Customer Reviews

Great image quality, poor night vision I like these little bullet cameras. Easy to install, great image quality, all metal except for the mount I think. The night vision was not up to par. It says in the description 98 feet, but it was more like 10 feet. That's the only thing I didn't like. Oh and the mount was a little tricky to get right. If you don't have it positioned correctly when you mount it, it might be a little bit off. Have someone looking at the image on the monitor when you mount it so it goes just right. Great image quality though. What you would expect of 1080p. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because one of them lasted less than 24 hours before it went dead. I'm going to send it back and give it another try. But that means climbing up a ladder and taking it down. Not happy about that. I'll update this review once I get the replacement in. As for the mode switch, the sticker that comes attached to the camera cable says to set it another way as compared to the the video that's on Amazon at the top of the page along with the pics. The sticker that comes attached is wrong and the video is right. Poor QA/QC.Update: After reinstalling the replacement, it seems to work fine so far. Excellent image quality, night vision NOT 98ft. I'd say about 20ft. Max. But great image for the price. They seem to have a fair amountThat go dead after only a short time. I'm using flood lights at night so it stays in color/ day mode. I'd say take your chances and buy this camera taking into account what the failure rate is. Recommened. 4Good camera. Clear picture Good camera. Clear picture. I tried a bunch of other dome cameras and returned them all and bought another one of these. 5Best DVR with No need for Wifi to cameras. I bought this as an upgrade to my zmodo 960H system. I spent much time researching and wanted a DVR which was not POE or WiFi. I even bought and returned two others. An Elec and a Zosi. The setup on those was only barcode and not IP. And, the phone app was not so great. This Amcrest AMDV10818 may be the last of it's kind, with so much focus on WiFi. I just set it up so, I don's have all the answers. For instance, I'm not quite sure why there is a border around one of the cameras. (see pic camera 3). I've added two HD pics and one 960H pic so you can see the obvious difference. Also, I only have a VGA monitor so, I'll need to get a monitor with HDMI input to appreciate the video. However, you can see a better picture on the channels I have the cameras installed and, you can see the HD picture on your cell phone app. 4Seamless addition to 8-channel DVR system This became the 8th camera in our 8-channel DVR system, purchased separately from Amcrest. It's just as clear as the 1080p bullet cameras and has essentially the same functionality but with a different look and footprint. The main difference is that the dome camera allows you to adjust the view by rotating the lens housing. With a bullet camera, you loosen a screw, adjust the camera, and then tighten the screw to maintain the view. 5IR flickers. I ordered two of the white cameras. I own a black one that I bought a year ago that works great. Evidently they changed the IR lights inside it, so it needs a high power cable to power the camera. They work great in daytime but the IR flickers at night. Buying a new dedicated power supply with a 1 Amp connection per camera did not solve the problem. I also tried a different cable with the same problem. If you look at the difference between the models. You will see a different IR setup between the models. The ones with a straight ring around the edge have the IR problem is what I am guessing as my other one camera works great and the IR setup is different.Changing my review! I see that Amcrest has replied which is nice but never called him. Another user in this review made me think. He mentioned he had to run dedicated power he had his power cord plugged 6 foot away... My 100 ft runs of pre-made cable were junk and sure enough, IR would turn on with a shorter run. I bought a 25 foot cable (pre-made) that seemed to be a little higher quality and that worked as well.None that I saw that were premade listed the AWG thickness. I guessed at the AWG thickness (24 AWG, 1 AMP @ 12V) and ran it through a calculator. The difference between a 100 ft run (43% voltage drop) and a 25 ft run (10% voltage drop) was more than I would have thought. These new cameras cannot handle it but I cannot really fault them for upgrading the IR so I am only taking off once star. I would be very hesitant if you're running long runs without good rated AWG cable for the power run. 4Amcrest has sent me a dozen emails asking me to review their product so here goes... I purchased two of these dome cameras ($60) on Feb. 28th 2018 along with a $120 Amcrest DVR, a $90 HD, $30 in cables and a $20 Amcrest power supply. About $300 