not what I expectedShould have payed more attention these are not in single serving pouches and two of them only last 5 years one of those was a year old so I get 4 years on that one 3Not sure about this...Well, if its all you have to eat, better than nothing. Best thing about this is the shelf life, (20 years). It appears most of the items need boiling water to reconstitute, I did try the chicken soup, threw most of it out, the broth was o.k., but some of the vegetables didn't come back to life properly, and it seemed to be mostly macaroni, and rice.Having survived the Ohio ghettos, I'm not too picky, but not currently starving, that might make a difference. Both a good source of calories, so for this may be better for surviving than hardtack. Part of the issues I have is being alone, most of the packs make 8 servings, so you have to find a way to keep it from spoiling after re-hydrating each pouch. 3A great buy !I recently read a review that said shelf life was under 20 years, true but only if you open a food pack, or do not store to manufactures specs, I also read it was not all Augason farms food, so I decided to open one of my buckets, I seen no signs of early expiration dates, all packaging shows no private labels from other companies, there were also current manufacturing dates on them and a 2036 date stamped on the bucket. I have yet to taste the food, I feel if it comes that time where I need to eat this, I probably will not care if it's a gormay meal, excuse my spelling, but nutrition, amount of food for a great price, this is why I purchased, and I will continue to purchase Augason Farms 5Prepping for what I hope never happensJust started to prep an emergency pack or aka bug out bag because of the recent earthquakes that have been felt in CA. It's definitely something I feel that every person should have ready to go just in case. I haven't actually tried the food in this pack and I hope I never have to. It came in a very sturdy pail of which I don't feel is the best to tote this around in. Wish it came in like a waterproof backpack so someone could easily trek with it since it's a pain in the butt to lug around. But if you ever need you can re- purpose it as a potty or seat if there ever really is an emergency. Thank my Marine brother for that tip ;) Overall, it fit my needs. 4So far so good. I have eaten the chicken noodle soupSo far so good. I have eaten the chicken noodle soup. It tastes a little like Lipton cuppa soup. The chocolate pudding is pretty good. It has a little odd taste but I think that may be my water. City water leaves a bit of itself behind in everything.I bought this as a tester. I want to know what I am getting when I store some back. I think I like this brand already. I can't wait for the clam chowder. OOPS! I mean Corn Chowder. : ).I cannot recommend it over any other products because I have not tried but one and I do not see much difference. Try it. I like it. You may also.UPDATE REVIEW: I like it. I served up some potato soup to a neighbor and now she thinks I am gonna make a fine wife someday. She loved it. I just ordered the Breakfast/dinner bucket. I have gone through about 1/2 of the lunch/dinner bucket and I know the Breakfast/Dinner bucket will last just as long. I do recommend these for your emergency cache. However, I am using them as a supplement to my other dinner fixins. Thanks Augasons. Good stuff. 5Good assortment easy to prepare lunches and dinners for camping or for emergenciesI inspected the contents and all the Mylar pouches of food were there and were properly sealed. The bucket contains 21,020 calories of lunch and dinner meals, or about 15 days of food (not including fifteen 667 calorie breakfasts) if you are aiming for 2000 calories per day. Each pouch contains multiple servings, so you will need to have some Zip Lock bags to store the opened pouches. All the food requires mixing with boiled water and some requires simmering, so you will need a supply of clean water and a camp stove or some other way to boil water in a cooking pot. When I re-packed the food bucket, there was enough space left to add a Mylar bag of 6.5 cups of quinoa grain (26 servings of whole grain complete protein at 170 calories per serving). For a true grid-down emergency, the nutrition in this bucket would be a big help. I would supplement it with a #10 can of vitamin C-fortified drink mix and 2 or 3 #10 cans of freeze-dried non-starchy vegies (broccoli, carrots, zucchini, spinach...) for more balanced nutrition. 5you better look forward to eating 8 servings of it before ...It has a lot of servings, yes, but the problem is all 8 servings come in ONE bag of food. So once you open that pasta, you better look forward to eating 8 servings of it before it goes bad. 3Prepper XtrasGood value,product as advertised.Nutritional information on label,Good storage life of product .Meals would probably be sufficient by themselves or one could possibly add canned meats to create a more hearty meal. 5Not bad!Ate these during a 5 day hiking trip and enjoyed the variety! Some of the meals aren't fabulous, but when you're cold, wet, and starved, pretty much anything will do. Not bad for "emergency" food. Downside is that they take a lot of gas to cook(20-30 min of simmering). 4Check inside the bucket for spillage!!!Came sealed, tamper ring on the lid still intact. At the top of the bucket a corner of the cheese powder bag had been sliced open allowing the noxious contents to spill out and coat everything in the bucket. None of the other packs had been damaged, just the cheese powder. If I have to worry about situations like this, I will not trust this manufacturer for long term storage foods. Having to wash off and inspect bags of freeze-dried foods is not my idea of having a good weekend.See the pictures for details.Augason Farms, you may have a disgruntled employee in the packing plant.
