Flies and insects are fascinating. Simple to use. Getting a small plastic petri dish to contain samples, it's a lot easier! Downside = flimsy build quality (hence 4 stars), but adequate for kids who look after their stuff.4awesome productThis was one of the best Christmas gifts I gave. We looked at allot of things including spiders, sinks bugs, fly, jewelry, stones, rocks, ...really works well. We could see things not visible to the naked eye. It made the kids really excited about science. It magnified the bus to show details we never saw.5Five Starsmy son the student loves it550X not usable with glassesThe 50x magnification (25x eyepieces plus 2x objectives) of this scope has such a narrow field of view that it cannot be viewed with my glasses on. With glasses off and eye guards on, it works, though it takes some getting used to (you have to press your eyes to the eye guards to see 50X).20X is perfectly fine with glasses on, as its field of view is significantly wider and deeper.This is not surprising (as width and depth of view always decrease with higher magnification), but still worth it to keep in mind. Better 25x eyepieces would have offered better viewing experiences.At 20x with help of the included LED light, you can clearly see an enlarged 3D image of a lady bug. Depth of view at 20x is enough for lady bug (or any insect of same of less thickness). 20x or 50x also works well for a small ant.Diameter of the eyepieces are 23 mm. If you need 10X (and wider and deeper view), you can buy a pair of 23 mm 5X eyepieces to use with this scope.Build quality is not bad for the price. I saw exposed circuit boards in the scope's battery compartment and loose/cheap plastic parts. Main body of this scope is light and made of plastic. However optics are decent enough (though, again, 25x eyepieces could use a wider view).3Nice first scope for kidsThis was a Christmas present for the kids to mess around with and hopefully get interested in science. Some reviewers seem disappointed that this is not a serious optical instrument. At this price point, it is not intended to be. It also is not a quite a toy, the quality is a little better than that. It is light, portable and fairly durable. I would buy it again.5Works great.Scope works great. Does what it's designed to do. When I put on the 50X eyepieces, the quality was so poor that I could see more with the 20X. If I were to buy again, I would have gotten something to hook up to the computer for the same price that gives you a greater zoom that everyone can see at once.2Great for kids. Portable and inexpensive but lacks the qualities that could make it a stand in for an expensive binocular scope. 4
