Customer Reviews

Don't buy the Arlo Baby Monitor buy a Nest cam I have tried 2 of them and both returned it. There is just a major software problem with these Arlo Baby cameras. I am still having Arlo security cameras but these work flawless. I was streaming to my iPad and probably every other day I had to restart the camera since it just stopped working in the middle of the night when all you want is to stream a life feed from your baby. I have a Netgear Orbi mesh system so my WIFI coverage and speed is great. Don't know what the problem is but you will find a ton of the same problems reported here and in Netgear forums. I bought a Nest cam and am quite happy with it. Works like a charm and is cheaper and has better image quality. 1Had one job, and couldn't do it.. When it was connected the picture quality and features were great, but thats a big IF.Unfortunately, this thing, at a minimum had one job. Monitor the baby. It could not deliver. This sucks because I spent months talking my wife into this smart monitor and she kept telling me it wouldn't work. I told her the reviews were good and it was going to be amazing.First night really using it and 3, yes THREE, devices on the same network could not stay connected. That meant a sleepless night not knowing if the new baby was crying or needing us.Really.. It had just one job and it failed. Worst of all my wife got to say "I told you so". 1Lost connection intermittently Terrible - lost connection throughout the night for the first few nights. Arlo support claimed it was a firmware issue and insisted it would be fixed upon updating to a new version. Once updated, still had the same issue. I m not alone in this issue - check the Arlo Community boards regarding this product. I sent it back and bought the Nest cam and use it without issues as a baby monitor. 1Very good, but not yet perfect!Has some disadvantages (standby mode doesn't work properly, detects motions where there are none, etc.) but overall very satisfied with the functionality and product overall.4So much better then traditional monitors We have two of these now for about 7-8 months and couldn t be happier. There are some drawbacks to getting a WiFi monitor vs a traditional one that I will get into later. But here are some of the features.Picture Quality:Far superior then traditional and more than adequate. There are times when baby has started to fuss and we could zoom in to face and see if pacifier is still in. If not we can see where it is, if it fell out of crib, etc.Viewing monitor:When we got 2nd arlo it came with free fire HD 8 and we basically use it as a dedicated monitor. There is really no comparison between checking baby on an 8 inch tablet vs those little 3 inch screens. We also frequently use our phones to check which works great.User Access:Some other comment mentioned how mom and dad can t both check at the same time so I wanted to mention that s completely wrong. In arlo you can create multiple accounts that can access/view simultaneously. Only one view per account, but multiple accounts is allowed and works.Recording:7 days of recordings free with arlo. We turned this off since we didn t want recordings of our little ones online. This is your choice and configurable.Alerts:We don t really use the alerts so can t comment. I don t see the need for a monitor since we prefer to have volume on and just be able to hear little one.Listen Mode:I love this feature and use it all the time. Sometimes while working in yard while it s nap time I ll just put my phone in listen mode in my pocket and can hear when baby starts to stir.Air Quality:The temperature and air quality features are nice bonus. I have a few portable temperature monitors in the house to track how well I m Hvac system is working and I ve been able to put them else where and just use arlo for kids rooms.Other features:You can talk to baby through monitor if you want. This works but we don t use it often. The monitor also has some night light and jingle feature that are sub par. We use a separate sound machine / night light that works better.Battery/PortabilityHaving the camera battery is a nice feature. We don t take advantage of it often since kids nap in crib most of the time. But like all parents we ve had those days where baby wouldn t go to bed and we ve had to improvise. Whether that means sleeping in car seat or swing or some other contraption, we ve had success in unplugging arlo from power source and running off batter to monitor baby in a different room.WiFi Monitor drawbacks:These are drawbacks of all WiFi monitors not just arlo. One is delay. I found the delay in old video monitor to be about 1 second while arlo can be 3-5 seconds. Not a big deal to me.Another is initial connection time. Old video monitor would connect right away. Arlo can take longer for initial connection. Usually 5-10 seconds, but there have been occasions where it hangs a bit and I would just kill the app and start over, usually getting in quickly on second attempt. This is very infrequent and really not a big deal.Other Comments:A lot of reviews talk about connection issues. In 7ish months we had one issue where we had to reboot an arlo. Other then that it s worked fine. If you have a decent WiFi setup in your house you shouldn t have any issues. We have two WiFi access points in my house for better coverage.Security is often a concern with WiFi monitors. Arlo takes this seriously and allows you to use strong passwords and user access controls. There are other inherent risks to IoT devices that I will not get into here but arlo controls are pretty good in this space. 5Meets all your mommy needs to monitoring your baby! The Arlo baby camera has meet all my needs. I was looking for something new and high tech and that offered me many features.Music player: to sooth baby when cryingNight light: to help me see in the nightRoom status: to let me know the temperature and humidity in the room. Two way speaking: so I can let me baby know I m nearNight vision: very clearDay vision: very clearDevice: it can be used plugged in or unplugged on battery life which I use to move from the nursery to the living room.Battery life: is 3 hours, for me I wish it could be more especially cause I leave it plugged in most of the time. But it s the least of my worries I still love itNotifications: lets me know if there s a sound or a movement, or if Baby is crying. I can be in any app on my phone and it lets me know.I love and have already recommended two other people to the baby Arlo!5Easily swapped out on the cameraWe like that the camera can be customized with the skins for different animals. They are easy to change out.4Do not buy thisWhat a god damn waste of Money !I wanted the camera not the Cover of the camera. For the same amount of money I would have bought the camera in NZ1Great baby camera with options but too glitchy for ios users. Great baby camera with a lot of options. The camera is very clear and available in 1080p. It even can sense the air quality and alerts you. Negative is that the new firmware has issues with the speaker. The speaker is very glitchy and will not work at times. I hope they fix the issues with the speaker. Has free cloud service so that you can store the video for a week.Update 2 monthsHad to retract a few stars on thid device. It's very glitchy and problematic with new firmwarr updates causing connection issues. Seems to be a problem they take weeks to address at times, thus leaving us without a baby monitoring device. Also would recommend iphone folks to stay away from arlo baby as ios updates and arlo updates seem to clash. Can't comment on android devices but on my multiple ios devices it's been a real hassle. Really wanted to recommend this camera but at this point we cannot. 