Customer Reviews

simple I wondered if this would be seamless setup for MoCA and it was - I'm a fios user in Massachusetts and this unit provisioned to their router in seconds and worked easily. What didn't work was the automatic WPS setup whereby it was supposed to get the ID and password for my network and add "-EXT" for the Actiontec settings. I tried twice, but really the "hold for 10 secs," an "press the WPS on the router for 2-3 sec" ddin't work.Still that was not an issue as I simply logged in over the LAN and edited the wi-fi password / SSID directly.Recommended ! 4Caution - not reliable, will hang I purchased two of these to connect to two of the ECB6200K02 Moca Ethernet adapters (4 moca devices in total, with one of the ECB6200K02 connected to my vDSL router). When it works, it is pretty fast - I see speeds around 500-600 Mbps. However, these wireless network extenders have to be power-cycled about once a day - they just stop working. Both of these WCB6200Q02 devices have the same problem, so I think it's most likely a firmware issue. I contacted Actiontec support and they told me my units are running the latest firmware (as of March 2017). I also thought it may be caused by periods of idle traffic, so I set up my laptop to ping the DSL router (from a hard-wired 1GbE connection to the WCB6200Q02) every 10 seconds. This did not help -- the WCB6200Q02 still hung after several hours and had to be power-cycled. I am very disappointed as I cannot rely on these devices to keep the network up, but it is too late to return them to Amazon. 1Frontier Fios Installed using the Frontier Gateway G1100 Router UPDATE: If you bought WCB6200Q one of the first things you should do after the WPS step is to update your firmware from 1.1.10.20 to the latest 1.1.10.20a.t. Search "WCB6200Q Firmware Upgrade" and you will find the instructions and file to update your extender. Also one thing I forgot to mention was to make sure you check your incoming splitter that is outside located after your fios box. You need to change it out to a MOCA-Compliant splitter from the regular one for this to work. Can confirm the "The Holland Electronics" splitter with the blue label works wellReview:Was using cheap plugin wifi extenders to fill in dead areas around my house. Was always resetting these plugin extenders because they kept disconnecting so I looked for a better solution and found the Actiontec Wifi Extender WCB6200Q. Some of the things I was looking for was a consistent reliable wired connection, Ethernet capable, easy setup/plug and play situation and lastly an extender that would be totally compatible with Frontier FiosEasy SetupSuper easy using the instructions that came with the box. First plugged the new extender into my G1100 router using an Ethernet cable then plugged the extender into my computer using another Ethernet cable then plugged in the power cord. I then waited till the extender light turned green on top..at that point I pressed the WPS green light on the extender for 10 seconds till it turned red and started blinking then i pressed the WPS button on the G1100 router for 3 seconds and started blinking. In less than 10 seconds the extender found my router and connected. Another thing the WPS process does is change the extenders name and password to match the routers name and password but adds and "ext" on the end of the name to differentiate it. Finally after getting setup I updated the firmware which can be found on the actiontec website.ResultsI now have a solid wifi extender that is reliable and bulletproof that works in the dead areas of my house. WIFI speeds are almost consistent with my wired speeds. 50/50 but the thing I like most is I haven't had to reset anything. Everythings working as it should out the box and I dont have to deal those terrible cheap wifi extenders anymore. In the boxWifi ExtenderPower adapterBonded Moca Splitter6ft Ethernet cable3ft Coax CableInstructions 5Works perfectly with Verizon I have Verizon FIOS Gigabit and Verizon's network extenders are just a re-brand of Actiontec's network extender. Because of that, with FIOS' quantum gateway router (G1100), it works perfectly. For those of you who don't know how FIOS' router connects, it connects via a network cable rather than coax like a typical modem. However, the quantum gateway still has a coax connection coming off of it which is for MoCA 2.0. You connect your FIOS router like normal and then connect a coax cable to the coax port and then plug the other end of the coax cable into the Actiontec network extender. Once that's connected and powered on, it should work immediately. Go into your router's settings to find the IP of the network extender so you can log in and change the SSID names, passwords, etc. It's all very straightforward. In addition to the actual WiFi extension, the extender also has two network ports for wired connections which is amazing. This thing is well worth the money as long as you have a router which supports MoCA 2.0.The only reason I knocked off a star is because my order did not come with the MoCA 2.0 adapter which is extremely important if you don't have a router that supports MoCA natively. You would plug the adapter into your existing router via RJ45 (normal network cable) and then plug the other end of the adapter into your coax line. Again, this is extremely important and it's one of the reasons why this extender is so pricey (it's supposed to come bundled). In my case, I didn't need it but if I did, I would've been pissed. 4FAIL! (updated) We just moved into our new home, and I wanted to create my new home network; I already have (Xfinity) cable internet with an Asus Wifi Router (RT-66ACU). I recently purchased a pair of Motorola MM1000 MoCA 2.0 adapters to bridge (via MoCA) from the PoE (where the cable modem and router are located) to my home office, everything worked perfectly! However, my Wifi reception at the other end of the house was poor, the answer (I thought) was a MoCA wifi extender! The only one I could find was this ActionTec unit...The problem is that no matter how hard I try to configure it I cannot get it to route traffic off of the MoCA (or its local wired and wireless) network to the Asus router (via the MM1000) and thus the internet!!!Even ssh'ing into the extender to examine the routing etc does not provide any insight into the root cause of the failure to route ...I'm a 30+yr s/w professional (but not an network specialist) but I am unable to get this device to work in my existing (and perfectly functional) network! In my case it is *far* from plug-n-play - which is a great shame since this is exactly the device that I wanted to replace one of the MM1000's *and* provide extended wifi coverageYMMV**UPDATE** I believe that the problem I experienced with this device was that the ActionTec is more susceptible to "network" quality issues than the Motorola MM1000. I believe that it is because my cable within the home is older, and perhaps the splitters used are not the latest that the ActionTec was not able to establish a MOCA connection with the remote MM1000, in the end I simply returned this and re-installed the MM1000 and established a good connection. I purchased a new Asus AC1900 router and reused my existing AC1750 router as an access point and now everything is working perfectly, so good in fact that in speed tests the presence of the MOCA connection from my router to the local machine (via the access point) shows no degradation in advertised speed of my Xfinity network connection! 