Customer Reviews

Happy gamers in my house!Perfect! This was an amazing find. Made my old X-Rocker chairs work with the Xbox One and my PS4. Thanks!5Finally!!!! Can get back to watching movies at night without bothering anyone...Really wish I could have gotten this a year ago, back in January of last year I upgraded to a Blu-ray player... Sadly the player only supported HDMI output - and only had 1 output to go to the TV. So my RCA wireless headphones didn't hook up to anything, so no late-night movie watching - joys of shared apartment.Friend told me to try this converter, WONDERFUL!!!! Not only can I listen/watch my movies, but because it runs the audio thru the box the TV doesn't even need to be on - for those nights when I just want to listen rather than watch while working on the computer.Hooking it up only took a matter of seconds. The box is small so when not in use can be tucked out of the way behind the player.Video Output: No noticeable degrade in the video to the TV.Audio Output: Well, depends on the headphones. My wireless ones work great as they have their own volume control. Wired headphones (the larger covers full ear style) work ok, volume is a little lower than I like but still very clear. But... ear-buds and the smaller style headphones.... suck with it.... the audio is super low, hard to hear, so some sort of amplifier is required depending on the headphones. Haven't tried the plug in speakers yet to see how the audio is on them.4Works. Solved our problems. UPDATED 5-2-16 - No longer works.I bought this for my Mom's TV as she has an older one without HDMI out and an older external Bose sound system that uses RCA jacks for its input. Using a Roku with digital sound encoding, you must have a unit like this to use an external sound system that does not have HDMI. I plugged the Roku stick into the HDMI in on the box, HDMI out to the TV, RCA cables from this box to the Bose and at first I had it set on 2.1 and the sound would randomly shut off. I switched it to 'pass' and have heard no more complaints so it was a lot cheaper than buying a new TV and sound system.Edit 1.0 - Well, the problems persisted. It got to where sound and video would randomly shut off, go blank, and then come back on repeatedly no matter what setting I used. Eventually we just had to disconnect the box and plug the Roku straight into the TV. I'm not sure why it failed but since it did, my Mother no longer can use any speakers other than the built in speakers on the TV, which are horrible.2Perfect for adapting a Chromecast to an older HDTV or monitor with a DVI input. I had initially bought a VGA adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FHHQW4E/) to adapt the HDMI port from my Chromecast to the VGA port on my older LG TV (DU-42PX12XC), however the EDID information was apparently misinterpreted, and the Chromecast would not display in 720P.I bought the AGPtek HDMI to HDMI adapter, along with this HDMI to DVI cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002CZHN6/), and this optical Toslink/SPDIF cable (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH11H38/), and had immediate success. Not sure if it makes a difference, but setting the audio switch to 5.1 worked fine for me. 5Little gadget with magic wonders that works!!I bought the Apple TV 4 not knowing that it didn't have the digital optical port. I was so disappointed in Apple wasting money on it but did some research & some web site suggested getting this. Not knowing how to hook this up, my husband was able to figure out how to hook up AGPtek HDMI to HDMI, SPDIF, RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter to Apple tv 4 to Bose 321 system to the HD TV & it took less than 15 minutes. This thing works wonders. It is so small & doesn't take a whole lot of space. It's sitting behind the tv doing it's magic. Now I have sound coming thru Bose 321 system because of this little gadget. Thank you!!5Does not workIt looks good - Built well - but does not work for my Samsung 32 inch Space monitor which had limited ports. I wanted to connect to my monitor to Directv box, I tried everything and really wanted it to work . I later on purchased something similar from another manufacturer that was easy to install worked very well. I'm not happy cause i wasted so much time trying to get this convertor it to work.1This Resolved My Cable Box Issue This is an amazing device. I recently had Charter's TV service installed and needed the small HD cable set-top box to be installed on the 1st floor. For two months I struggled with service calls and troubleshooting because I could not get the set-top box to output digital audio from my sound bar. Here is my setup: Projector - HDMI to Set-top - S/PDIF to Sound bar. The charter technicians and I must have tried every setting possible on that Set-top box with no luck. After a little research I found this adapter. When I tested the new setup I treated my Set-top box as if it was the DVD/Blu-Ray player in the provided diagram on the Amazon listing. I treated my projector as the TV. This is the new setup: Sound bar - S/PDIF - to AGPtek adapter / HDMI from Set-top box to HDMI "in" on AGPtek adapter/ HDMI from AGPtek adapter to HDMI "out" on my Projector. Once I changed my Set-top box to output audio in L-PCM mode (which didn't work before) . . .BOOM! I now have digital audio from the Set-top box to my sound bar. This device is worth every penny it sells for. 5Works great with Roku or Firestick.....I have two of these, one on Roku, and one on Firestick. Both work great with old soundbar and older surround sound. Allows for "optical OUT" with cheaper Roku and Firesticks, Your Sound system must have "optical IN," or RCA jack Stereo inputs. Hope this helps!5confusedI