2Unreliable. Great idea with good features, but poorly implemented - buggy and unreliable. If you want a baby monitor that works, this is not the solution for you. Recent app updates have made it less unreliable, but it still crashes on a regular basis. I don't think we've made it more than two nights in a row without waking up to silence because it stopped working at some point during the night. 1Avoid (for now anyway) Avoid this one for now, folks. Constantly disconnects which you can only fix by manually hard reseting. Which requires you to ninja your way into your infant's room to disconnect it from power, switch off the battery, reconnect it, then run the app with the QR code.Waking your kid up. Defeating the purpose of the thing. $200 paperweight until they fix it. Netgear has had these complaints for months and done nothing, apparently. I'm stuck with it, but you should probably move on to a better one. 1We want to love it... Arlo Baby is separate from the rest of the Arlo cameras in the fact that it is a direct connection to your home wifi, vs a basestation as for the security cameras. The picture quality is amazing, when not pixelated. The delay is minimal, except for when it's over 30 seconds. The sound is amazing, when the app doesn't turn it off on you randomly in the middle of the night. The temperature sensor is a nice to have, except it constant reports Temps about 10degF higher. The air quality sensor is nice to have, except the camera will read abnormal VOCs and after a reset will read minimal VOCs. The connection to your home wifi is aweful. We have a Netgear Nighthawk wireless router and the camera consistently disconnects about every three days, usually in the middle of the night and there is a random amount of time the sensor data is not recorded (which one can assume is the duration the camera is off). We bought a netgear branded wifi extender/access point and put it in the nursery and it really did not increase the connection reliability. We enabled QOS on the router and prioritized the camera, this also did not increase the connection reliability. We want to love this camera because when it works it is a great device. Being able to connect while at work to check in with the wife while she is interacting with the little one is great. But the reliability of this device needs to be better and Netgear needs to listen and push out patches more than twice a year... Granted needing to support multiple mobile OSs and mobile devices, tablets computers, wifi and LTE is a big feat for Netgear, but they are selling a device which promises this functionality. They miss the mark on this one. A baby monitor needs to monitor 100% of the time. The hassle from this camera failing to meet expectations during the three months we've had our child means we cannot recommend this device. If Netgear can increase the reliability before we no longer need such a device, we will update our review. 2I don't understand the negative reviews! Tl;Dr - Buy this monitor. The bad reviews are issues with people's wifi/internet or their ability to work electronics.I bought this monitor about a month before my child was born because I wanted to make sure I had whatever we we're going to use set up and ready to go.I read the reviews. Soooo many bad ones. Connectivity issues, picture issues, app issues etc.I'm not sure if people just aren't setting this camera up correctly or aren't very tech savvy but I haven't encountered a SINGLE issue.Set up is easy. Plug in, wait for the light to blink, connect to WiFi. Fairly straight forward.Picture is awesome for what your buying. This isn't a 4k camera. People complaining about picture quality have too high of a bar. I can see exactly what I want to see on my monitor, which is my baby.Night vision is great. The Arlo app is awesome. It's user friendly, intuitive, and simple. My wife is NOT into tech. She needs something that just works, no fuss. After 5 min on the app she was navigating Arlo just fine. The free library of stored images and videos is a huge plus. Subscriptions are available but it not a need for us.This camera is AT LEAST worth you giving it a try. If something works better then fine, but there's no way Arlo put out as many bad cameras as there are reviews. I feel like some simple tech support would change people's minds on this product. 5Still has lots of problems that must be fixed. Not good VFM. Sick and tired of companies using us a guinea pigs. This is a half-finished product. I will name the three most important drawbacks:1. Camera gets stuck and gives you the message "The streaming service is reporting that the device is not streaming." How convenient when you just left home for holiday....trying to restart the camera gives another message "The camera is busy and cannot restart."2. User permissions for friends and family are horrible. You havn't got the slightest flexibility on how to set these. You cannot even temporarily disable somebody's access and re-enable later. No. In their infinite wisdom. netgear requires you to completely remove the account.3. The sensor readings are way off.4. Terrible lag when working through the cloud and also through the LAN.5. The icons for sensitivity (more or less) are wrong and confusing. UX design = FAIL!6. They use Flash and you must go through hoops to be able to see video in your browser. Who in their right minds would still use Flash instead of HTML 5 in 2018? Almost all modern browsers block FLASH by default. Was about to buy the Arlo Baby and another Arlo for monitoring but, in the last minute, I decided to just buy one to test it out first. Thank God for that.Edit.The camera managed to reset and restart itself after a few hours, so I am upgrading my rating to 2 stars because of that.Edit 2018.07.16Camera is behaving okay in the last days. I could give it a 2.5 if possible.Still, the FLASH dependency, the crude permission settings and the inaccurate sensors, are things that need to be fixed. 2
