Customer Reviews

BLACK and WHITE I have the Oso Negro, which I will give to my son, who has been asking for it. The Oso Blanco is made of the same materials as the Oso Negro, a Cr-Mo-Va stainless steel. Both knives surpass my expectations, they are extremely rugged. I know how to sharpen knives, and this knife will be sharpened to a razor sharpness like my Oso Negro, which has kept its edge for more than a year. I moved back to my farm, and the Oso Blanco will be a close companion. 5just as good as expected excellent all around knife. Bought one twenty years ago in europe as a present to my brother. This one is my present! 5Review The knife had a great expensive feel to it and was ber sharp unfortunately the scales Are rough on the hands and the "full tang blade" extends to the hilt by a welded rod and is not full tang other then that it's a great knife 2Excellent Survival Knife! I have an original Aitor "Cuchillo de Monte" (Knife of the Mountains) Spanish Military Knife which I purchased over 30 years ago and this is still my primary fishing, hunting and survival knife today. Living in Colorado I have used this knife to skin 6" Brookie trout, catfish, deer, elk and bear.In my opinion this is the best survival knife in the world (but then you've heard that before). I have mine lashed upside down to my left military H-Harness (shoulder strap) for a right hand draw. What I want you to know from first hand experience is that this is by far the absolute best survival knife I have ever owned. Period! This knife is perfect from butt to tip.I have used this knife to gut pan size trout and skin every animal up to and including the size of an elk. Even when my hands were dripping with warm blood, guts and fat the handle of this knife has a 100% sure grip. The handle fits your hand perfectly and feels natural. The guard is in the perfect location and at the perfect angle. The spine is heavy and strong with a true functioning saw blade on the top that really works. I have used it to saw through deer and elk bone pelvis as well as small tree branches. The blade will sharpen to a keen edge and holds it's edge for a long, long time. It can easily be sharpened to shave the hair off your arm. Because the blade is curved, it requires a round or semi-round file (or stone) to sharpen it. That is why I carry a round pencil file. The knife always held the edge for many outings before more sharpening was required. The size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. It is perfectly balanced for the design and feels natural. Mine also has a hole in the ricasso which could be used to run some 550 Parachute Cord through to bind it to a pole to make a spear. The sheath is very well made and very versatile. I carry mine upside down and it has never come out even when thrashing through heavy brush. It is also easily accessible with either hand. The sheath holds the knife secure but is easy to release for quick, self-defense against man or beast.Since the original Cuchillo de Monte now a collector's item, they are selling from $150.00 all the way up to $500.00 for the original Spanish Special Forces Knife.Aitor no longer makes the original "Cuchillo de Monte", but they make an improved version called the "Oso Negro" and the "Oso Blanco". They told me it is identical except that it has improved saw teeth which are supposed to be much better than the old teeth. Aitor is a great, Old World Company and I trust that they are correct. Like every good product it has been copied with cheap imitations. Beware look-alike copy cats. From what I can see, the Aitor Oso Negro and Oso Blanco is the same knife except for color and the saw teeth. If you are ever going to take my adivce on anything, go buy this knife! You will love it.Someday I plan to buy a couple more of these just to have on hand (even though I have not needed a second one for 30 years). I am also going to try their big, "Aitor NATO Bowie Magnum Belt Knife". If it is only 1/2 as good as the Cuchillo de Monte I will love it and so will you.Do not be afraid to invest in the Oso Negro, the Oso Blanco or the Nato and Nato Magnum versions. You will be impressed.Good luck!Mark from ColoradoPS - I have also handled their so-called `jungle knife' with the hollow handle, built in compass, etc. and I was NOT impressed. The `Rambo' knives are just that.......... Rambo knives, and they are not much good in the woods. 5Great knife! Taken to razor sharp 25degrees, the sae is great, it can batone, feather and still hold a shaving sharp edge. Buyer beware it is not a full tang it has a bolt adjuster but so far after a good dose of use and abuse haven t had to retighten the screw. For an all around woods knife you can t go wrong with this one 5Poor quality control from Aitor Pielcu poor quality control from Aitor PIELCUThis knife is the last man purchase of the new house Aitor PIELCU , the quality is bad , broke the second machete I gave a wood , all component parts were watered by the ground, the thread dela pin that holds the knife by means of a nut on the handle, was very short , so that only two threads came to maintain contact , should attach a soldier centimeter screw to repair and use the same 2Five Stars excelente! 5Beautiful, worth the money for the value. This knife is beautiful, nicely weighted and sharp out of the package. Fits nicely in a womans hand as well as a males. As a survival knife, I don't think you would need anything other than a small knife for small work. Gave 4 stars as the one thing I didn't like was the case as the clasp that holds the knife in can easily slip out and the knife can come lose. Very dangerous due to the size and partial double edge on this knife. I can get another sheath for it though. It might interest you to know (since none of the internet pictures show the butt of the knife...this is not a full tang, but it is joined from butt to blade by a tension bolt (i guess you call it that) and it can be tightened from the but by a star tool. At least it isnt welded to a hollow handle and in danger of breaking off. All in all its a great knife for the money and unless you are using it everyday of your life, I expect it will last many years of use for camping and occasional nature outings. 4Nice classic for a collection Well made knife for a collection. As a survival or field knife... Now days there are stronger choices out there (full tang and made with better steels and better handle materials). Nice classic though. 5Now that's a knife.... don't go camping without it. 5
