Customer Reviews

UPGRADING THE FIRMWARE can render some units useless. I had the amped up and running. The range wasn't great so before I moved the unit experimenting with placement I decided to upgrade the firmware. The update killed it. It would no longer recognize the amped SSID and would not allow me to connect to setup.ampedwireless or the 192.168.1.240. I also tried using the new IP # assigned the unit. After I typed in the 192...xxx # it would flash the setup screen by then immediately take me to the "internet explorer cannot display the webpage". Amped concierge, Albert, sent me the old firmware and we got the unit working again. At this point I give it 3 stars. The output signal does not live up to the hype. It is placed where it can pick up a strong signal from my router (80%) I am trying to broadcast to my other building about 150' from the unit. Even with a clean line of sight the signal is weak at the other building. I still have to move it around to see if placing it in another area helps but so far I'm not thrilled. 3Laughable marketing. + Unreliable connection. = Amped Wireless ***********UPDATE***********I figured I'd give it another try and spoke with support after trying multiple times to establish a solid/reliable/consistent/persistent connection. These products are poorly marketed as something they are not. At 600-700 ft you might have a decent signal strength but forget about having a connection speed worth using. At the supposed 1.5 mile range they are claiming I'm going to assume that the connection speed would be less than a 56k dial-up modem. Amped Wireless should be sued for false advertising. If you look at all of their marketing material(s) including the product boxes they show a minimal product setup over the 1.5 mile range. None of their provided documentation outlines the number of products that must be purchased in order for this to work. Also for anyone thinking of having any usable speed you'll likely be faced with approx. 30% of your original speed at a distance of 600-700 ft. Beyond that distance you're better off using your cell phone as a mobile hotspot.STAY FAR AWAY from all of their products or else be faced with disappointment.****************************Laughable and outlandish marketing claims of an extended wireless network up to 1.5 miles.I took a chance and went all in which included buying the AP600EX + A8EX (external antenna) to be used with SR600EX + AD14EX (external antenna). I then purchased an additional SR600EX + AD14EX which would be used approximately 600-700ft away to fully extend my wireless range. After spending countless hours with setup, upgrading firmware, applying the external antenna, and antenna adjustments I decided that it was nothing more than false advertising.I would typically find a signal strength of between 79-91% which is well within their recommended range but I could never get a consistent/persistent connection. It would disconnect/connect every minute or less. When it did connect, for a full minute, it worked well, however, that was a rarity. The setup had minor obstructions from a few bushes but I made sure that line of sight was optimal. The building was approximately 600-700ft and I used an open window to line up the external antenna with only a window screen as a potential obstruction. So essentially each SR600EX + AD14EX setup should be able to cover half of the distance needed. Unfortunately, poorly designed inferior products are nothing more than paper weights.Sadly they will continue to claim 1.5 mile range but what they don't tell consumers that if you want to actually USE your wireless connection at an extended range it would require a setup of SR600EX + AD14EX connection every 50 FT without obstruction. 1A Third Product Required to Set Up Outbuilding Repeated Network In order to work as advertised, e.g., providing a network in an outbuilding by line of sight connection with an access point in the main building, a third device is required: a second access point. This is true because no wifi device in the out building would be able to connect to the repeated network unless it, too, was in the line of sight. I saw nothing in the advertisements or even in the instructions that made this clear and found it out only by calling the company. (They responded quickly.) Because this is true, the total costs for getting a reliable repeated network in an outbuilding goes up to about three hundred and sixty dollars, fine if you are a business I suppose, but far too much for those of us who are mostly looking for convenience. I returned the product. The one star is not for the quality of the products -- they may be fine -- but for not being clear about what is required to use it in this rather ordinary way. 1This Repeater is a super star, I have used this repeater in one of the configuration which only this router can perform in the market. its at about 2 houses away from hotspot and this repeater can catch the hotspot signal and amplify it where as any other wireless devices can not catch any long distance hotspot signal this one does and amplifies it which is amazing and make a new SSID or new wireless network out of it . as the inbuilt didirection antenna which works great and gives an very strong repeated signal in both the direction front facing the most where as the back good enough like an normal house wifi router which worked out great for us if it was not this router i would had to live without internet in my current farm house .which does not have any communication accessibility .Pros.Very Long Range, Bi directional Antenna.Amplifies existing hotspot or wifi signal which is located at a distanceWeather proof design .Best for out door use.Simple to setup .Con not suitable for point to point wireless