Description

  • A great surge protector to protect your life, equipment and even your home from the hit
  • High quality construction, reliable Wide-Band Performance from DC ~ 3 GHz,very Low RF Insertion Loss less than 0.2dB
  • UHF PL-259 Male to SO 239 Female adapter with ground screw connection for easy install
  • Run a piece of heavy gauge copper wire (8 or 10 gauge) from the grounding screw on the side of the arrestor to a 3 foot minimum length grounding rod driven into the ground
  • Arresters should be installed as close as possible to the equipment to be protected, often at the point where the coax cable enters the building. They can also be installed near the antenna for additional protection

Customer Reviews

Good quality.Good quality, good price.5Ham guy measures these - and they're good!I had been looking for a pair of lightning arrestors for a new amateur radio and antenna install, and wanted ones that had enough thread depth and an integrated nut to allow me to bulkhead mount them through a wide copper strip that leads to the 3 ground rods I'm installing. These appeared to fit the bill, were not expensive and had the nice option of screwing directly ON A MACHINED FLAT on the side of the housing (not a radius) just in case I needed to. I took a chance and bought two. They arrived fast (Amazon Prime) but I noticed one had a slightly bent male pin. As soon as I could, I threw them on our calibrated Agilent 5071C Network Analyzer. Well, Batman, surprise, surprise, surprise they both measure well, and could be used at frequencies well above what a SO239/259 connector should ever be used on. Here's what I measured for HF performance, with a full 2-port cal made using a valid calibrated Agilent OSL kit:MHZ SWR 1:x Loss, thru, dB3.5 1.1566 -0.144114 1.1079 -0.104921 1.0562 -0.061128 1.0389 -0.027750 1.0716 -0.0331For HF, if these trigger properly, I have no qualms about these at all. I have no way of confirming what will happen (and at what voltage) during a strike or nearby miss, so I have to trust that the pill insert is up to snuff but the performance and insertion loss up to HF is fine. You never really know with imported accessories just what you are getting, but the fit, finish, SWR and loss on these all look great and I can recommend them.Above 50 MHz they performed very well too, at least up to the 2m band, above which they still measured usable to at least 1GHz: (I suspect the body has been engineered for Type N connections and the PL/SO types where simply threaded on instead.) I did not take data above 3GHz, as this type of connector is not used that high.MHZ SWR 1:x55 1.0658145 1.1658445 1.3968800 1.26381000 1.2716Most will know the old PL259/SO239 standard is not considered good above 350MHz, so these results surprised me - enough to go back and verify the readings with the 50ohm Cal load and then again using a dummy through standard of similar length comprised of Type N barrels and SO/PL adapters stacked up to a similar length. All good here, folks. These will be used with my new Alpha Delta DXCC, new Yaesu FT-450D and a re-purposed Comet 5/8 wave for 2m on a ground plane kit. Admittedly, engineering a really good grounding system has cost probably me more than the antennas did, but I ll sleep better for it, and I ll sleep better knowing my inexpensive $18 arrestors are not impacting the station performance!5... The ground lug doesn't appear suitable for diverting a lightning strike. I don't trust it for that important job.2Fit and finish on these is excellent. Going to buy moreReal (and replaceable) gas tube in these, unlike the cheap spark-gap ones. Fit and finish on these is excellent. Going to buy more. Thanks!5Lightening protectionWell made and appears very durable. It's specs indicate it can handle far more power than most other arrestors. Best of all my SWR actually dropped some with this arrestor as compared to a coupler it replaced. Install a significant grounding rod, so this arrestor can protect your equipment and your home!5Keep lookingNot the best2Came broken. Before using this "arrestor" I tested continuity on the center pin to verify a circuit. It was open. The only thing it was arresting was the RF. Don't waste your money.1Good productItem as described. Fast shipping.5Poor Design or Poor Assembly?Poor design or poor assembly? Hard to say but, this device fell to pieces in my hands as I was installing it. Upon opening the package it came in, I immediately noticed that the male conductor on the PL-259 end and the female sleeve on the the SO-239 end were not parallel to the body of the barrel assembly. However, I attempted installation on the PL end and it would not go in more than half way. Upon removal, the entire contents of barrel came apart and the female sleeve fell out of the SO-239 insulator. I could then see that both halves of the brass center conductor were bent and apparently broken during original assembly. It appears that the set screw on the side holding the gas discharge cylinder in place had been driven into the barrel too far, thus causing the bending and misalignment I had noticed. I am returning this for a refund rather than a replacement since I am not confident that they are assembled properly.1Good ProtectionThey are just shocking.5
