Great - a couple tips though I negotiate contracts and travel a lot so I not only have curious seat mates, but opposing interests from whom I need to protect data. I just got a new laptop, so its time for a new privacy filter. A couple tips after 2-years of full time use:1. If you keep the filter on your laptop full time, consider using a small tab of scotch tape to keep it from shifting in the little press-on tabs supplied with the filter. Otherwise the filter will 'jiggle' against the screen over time and slowly put micro-scratches in the screen.2. It is not as glare-free as modern screens. It's not as bad as the old glass screens, but there's definitely more glare than with a 'bald' screen. And it does darken the screen a shade or two. If your laptop uses reduced screen power on battery, you may need to increase the screen intesity.3. Privacy protection. A previous reviewer said 10-degrees either side of head on. That's a stretch in my opinion - more like 30-degrees. Just right for seat mates, but in a conference room environment where the person next to you may push back from a table, there may be some exposure.Overall, great product. I had no reservations in buying a new one for my new laptop. 4Nice product but needs extra sticky strips This screen works well the only thing is the sticky strips. After 6-7 months they start to lose their hold. Currently I am trying to contact the company to see if they can send me replacements strips.If you use your laptop to watch movies you will notice that the screen will be affected and the brightness will not be as bright, even on the brightest setting. However the screen does prevent anyone not directly in front of the laptop from seeing your screen. 4So good, my colleagues find it frustrating... I've been a fan of the 3M Privacy Filters for a long time and have been using them primarily on my smartphones.This is the first one I have bought for my Lenovo X230 work laptop and it works really well. I work in an open space architecture with very low separations between team members. My laptop is often out in that environment and when people walk by, it is easy for them to glance at my screen. I am not usually doing anything particularly nefarious on my machine, but I would like to have some privacy from these occasional glances.This privacy screen is very effective for what it is supposed to do - give you privacy. It is not a "Harry Potter Filter of Invisibility", so people should be realistic about what it will and will not reveal. If you are behind me and have the same line of sight that I do, you will be able to see my screen. What I do when I expect people to be behind me is tilt my screen forward a bit. That changes the angle for them and gives me more privacy.I have people sitting directly adjacent to me and sometimes adjacent and behind me who say that this privacy filter is one of the best things they have seen. They cannot see my screen unless they come directly next to me and basically share my line of sight. From other angles, they can see my screen, but they will have difficulty making out specifics.One other thing I like about this screen is that is offers both a matte and glossy finish. I use the glossy finish side because that reflects back at people and gives you even more privacy if you are sitting in a brightly lit place. But you can easily take the screen off and flip it for matte if you prefer that.In general, I am quite happy with this privacy screen filter. It is well worth its price. 5Poor privacy performance and interferes with direct screen vision The filter is sturdy and can be removed to use and reuse as needed. It was easy to apply. The two-sided tape provided did not work very well for removal and reuse. This screen is supposed to black out or distort the view from anyone sitting on either side (think airplane or meetings); however, I found that it only darkened the screen image and made it harder to view but not impossible to view. Furthermore, it greatly distorted and darkened the user's view when looking at the laptop monitor head on. I tried both the matte and glossy side and both had unacceptable levels of distortion when viewing head on (directly across from screen). The instructions for applying the screen mentioned an included cleaning cloth,--this was not included in the package. Unfortunately, the return window has closed or I would return it. The product did not perform well and I would not recommend this product. 1A moderate improvement in privacy I found this filter to be just OK, it does prevent peeking eyes away from your screen, as long as they're by your side. The viewing angle is somewhere around 45 degrees, so anybody standing slightly behind you will have partial or total view of your screen. I'd prefer a narrower angle, even if it sacrifices brightness. 