Customer Reviews

5GHz stopped working after a couple months11/26/2018 - *Edit* As of this past weekend, the adapter has to be frequently stops working and must be unplugged and plugged back in to regain functionality.I bought this USB adapter specifically for its 802.11ac support and while it worked for a little bit, it now isn't able to see our 5GHz broadcast. Bought in August, not functioning by November.Router dual band broadcast:- 2.4Ghz broadcast- 5Ghz broadcast 802.11ac, 802.11n (See attached image for broadcast specs)Both our TVs, both our phones, and wife's Win10 laptop can see and connect to our 5GHz broadcast. My PC using the wireless adapter can see and connect to 2.4GHz but cannot even see the 5GHz broadcast. In the past I have been able to see and connect to our 5GHz broadcast but at some point between PC reboot, router reboot, or a silent driver update somewhere my PC can't even see it any more.Troubleshooting:1 - I've swapped wireless mode on adapter between "Auto" and the other various modes that included "802.11ac".2 - I've tried updating the driver.3 - I've tried rolling back the driver.4 - I've tried uninstalling the device in device manager and installing it from scratch.5 - I've rebooted my PC multiple times.6 - Tried the adapter in different USB ports.7 - I did a netsh wlan show interfaces and confirmed that wife's laptop is using "802.11ac" to connect to it.8 - I disabled the onboard wlan for wife's laptop, installed the USB wlan adapter on her laptop and it couldn't detect the 5GHz broadcast.1Simple & Worthy Upgrade. Using 5 MHz tooWow! Easy install and works as it should!Dell notebook with older b/g/n WiFi, with Windows 10 installed. Ookla Speedtest and Google s speedtest both struggled to achieve much more than a couple of (2-3) Mbps download results.I plugged the adapter into a USB slot, Windows installed the device with little fanfare, yay. Looking at Device Manager I could see the new adapter under networking. I jumped over to the notifications area on the task bar, clicked on my WiFi icon, selected my WiFi network (802.11AC). Again, connected without issue. Disabled the old Dell b/g/n adapter n Device Manager. Re-ran speed test again and no getting results consistently 100-200 Mbps (using 802.11 AC router and 250 Mbps internet access). Windows Task Manager > Performance tab showed CPU never went above 60 percent utilization, 4 of 8 GB RAM use, and networking showing similar or higher throughputs than speed tests. Outlook, Firefox with multiple tabs, 2 PDFs, several word docs, folders, and more all open during test.Loaded several websites, news sites, that lately have been sluggish to load, at best, and all came up quickly as the should, visibly loading in just a couple of seconds versus a noticeable delay previously.Still need a new notebook, but this adapter keeps the current one useful for a while longer. For low $$, though losing a USB slot, it is a worthwhile upgrade.5its okay but its a finicky little thingI have mine plugged into a Dell Latitude E6430. Dell's wifi drivers are wonky. They'll work for certain wifi connections but not others. This is a little better but its finicky. It doesnt do distance. At all. I work at a Dentist office overnight doing janitorial, and when I use their wifi, I cant be on the other side of the building from the server/modem thing because this wifi card wont even pick up the network.I have a 10 year old acer aspire 5515. It picks up the wifi all throughout the building. At home I have a wifi extender in the middle of the house. The router is in the front. Anytime I move from the middle of the house to the front I have to switch networks from the extender to the router. And vica versa. But I guess the upside though is that the usb stick doesnt stick far out so if you drop the laptop, it wont get broken off.3Awesome WirelessThis is more than a review. First I would buy this wi-fi usb again. Works great. Showed up as WiFi 2 on Windows 10. Within a day I started having more than the usual connection problems with my Microsoft Wireless Adapter-Miracast device. This device allows me to send Netflix, Amazon Prime, or anything else on my computer to the TV. Great device. The connection problems, however, are NOT THE Result of my new Asus Nano. getting 100Mbs with the new wireless at 5GHz connection. The original card Atheros is only a 2.5 connection. So using a dual band router I have great connection speeds. But what was up with the Miracast device?