range extender but amped wireless has other devices for that this one does not do that .can only be used for repeating existing wifi signalnot suitable for indoor use .very plastic feel , hope it lasts long 5DO NOT BUY - REPEAT - DO NOT BUY Customer service is wonderful. Product is dog crap. Spent TWO FULL FRUSTRATING days attempting to get a point to point system to work 100 feet. I used exactly what they recommended AP 600EX and SR 600EX. Yes, they say it works up to 1.5 miles (bull crap). I had it working decently at 8 feet. However, at 50 feet, I had 69% signal strength with NOTHING blocking the two receivers. I had to call NUMEROUS times and speak to folks that were friendly and helpful, but the product just sucks and feels cheap. We are going with several Ubiquiti Pico Stations. Don't make the mistake I did - even after reading the bad reviews, I thought I was smarter than the other folks. Go somewhere else. 1Peice of junk (at least this particular one). Installed early Nov, 2015. Worked ok for about two weeks. Then became intermittent; would not stay connected; would not stay connected but would reconnect after reset or power down/restart. Now (12/13/2015) does not connect at all. In some cases, two different computers indicate that there is no connection when RJ 45 cable is connected. Tried several cables connected to both the unit itself and the wan port on the POE connector. Both computers work with my other routers. Too late to return to Amazon. Can only get fixed if I ship to manufacturer. 1We then proceeded to ride like the wind to the nearest UPS drop location and ... Tried it on two different networks, did not work. I made the mistake of just assuming it would work, and did a full installation (picture attached), then tried to get it to work. Tried for about 2 hours before i got so mad i flung myself off the roof and onto an unsuspecting equestrian. We then proceeded to ride like the wind to the nearest UPS drop location and returned it. The horses name was Strider. This thing would be great if it worked! Thanks for wasting my time, A$$H013$!! >:[ 1Did not extend wireless network range. Big cost, no improvement. Relatively easy set up and to integrate into a WPA2 secure network. The problem is that the extender sees wireless network signal strength at or below 65% even when located close to the wireless source. Move the extender even short distances from the wireless signal source and the signal deteriorates at the extender very quickly. Locating the extender 15 - 20 feet from a wireless source and the extender sees the same wireless signal at 55% strength. The extender manufacturer Recommends a source wireless signal strength of 75% as a minimum.I purchased this product to extend the range of my existing wireless network to an out building 40' away. With the extender within 2 or 3 feet from the wireless signal source, and pointing line of sight to the out building, the extender's signal strength is 20% or less and not accessible from the building. In fact, the signal from the original wireless network, without the extender, is 60% at the building.I am not sure how this is an outdoor use product. The small plastic cover that goes over power and cat connectors pops on with no weather seal and the circuits under the cover are all exposed. The power source in clearly an indoor item as is the junction that connects power to the extender.Watch your purchase and return dates. I finally had time to install today and found it did not work. Unfortunately, I purchased on January 26th, today is the Feb 28th so the item is listed by Amazon as non-returnable because it is 2 days outside of the 30 day return period. My fault. 2Fool Me once, shame on you... As per Amped Wireless' recommendation, I purchased the AP600EX and the SR600EX together, for the purpose of delivering a wi-fi signal to an outbuilding approximately 300 feet from my home. I have another Amped product, a low-powered wireless repeater for indoors, which has been a little flaky and difficult to keep working consistently over the years, but I thought I'd give Amped another chance since this AP/SR combination sounded like a good system. Fool me twice, shame on me... this system worked for less than 24 hours before the AP600EX would not communicate via wired or wireless connection, and while it's wireless signal appeared to be visible to computers and other devices, it was unusable. The AP600EX, mounted in the outbuilding, initially was able to be configured to utilize the SR600EX's signal, but once the AP600EX stopped talking, the SR was basically useless too. I tried to get the SR600EX to use the signal put out by my wireless router, but to no avail. I called Amped, and was on hold for 30 minutes in the automated system, no human ever picked up. I sent an e-mail which went unanswered. The only one winning in this purchase is UPS. Both devices are en route back to Amazon. 1should be perfect for a device like this) First I must say that I bought this as an open box (it had been returned to Amazon by another customer), so maybe the unit was defective. That being said, it would connect only to WiFi sources that were so strong that I could connect to them with my smartphone and notebook. Sometimes, my phone would connect (and browse the web) but this device would not, because the signal was not strong enough (if it was strong enough to my phone, should be perfect for a device like this). For exemple: if I went outside I could connect to the WiFi router with my phone. But if I placed the device outside, to relay the signal to my room, the device would not connect to a signal that my phone would easily pick up (it showed up, but was deemed too weak, at 45%). So, unless this unit itself is defective, it doesn't work. 1
