Customer Reviews

Five Stars It's solid 5Do not buy!!!! Zero starsI really needed this to work in the field.Total waste of my time.No instructions included.I m totally pissed.Stay away!!!!! 1Good home or shop scope This is a nice, serviceable microscope for the home. If you get the one with the three lenses it will have much more usefulness by everyone. Remember, a microscope is a precision instrument requiring high levels of quality to really be what it is supposed to be. Therefore when you pay $100 or less for a microscope you need to understand it will not be able to match those instruments costing many times as much. With that being said, I think for the price, this is a marvelous item. It truly does magnify to higher and higher levels as you cycle through the lenses. Is the 100X really 100 mag for real? Probably not, but so what. If it is 80x is that a deal breaker? It magnifies a LOT, let that just be the final word. The construction is solid and the case is a good one which the instrument should be kept in when not using. My complaints are these: The focusing knob is too small. The gear ratio on the knob changes the focal length too rapidly and makes it harder to dial in the exact focus you want. It does NOT make it impossible. Also, the flashlight provided is not LED and throws rings and shadows like a 1970's flashlight. Plus it is a large and awkward affair. A smaller, more discreet and more powerful lamp using smooth LED illumination would be preferred. The good news is you can remove the whole thing and use your own light is you want.Besides these things, I would have to give this scope overall good marks. It will definitely serve the purpose it was made for which is mechanical shop, home workshop, home education and general home use. You won't cure cancer with it, but you will be able to extend your capabilities and accomplish more with its convenient form factor and strong, clear magnification. I have it and am glad. i do recommend. 4Versatile and with good optics Optically excellent mini microscope that I would call a field microscope. Quite similar to many old brass 19th century through pre WW1 or so field microscopes but long enough so it takes standard 23mm diameter eyepieces and DIN thread objectives. I bought the H2510 version with three objectives, allowing 20X, 50X and 100X power but add a 15X eyepiece to make the powers 30X, 75X and 150X. A 5X eyepiece lowers powers to 10x, 25X and 50X. Add a 4mm objective for different powers so the unit is quite versatile. If need more illumination there are a number of LED Pen lights that should be adaptable which are much brighter than the stock incandescent bulb pen light. I do have the advantage of being a hobbyist machinist though as far as accessories adaptation goes. The manual is poor in that it does not mention some items. No mention that the tool needed for loosening the eyepiece retention lock screw is a 0.035" or 0.9mm Allen hex wrench, a relatively rare size not included in most sets. Set-up and use could be clearer including objective swapping and adjustments to eliminate potential damage to objectives from use of the focus travel stop adjustment. 5Nice portable microscope Easy to take in the field, also adaptable to my camera, and standard size accessories as oculars without a scale.Having a resarch microscope I can use all accessories for fun super macro or photomicrography in the field!!Love this very reasonably priced field Microscope!!Albert E 4Good quality for the money. Good:Portable.Built in light works very well with 50 and 20 power objectives. The LED light pieces fit together with quality thumbscrews and an end wrench.Quality optics.Standard digital cameras can replace the eyepiece, will screw right on.Has adjustable lock to prevent focusing too close (where the objective would otherwise touch the ground).Good case with foam padding for all the pieces (light, 2 spare eyepieces, light, light holder assembly, end wrench (for light mount). Not so good:Only a course focus, no fine, but it is quite sufficient as it not real course. You have to unscrew and rescrew objective on, no turret to flip to another power. No clips to hold a standard 1x4 slides, you would need round glass pieces to make a slideto fit inside the 2" (inside diamter) ring base. But in my experience this is not necessary becausesitting the scope on a regular 1x4 slide will only tilt the scope forward a tiny bit and this hasno significant affect on the image or stability of the scope. This tilt is because the penlight has weight. The base has a thin rubber ring on the bottom, no metal will touch the glass. A glass slide is only about .050" whichis only half way in between 1/32 and 1/16 of an inch. So the tilt is only a tiny bit. The scope will be solid andstable (the scope is heavy) and the image will be stationary, not jittery. The light is a bit dim when on the highest power (100x), plenty of light for 20 and 50.The snap closure on the outside of the carry case is weak. I use a #170 rubber band instead. The 2 objectives that are not mounted are stored in excellent storage vials that havethreads to screw the objectives inside of them. And a screw on lid covers everything: dust free.-----A standard headlamp or handheld LED penlight to help out on 100 power is handy...and that will give good light, even if hand held.If using another (second) LED penlight, a couple wooden clothespins will work for a nifty stand to hold it.This will free both hands for (for instance) drawing images for a notebook of what you are viewing.A number 107 rubber band will serve to hold the outer case closed even better than the weak snap.#104 size of rubber bands are quite handy for a million uses around the house. Amazon sells them cheap.I use some baggies (e.g. common sandwich size ziplock) and small (#82 or #62) rubber bands to go around thebody and the eyepieces (dust protection). And another (2 gallon size) ziplock baggie to cover the whole storage box.I doubt you can find another portable this good for anything near the price. It is not professional quality, but is decent for the hobbyist. Especially good optics. 5Four Stars no other 4Five Stars It's good go see small size parts and PCB milling check. 5