1Gret connectivity but incorrect intructions Works extremely well in providing a wifi signal in places where wifi was previously unavailable - but - the instructions are wrong and the list of included accessories is wrong. The instructions state that when setting up via WPS that it will create the same SSID name with the 2.4 and 5 extensions - that is wrong as it will create a new SSID. This wasn't a problem for me as the extender will be placed in a separate building but the point is that the instructions are incorrect. While some reviewers state that the included splitter was a no-name(or that no splitter is included), mine came with a Verizon branded splitter. If you don't mind the different SSID (and different password of course) then setup is a breeze. Push the two WPS buttons, put the packing material away and when you've cleaned everything up then the extender is connected. Move it to the new location, plug i in and connect it to your coax and you're off to the races.I suspect that the vendor i shipping slightly different versions of this extender and it i the luck of the draw which one you get. The first one I got was clearly used and didn't work - although it created the same SSID as my existing network. That one included a no-name splitter. 4Coax or Ethernet - know the difference. This unit ONLY has Ethernet cable capability. It is NOT the Actiontec extender that connects to MoCa coax. Both have the same model number on Amazon. You must order https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BV1Y3W2/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0?th=1 in order to obtain the coax capability. The MoCa coax unit also has ethernet ports. Warning: on Amazon, both are listed with the same model number. I asked the question on Amazon about the difference since the picture does not show the ports on this model, and Actiontec's response was that the only difference was the reseller's coding. That is NOT correct. I will be requesting a return ASAP. 1ActionTec could not make product work ... they (and Seller) denied refund ... Never got any good quality of ISP signal over ActionTec Adapters and WiFi Extender over 60 days ActionTec o f much back-n-forth with ActionTec tech support, running around moving cables, trying funky setups of the Ethernet and Coax cables. FInally, on the 45th day ActionTec tech support admitted 'it' was a known problem and promised a fix in 10 days. I have a normal Comcast Extreme Speed setup that worked for a long time with no issues.10 days passed, I called and no fix, but instructions of how to setup a glitchy mini-network of, first, the Adapters to test 'it' out, again, with no guarantee the result would be any different. They told me that had a case# file they setup on this.Since I had been on floors and into basement ceilings multiple times with no change in the results and ActionTec's promise to fix it was just another 'test.', I gave up and just filed a Return Request. The Seller denied it because it was past 60 days (of following the manufacturer's, ActionTec, instructions to fix things. I protested to the seller. They re-contacted ActionTec, who denied the claim because it was after 30 days. ONLY because I was following their, the manufacturer's instructions and confidence they would fix things. I protested to Amazon and they denied it (I am still protesting this) because I had not notified the Seller, SpaceBound, that I was working with the manufacturer to fix the problems.BEWARE working with this Seller and Manufacturer and don't trust that your use of this ActionTec will work within the 30 days, because, per ActionTec, "does not work in some situations. After my best efforts to make things work per the technical support, I am very disappointed in Amazon, the manufacturer, and the Seller. 1Extender extends Wifi range I have a 30/30 service from my provider. I could only get 15/13 wifi at my computer. My router was in the garage and my computer was upstairs in the spare room. I installed the extender in my hall coat closet. Ran a CAT6 cable from the router, across the garage, in the crawl space, up into the closet. Now I get 27/26 on my computer almost doubled the speed. Also my television in the bedroom was not able to upload from Netflix as the signal was too weak from the router. With the extender I can now watch Netflix in the bedroom. After installing the extender I did more research on my router and found it to be a little dated on the Wifi. I then installed a new router which did provide a stronger signal with more speed. My computer and television remain on the extender. I would recommend the extender but check out your router and see if it has the latest Wifi protocols. See what speeds it can accommodate. Then see what is on the market. A new router might save you the trouble of hardwiring a router. As I read what I just said I guess the down side is having to hardwire the extender but it wasn't a big deal to me as I had a fairly easy route and I am handy doing things. 5Not quite what it seems! There is a misconception among some which I have shared, that an "extender" is exactly what most of us think extender means. Namely the signal and network access that you have in one place is extended to other parts of the domain, building etc. From this you would imagine that you could move without interruption, while receiving a streaming download, from one area to another and your so called Smart Device would see only one network and thus continue receiving. Not so. An extender gives you another network that depending on how you set it up, may be accessible using the same SID and P/W but its still another network. So if you are using the phone over WiFi and you move from one network area to this second one, your call will drop. For it to function seamlessly, it would have to be part of a Mesh network with its limitations; and this it is not.Another gotcha is that if you reboot your network router on a Fios network, its probable that this device will hang on to its IP address and interfere with the router's ability to get push data from Fios. That means a repeated need to reboot your STBs to get the Guide and/or access to Pay per View. The trick is to ensure that before you reboot your router you switch off the Extender and switch on only after the router is back on line. Took many months of trial and error to figure this out. 4