****After mucking around for a few hours yesterday and today--and after a chat with MSFT Support--I turned OFF the original Atheros wifi card. I did rename the Asus Nano first just to be sure I was turning off the correct card. Now, both the MSFT Wireless Adapter (about 5 years old) and the Screenbeam Adapter for another TV (same age) display as devices that I can connect. This doesn't mean I still won't have some issues. But at least i'm headed in the right direction. I do not have this issue with my other laptop (Surface 3 Pro). Oh well. The Asus Nano Dual Band Wireless USB is an awesome, easy upgrade.5Great little WiFi Adapter.Bought this one because the integrated WiFi on my wife's laptop was dying. Has no problems getting a strong signal on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands from my router anywhere in the apartment. It's speedy for internet downloads and streaming, no complaints there. It's very tiny so it doesn't look too out of place when it's plugged in her laptop, which now is almost permanently. Would like to see a small device like this but with a USB 3.0 interface. One minor complaint is that the drivers have a typo... when you plug this in and Windows configures it, it's reported as a "Wieless" adapter. Seriously, Asus? I went into the registry myself and fixed all the instances where it was misspelled, so it doesn't bother me now.5Works as advertisedI used this adapter for my 5 year old Windows 10 Asus laptop which had a failed built-in WiFi chip. Followed the instructions by installing the software then plugging in the adapter. Windows identified the adapter, then allowed me to connect to my router. When I turned off, then restarted Windows, the computer tried unsuccessfully to connect using the old failed WiFi adapter. It took several iterations of turning on the new adapter in Windows setup and restarting; then Windows decided that the new adapter was the proper first choice. This adapter has worked correctly every time for the past several weeks; I leave the adapter plugged into the usb port all the time; I do shut down my computer when I'm through using it and then restart later. It just took me some patience and perseverance to get Windows to do the right thing.5This is uselessThis product cannot be installed on an XP computer that is not already connected to the Internet. All that comes in the box is the USB interface. No instructions. No driver software. The description lies. It cannot be installed on XP Windows. It requires a minimum of Windows 7.I was updating the network interface on an old XP laptop so that a class could use it and after calling ASUS product support for a driver, was told that it would not work on an XP computer. The support agent recommended that I purchase a cheaper ASUS USBAC51.1solid nano USB adapterThis adapter is made by Edimax and is the exact same as the Edimax AC1200 (you can look it up in wikidevi) so save yourself $10 and get the Edimax.Pros - Fantastic 5 ghz AC adapter. I get my full 100mbps down and 35mbps up even 15ft away from router and separated by furniture or an entire floor (standing just below the router). 25 ft away I get about 85% of my full potential speeds. I use this adapter as an upgrade for the 2 x 1 wifi antenna that came in my laptop. Its very small and perfect for laptops, you don't need to worry about hitting the adapter and damaging it and your laptop USB port.Cons - the 2.4ghz antenna is mediocre at best and delivers half of my potential wi-fi speeds even when standing next to the router or 25ft away. The adapter does get warm (not hot) and is not made for desktops, there are better adapters out there for desktops.Edimax sells the exact same unit for less.3and not a very good one at thatReview for ASUS USB-AC53 Nano. The 5 Ghz radio does not work with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update so it only functions as a wireless-N adapter, and not a very good one at that. I tried the included driver CD, the default Windows 10 driver, and about 3-4 other vendor drivers as described in the other reviews suggesting ways to get it working. I wish I had seen the negative reviews regarding Windows 10 driver issues before I purchased!1Unreliable; take your money elsewhereProduct worked well for exactly three weeks of daily use; it averaged 128 mbps on my home network which is close to the quoted maximum bandwidth. After three to for weeks the product began to abruptly stop and needed to be plugged back in to restore operations. I suspected this was a driver problem and tried reinstalling the drivers from both the included CD and ASUS website however, the problem persists. To ensure that it was not an issue with my firewall, home network appliance, or operating system I replicated the problem on three different PCs connected to multiple networks. When I remove the device from the USB port after loosing functionality I noticed that it is hot to the touch. This problem occurs in USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports. The device may be drawing too much power from the USB port. While this may suggest poor manufacturing quality ASUS have not updated the drivers since 2017. After seeing all the poor reviews for this product complaining of similar issues I suspect this product is no longer supported. Do not buy.1