have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?2Finally, Surround Sound! This causes a night and day difference when using it with my Raspberry Pi. I have an older receiver which doesn't take HDMI input like my friends newer one does, and unfortunately someone in the TV industry decided that a TV optical sound cable will only output stereo unless the audio is originated on the TV. What this means is if I use the TV built-in Amazon Instant Video, or Netflix, I will get 5.1 surround sound, but if I have an HDMI input the output from the optical sound cable will only be stereo. Now bring in the AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF extractor. I plug the Pi's HDMI into this, then the output HDMI into the TV. I then plug the optical cable into my receiver and the APGtek and it splits the audio and video and gives me 5.1 surround sound on my stereo. My only gripe would be that my stereo could go up to 9.2 if I had enough speakers, but my wife would probably go crazy.5Shortcomings but not fatal ones. This may be long-winded but hopefully useful to someone considering it. Bottom line is it has shortcomings but not fatal ones for me. As another reviewer pointed out it cannot drive long HDMI cables. This is no problem for my original intended use, which is to feed HDMI video from an iPad via a "lightning to HDMI" adapter to one input of a 5 input switcher. It would be nifty if instead of that I could connect it to the output of the switcher and feed the video from the extractor to the projector, thus using only one input of the audio DAC for all my HDMI sources, but this doesn't work. The HDMI switcher, made by Parasound, drives the cable fine with the built-in booster amplifier either on or off. You might think Parasound, a maker of high end audio electronics, would revise their HDMI switcher to include audio extraction but instead they stopped making it altogether. Monoprice does sell a switcher/audio extractor that drives the cable, but no remote control so unsuitable for my use. There *should* be a simple device that extracts audio and drives long cables--better still, a suitable switcher/extractor--at a reasonable price, but right now there doesn't appear to be. Projector users must be a principle market for this sort of thing, and projectors are typically driven by long cables. For me, a coaxial spdif output, in addition to the optical, would be useful since my DAC has 3 coax inputs and only one optical.I could use the Monoprice just as an extractor--it even has coaxial spdif--but my system is already too complicated and significant other unfriendly enough without the possibility of it getting switched to the wrong input. Also, Monoprice does not get, though plenty of user/reviewers complain, that most people do not want bright lights on their a/v equipment, so I'd have to deal with that somehow.I'm not using the analog audio out so to me any hum or noise that appears there is irrelevant. Another reviewer says there is some, though. 3Made My Television New AgainIt could be my imagination, but I really do think the picture quality I get now for watching Internet movies and show is far superior than what I was getting through my Blu-Ray. Honestly, I did want to go wireless, but my laptop does not have miracast or widi, so I decided an cable was the way to go. My TV does not have HDMI, so I needed a DVI adapter to go to the TV. And I needed a way to route sound to the stereo. THIS WORKS! It took some fiddling and tweaking, but IT WORKS. My config is laptop --> HDMI cable HDMI --> AGPtek --> HDMI cable DVI-D --> TV. (Audio plugs red/white go to stereo tuner.)It also took some RE-BOOTING. I was just about to send the unit back, when I decided to re-boot my computer, and sure enough, it all came together perfectly. So, when in doubt, re-boot. That's the best tip I can give you about this device. (And don't forget to try all three settings on the switch.)I was looking at this mostly as a way to watch movies and shows, but now I'm happily listening to a classical music station from Australia because it sounds so great routed through good stereo speakers!5Works for me I wanted to use my 1080p computer monitor with more than just a computer. But, it only has a DVI input, and no audio capabilities.I bought this, and plugged it into my monitor with an HDMI to DVI cable, and plugged my Xbox into it. The audio side came into an FiiO headphone amp and to my normal headphones. This setup worked really well, can't really complain.I plugged my laptop into it and set my laptop so it would output audio through HDMI. The digital to analog converter in this produces higher quality audio than my laptop's built in sound card, so, not bad.If you want to run media players and game consoles into a computer monitor, this gets the audio out of it for you.I don't think this supports HDCP, so if you need that, you might be out of luck. I don't have any HDCP sources, so I can't test this. 5This is the splitter you are looking for.Tried a JTech version of this and it wouldn't work at all. Saw this on sale for Cyber Monday and figured I'd give it a shot.I've got a PS3 and WiiU that are currently connected to an HDMI switch (works great) and then the TV is hooked to a stereo system via SPDIF. Problem is it's a cheap TV that doesn't pass through the 5.1 properly, so without a direct connection from console -> stereo (consoles are used for shows/movies also) there was no 5.1 sound. Other splitter didn't pass through anything, apparently it is a problem with their device (can only pass certain types).THIS ONE though works great. Wii U was the bad part on the last one, but this one passes through a clear 5.1 from any device. If you are looking for an HDMI to HDMI with extra audio out: this is it.5