total. This was to replace a $65 system that had it's DVR die after 6 months. On April 4th I woke up to a popup message saying "Camera 1 resolution has changed." or something to that effect. I go into the menu and on that camera the 1920x1080, 960x1080 & 1280x720 resolutions are gone as an option. The camera is on 960H (960x480) mode now and gives me 5 other choices of obscure resolutions (704x480, 352x480, 704x240, 352x240 & 176x120).I called in to technical support and the tech asked some questions and then ask for permission to access my laptop that isn't connected to my security system. I agreed. She downloaded a program and took remote control of my personal computer. I have no clue why they can't access the DVR itself since it has a direct internet connection.I know why it happened and how but it still felt pretty violating since I've never used my computer to access the security system. I won't let that happen again.Anyways...the tech told me I would have to climb out onto the 2nd story roof and swap the two cameras to see if it is the DVR or camera. I took my 50 year old butt up the ladder and across the rooftop and switched them. The bad camera at first showed 1080p again and then another popup and back to 960H.Was told to call back afterwards and I can send the camera back for a replacement. Didn't find out if I have to pay shipping but we'll see. In the meantime I am without a camera for the parking lot.Suppose I'll have to buy a spare camera for the next time this happens. But that kinda defeats the purpose of my purchase since I'll be paying more for the piecemeal approach I took and the cost of a whole system purchased together. Lesson learned.Saddest thing is that the $65 system I purchased had wonderful cameras (four of them) with better night-vision and were workhorses. This camera at $30 each lasted 34 days... 1Great Camera...but Beware (updated rating) Overall good video, but beware of loss of video or cycling caused by a voltage drop when it goes into IR night mode. If the camera is a good distance from the DVR/server, and/or if you are using "cheap" (small gauge) camera wiring to the DVR/server, the camera may display this problem. I had two that were "bad" for this reason. Because this camera needs 12 volts to operate properly, not much less, you must calculate the voltage drop over the wire and then put whatever voltage is needed at the input to compensate for the drop. There are wire loss calculators on the internet. In my case I needed a 14v input to compensate for the wire loss. The problem/risk is that the camera draws much more current in the night mode than in the day mode, thus applying a higher voltage to achieve 12 volts at the camera at night will actually provide a higher voltage during the day when the IR LEDS are not on. This provides a camera burn out risk. Another option is to remove the two torx screws holding the camera halfs together and disable the IR LEDs while leaving the photocell enabled. Have to cut two circuit board traces. This allows the camera to change to night (B/W) mode when it is dark (camera sensitivity better) but without the LEDs (thus no extra current) and then switch back to color mode during the day. Obviously, this voids the warranty, but you will have a workable camera. 1Affordable High Def Camera Outstanding high def cameras and a really affordable price. If you need extra cameras to add to your Amcrest system, these work perfectly. Don't forget to buy the wire and the power unit. I bought three to bring my system up to 9 active cameras with 2 standby's. The wide angle view and high def picture is astounding. Night vision is good but tends to be speckled more than other camera systems but still really good. 5Amcrest Full HD 1080P Camera The camera I received was determined to be defective by Amazon Support. The camera would not switch out of BW mode. I will say though that the Black and White video was sharp. In order to test the camera, you have to download an App. I would still recommend this camera due the sharpness of the BW picture. I wish I could have seen it in color. Since I was unable to see the quality of live color video, I opt to purchase a different brand of camera. Amazon has since refunded my expense. 3Seems to be a great camera at reasonable price. 1080p is NICE! Only time will tell how long these cameras will last, but the image quality is great. Daytime images are colorful and very crisp. The nightvision is so-so. The 1080p camera has a different arrangement of LEDs compared to the 720p cameras I have. There is a huge washed out hot spot of infrared light in the middle of the image at night. The 720p cameras seem to have much better diffusion of infrared light. But 1080p - Wow! What a huge huge huge difference in clarity over the old analog cameras I upgraded from. The 720p cameras are nice, but 1080p is worth the extra money if you can swing it. 4
