    Hit and miss I gave it three stars in an average, I give the stones a 5 star rating and the holder/jig a 1 star rating. The diamond stones are awesome and lasted along time. The jig is junk or just not my style. I don't like it at all. Awesome idea just piss poor execution. 3great product but product are great, as I have used other DMT items, this kit fell short, will almost. the green dmt stone's grit is all but gone after a bit of use, where as the blue and red are what they should be. It may be just a defective item (green fine). hope DMT will replace the green one. 4The only way to sharpen a knife for those without skills I've never been happy with the sharpness of my knives after sharpening them until I bought this set. Now, I can get knives sharp enough to shave my arm hair. I also recommend a cheap leather strop. If you use the strop on a regular basis, you won't need to sharpen you knives as often. I also use these stones to tune my skis. The angle guide makes my feel more confident that I am keeping the same angle on every stroke. 5Stones great, holder not so great Diamond stones work well. Holder does not hold even small knifes well. Used them with a lanskey holder and they work fine. Box is nice to keep things all together. 4Faster and more convenient than lansky Bought this one and cheapest lansky with 3 hones to compare, this one is better in everything (I didn't try dmt plastic knife holder so far but I don't think it will cause any problem if you don't overtighten it), would give it 5 stars if it didn't come in cracked box, even considering the fact lansky costed 2.5 times less 4One Star Broke during first use. Replacement received broken in same location. Buyer beware. 1Poor design, awkward to use. Works well, the preset angles are pretty close, within a degree or two. I do however wish that there was an option to manually set the angle instead of just using the preset angles.Edit: Well not that I've used this for a short while I've dropped the star rating by one star and am adding the following:I've already ordered a KME sharpening system to replace this one for most of my sharpening, this one will be relegated to travel and those times when I need something smaller.I've found this awkward to use primarily because of the crappy angle adjustment with the poorly designed plastic adjustment. Also way the hones mount in the hone carrier is a poor design, I should have to bang the thing on the table to remove them.All in all purchasing was a poor decision on my part based primarily on price and that was a big mistake that I'm now going to have to pay for. 2This actually works well on S90V If your like me you bought higher quality EDC because you tired of always having to sharpen due to use everyday use. So you commit to buying that Spyderco or Benchmade S90V premium blade and it s great but you can t help yourself so you attempt to touch it up with the good old Spyderco Sharpmaker since it worked so well with other knifes made of say S30V should work right. You look online and find statements like it ll work on S90V just a little more time. This however IMO is complete BS it s just too hard. Then you buy the Spyderco Diamond triangles for $50 but it s too much made for changing profiles also IMO S90V would wear it out and quick. So you go back online to look for another way and you find DMTs solution so out of desperation you buy it and realize within minutes you have a made a very wise choice cause they work my Military and Osborne are better than when I received them Brand new. I m not that great at sharpening so after spending a lot for these S90V I can now actually get them right instead of being mad at myself for buying them Thanks DMT 5Simple to use and good results for sharpening I have more sharpeners and stones then I know what to do with, so I added one more. Why? Because the others either took off steel with carbide and then ceramic; carbide alone; used oil or water but required some prep time (soaking); or were cumbersome to use. This DMT kit is self-contained in a small footprint with three available stones (more available) and the angles are adjustable by you. That means repeatability and precision with each sharpening. That also means quick sharpening each time. This is just the ticket for those of us with lots of sharp instruments in the kitchen and tool boxes. I hate a dull knife and now have no excuses. 5Pretty good. Stones are great, and I have nothing bad to say about them. I ordered the XX coarse for re-beveling; it's a beast, and can grind metal away at an alarming rate. The coarse is good when you've got chips in the edge and need a little extra bite, but I usually only use the fine and then the X fine for sharpening. I can get a nice hazy mirror finish before hitting the strop just with this kit.Better for medium sized blades rather than the biggest/smallest knives. I have problems sharpening my Old Timer pen knife and my Opinel number 6 because the blades are so thin that the guide rod hits the clamp on the 17 degree angle. Also has trouble with chef's knives over 5 or 6 inches simply because of physics, which is a design limitation more than a flaw.Another issue is a shared problem with most guided systems that clamp the blade: Full flat grind blades like the Tenacious or Opinels will not seat properly, and will sharpen unevenly without some extra attention. I solved this somewhat by using some duct tape on the clamped area and paying extra close attention to the blade's position while I'm sharpening.Other than the above issues, it's been a great system. I'm able to get a shaving edge every time, on almost any of my medium sized knives. It isn't idiot proof, though, so be warned that you'll still have to have some understanding of what you're trying to do (build up a burr, then fold it over). Works best on knives with a wider blade and a squared off spine. 4