4You probably have to buy this because your annoying grad school makes you for exams like mine You probably have to buy this because your annoying grad school makes you for exams like mine.Privacy wise: this shines in stopping people sitting beside you from seeing your screen. Someone sitting behind you can still see your screen.If you don't know what size to get, and I can't believe people give low ratings because they can't use a tape measure, measure your laptop screen and M3 even has a guide. Match your screen dimensions with one of their filters.It's overpriced, but does it's "job" fine. It's a thin piece of plastic, and you set up the adhesive strips in the orientation of your choosing, allowing you to apply and remove the filter from your screen. Comes with some additional plastic strips to place over the adhesive when it's off your screen. Or you can mount it somehow.My chief problem with the filter is after removing it, sometimes there is a bit of a mark left on my laptop screen. It can be wiped away rather easily, but who knows how the screen will be affected over time. I'd rather this filter not damage my very expensive laptop's screen. 3Does its job, somewhat While it's true that someone sitting next to you on a plane would have difficulty seeing your screen, it's not hidden from people sitting behind you or people walking down the aisle, etc. It simply obscures the vision for someone sitting alongside of you. If that person's seat is back and you are forward, they will see a bit more than if they were directly parallel to you so that if they lean their seat back, they will have line of sight from behind you. So, for privacy, I give it a 3.The other issue is the ability to remove it once you place it on. There are two systems for attaching the screen to the laptop, one is permanent, with double sided tape, and the other should allow you to attach and remove it via creating channels with plastic stick on tabs. The problem is that it's really difficult to slide the screen in and out of the tabs without doing some damage to the screen or tabs. On my laptop the side tabs stay in place but the bottom tabs fall off, so that the screen is usually on an angle.I don't know that there are any filters out there that work better to protect your privacy; this is a nice, thick, well made and durable screen. However, there must be filters that attach with a better method. 33M WIDESCREEN PRIVACY FILTER FOR LAPTOP I just wanted to offer a helpful suggestion for those of you who ordered the 3M Privacy Screen for their laptops and are having problems (as I did) with those sticky tabs to hold it in place. I think those tabs are ugly, tacky and cheapened the look of my Macbook Pro and just plain didn't work. The screen wouldn't stay in place so I replaced the tabs with "photo corners"; you know those tiny transparent/pressure sensitive tabs that are used in homemade picture albums (only used on the corners of photos). They worked great and looked so much better-I think 3M should consider using these instead. You can imagine your laptop display is now "framed" picture perfect! And...you still have the flexibility of being able to remove the privacy screen without disturbing the tabs! A definite 200% improvement!! 4Decent filter for the price I travel every week and I purchased this to keep prying eyes off of my internet surfing habits while I am in close quarters on the plane.For the most part, it does the job. If someone is standing directly behind you, they can pretty much see what you are seeing. If they are sitting next to you on a plane, they tend to have a darkened, half-view of your screen. I have seen better filters in use, however, these will darken your view of the screen considerably. This filter, when viewed straight on, does not darken the screen much at all. For the most part, this gets the job done.The screen itself is reasonably sturdy. It comes with small plastic tabs which attach to your laptop which the screen slides behind. The adhesive on these tends to pick up various particulates which make their way into your laptop bag. This annoys the obsessive compulsive in me just a bit. Perhaps it would not have been such an issue if I had simply aligned the sticky part just a bit better.Overall, it is a solid product for the price. It will keep most eyes off of your business except when those eyes are at the most obvious of angles. 4I've had other 3M Privacy Filters for touch screen laptops that have worked much better. In fact I have a Lenovo Yoga 370 (13.3" edge-to-edge display) and the PF133W9E doesn't quite fit. I've had other 3M Privacy Filters for touch screen laptops that have worked much better. In fact, on my old Yoga 260, the 3M filter fit perfectly. Overall the produce does a decent job preventing onlookers from seeing my screen, but it isn't as good as the gold filters they sell - wish those were touch-compatible. Rating three stars since it doesn't fit (covers the screen, but not the entire display, leaves a lot of extra space on the top and bottom) the way it should and the fact that the privacy provided is only average. 3
