MORE BANG FOR YOUR BELKIN BUCK I was looking for a mouse. A cheap mouse. Something under $10. Hopefully, something that would actually last longer than the last cheap mouse I bought on Amazon (it didn't even last a month!). I have used and reviewed a lot of Belkin products in the past, usually with pretty good results. This was not literally THE cheapest mouse I could find on Amazon, but it was still under $10, so I decided to take a gamble on it.Fortunately, for what is unarguably a "cheap" (in cost) mouse, the Belkin USB Optical Mouse is surprisingly well built and works flawlessly. A couple of things impressed me with this mouse off the bat, First, it has no ridiculous, unnecessary LEDs. I have this mouse connected to a laptop in my bedroom and mice with blinking LEDs drive me nuts. They also waste electricity. I love the fact that this mouse does not light up my entire bedroom, even when the computer is unplugged. Secondly, I was also impressed with the USB cable that the mouse uses. Most "cheap" mice sold these days use cords that are as thin as a strand of spaghetti. This is always a sign of poor construction, which leads to a very short mouse lifespan. The Belkin mouse has a pretty beefy USB 2.0 cable by today's standards. Light enough to not get in your way, but thick enough that it will probably last longer than my past few cheap mice put together. The packaging that the mouse arrived in was a very simple cardboard box. No driver disk (none necessary, for Windows at least). No confusing manual written in Chinese. No maddening blister packaging, nor any materials that can't be recycled. Kudos to Belkin for keeping things simple. It's definitely worth more than the $2-3 extra than you will pay for THE cheapest mouse you can find here on Amazon. So, do yourself a favor and give the Belkin mouse a try. I'm guessing that you will not be disappointed, either. 4This is a good solid mouse without all the extraneous buttons that are ... This is a good solid mouse without all the extraneous buttons that are good for nothing beyond accidentally hitting them and making your computer do unexpected things. It's not easy to find one this well made without paying close to twice as much. The only thing preventing a full 5 stars is that the rubbery part around the mouse wheel tends to get pushed up out of the groove it's in if too much pressure is applied when scrolling, causing it to stick. It's rather simple to push it back down into the groove when it happens, but it's still enough of an annoyance to cost a star (honestly, I don't know why they didn't just make it solid plastic or rubber to avoid this). 4Does Not Hold Up Purchased this mouse in November of 2017. By July of 2018 the scrolling wheel failed. The life of a PC mouse should be measured in years not months. Very disappointed with this purchase. 1Brand New Unit Works Great & Looks Good. I normally buy Logitech M100 & B100 budget mice, so, I'll compare this Belkin F5M010qBLK mouse to those. The Belkin is a good looking unit in deep black plastic, with a nicely sculpted form ; it fits the hand well, for a 3/4 size mouse. It is about 1/2 and inch shorter than the M100 & B100 units, but about the same maximum height and width. The USB cord is nearly 1 foot shorter than the Logitech units, so be mindful if you need the extra length. Click action, as a new unit, is good and the scroll wheel/middle button is smokey tinted plastic (which glows red) and functions accurately and as expected. I cannot address durability, at this time, as the unit is new. I'm hoping it gives me, at least, a year before the Left Mouse button begins going out as it does on the Logitech units. If I get more than a year, I'll switch to Belkin mice completely. Really, for a budget mouse, I don't think you can go wrong with this Belkin unit. 5Lasted 2 months When it was working, everything was great. My only complaint was the wire. It seemed to sometimes make the mouse harder to move. However, only 2 months after getting this mouse it has basically stopped working. It's very hit or miss. The usb part that goes into the port is very wonky and despite being fully inserted will either not work, or go back and forth between working and disconnecting. I'm very disappointed :( 1Much lighter and smaller than I was expecting, doesn't feel like it'll last This mouse is too small and light for me and the clicks are much louder than my previous mouse (Microsoft Comfort 3000 that I had to replace due to the scroll wheel getting too gummy and dragging against the sides, comparison pictured). I just started using it and since the cable isn't straightened out yet it keeps dragging against parts of my desk and dragging the mouse with it. After only a few hours of use the scroll wheel has started squeaking which just feels like shoddy build quality. It's fine in that it works as a mouse and it's cheap but since I mostly just use a desktop I don't need a mouse that I can travel with. 3Lasted 3 years, finally replacing with a different brand due to hand pain I bought this mouse Sept. 6th, 2013. Then, in early September 2016, my computer finally stopped "recognizing" it. The wire had finally worn down, so I'm sure it was the mouse, not the laptop. It costs even less on Amazon now than it did 3 years ago (used to be about 8 dollars).I am not a gamer, but study music in grad school. Because I edit audio, I need a mouse that doesn't make erratic movements on screen. I found the responsiveness of this mouse to be good quality. I ordered another mouse that was twice the price and didn't work as well.I considered docking a star because I have hand pain when I use the track wheel for long periods of time, so even though this mouse is still available, I feel like I'll probably have to find a new brand. 5DEFECTIVE PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!! ITS A DEFECTIVE PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!!!!DONT BUY THIS AND DON'T BUY ANYTHING. FROM THIS COMPANY!!! 1Great Mouse I'm very happy with this mouse so far. It felt like a bit of a gamble, ordering it when there weren't any product reviews posted, but I really liked the design of it (in particular, the fact that the apex of its body is set farther back than other mouses, which I had hoped would make it more comfortable and ergonomic to hold). It was pretty inexpensive, too, which is nice. My hunch seems to have paid off so far: the mouse is really comfortable and easy to use. I like using it 100x more than my old notebook mouse which was short, stumpy, and uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. With this mouse, my hand rests very naturally on top of it, which also makes it feel very natural and effortless to move the mouse around. It feels smooth and responsive when I'm sliding it across my desk. I only wish it were a little heavier, since it feels pretty light, and I've been using it for some occasional gaming (e.g., L4D2, TF2), so a little extra weight might have helped out. My only other complaint is that the USB plug itself is oddly long, such that part of its metal end hangs out of the port even when I have it plugged all the way into my laptop's USB port. This is probably why it disconnects sometimes when I accidentally bump the USB plug with my left hand (my laptop doesn't have any rear USB ports, sadly). In summary:Pros:-smooth, responsive performance-comfortable design (which also helps speed & accuracy of pointer/cursor/camera movement)-inexpensiveCons:-long plug; can disconnect device if bumped-I wish it were heavier 4An Affordably Priced, Accurate Mouse This Belkin mouse shipped incredibly fast, and I am very pleased with my choice. The size of the mouse is just right for me, and my hand fits comfortably on the unit. I like the ease of clicking the buttons, and the scroll responds well. If you are looking for a mouse with a long cord, this one will not disappoint - the cord is 5 feet long! Since this is a plug-and-play mouse, you don't have to worry about downloading any software or using a CD, it just works as soon as you plug it into the USB port. Overall, the price is right, and you get very good value for your purchase. 5
