds " but this particular device doesnt rate 1/2 a star vs. a full star so no-wonder these devices are being sold for so cheap ( & AMAZON - U CAN DO BETTER ) ! - cuz these devices are useless.., BAD PRODUCT.., DONT RECOMEND !!! .. 1Not what was ordered. Cheap knockoff!!I ordered a caller ID from Bellsouth with several features that I wanted. What I got was a totally different caller ID with almost no features except a review button to see the number history. It is far less technically advanced, almost like a bare bones model. I paid my money for what was pictured and described. I received something I never would have ordered in the first place. I am very upset and angry. 1what I expected except for one thingI like the caller id but the box on the outside shows a small round green light as well as the red one. My old one had both so I expected it to have both (green for message waiting and red for new call). The device did not match what was on the box but the red light does the work of both which is ok with me. I only want to know when someone calls and if there is a message. Caller id with call waiting might work but I don't know if it does or not. I don't get that many calls and I am not by the device when I am on the phone and another call comes in. It does what I need it to do and so I am happy. 5Just what I wantedFor my land-line I have caller ID and voice mail service through Verizon Fios. I have tried various telephones with built-in caller ID display and they have all been unsatisfactory. While shopping on Amazon for yet another telephone I came across this stand-alone BellSouth caller ID unit and after reading favorable reviews I ordered one. I am so glad I did. It works exactly as described. Now I can finally read the caller ID display, and at a glance know if I have missed a call or if I have a message waiting. I am extremely pleased with this. 5
