Customer Reviews

They work for me I bought these earmuffs to get some relief from the chronic screaming of children at the day care next door, the renovation of the apartments in my complex, and the neighbor across the courtyard who plays his TV at full blast. I can still hear a little sound, but it is muffled enough to be relaxing to read or work on the computer. If someone is in the same room with me and they talk to me, I can hear them so these wouldn't work if someone was watching TV in the same room and you wanted quiet. If I needed complete silence, I would put earplugs in and then these earmuffs over them. I wear these with my glasses without any problems, but I don't have a huge head. A friend of mine with a big head (her words, not mine) tried these and they were tight. I usually wear them about 2 hours at a time with no issues. Someone suggested I could wear my iPhone headphones underneath these but I find that uncomfortable so I only use these when I just want silence. I looked at a lot of other earmuffs before buying these and I'm happy with my purchase. 5Can't adjust fit Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I see no way to adjust these. Just trying them on in the house they don't fit snugly, and don't block sound. If I got sweaty at all they'd slide right off. No wonder some people say they're too small, or too big... You'd really think there'd be a way to make them fit different size heads snugly without being too tight or loose. They come with a "headband" that is 2 pieces of satin ribbon, each with velcro sewn on an end. "Instructions" didn't help at all, clear as mud as to what you're supposed to do with the headband. I really was hoping they'd work so I wouldn't have pressure on sunglasses and could wear any hat I want while using, but will have to keep looking. 1Metal head band instead of plastic These are very comfortable. The problem I have had with other over the head ear protection is they break in the center of the band after a few months of use due to being plastic. These have a metal wire band and a very comfortable cushion like leather cover instead of plastic. They seal noise out very well and can be worn for hours on end without much notice they are there. 5Not Good For Yard Work I have been using a pair of cheap-o ear muffs with earplugs for a few years for lawn mowing and using a chain saw. They worked okay but I felt there was room for improvement, so I shelled out for these. Right away I noticed these were significantly quieter. Unfortunately, after working for a while, I also noticed that these were much more prone to slipping down when I built up a sweat. They are heavier than my cheap-o's, and I guess my medium size head and normal size ears are not the right combination to hold them up when they are lubricated by sweat. They should be fine in a cool environment of for non-strenuous activity. Mine are gathering dust. 3I have wore them like this for short times My main worry when buying these was if they fit snugly to the ear while they were attached to my hard hat. This has not been an issue. They hold tightly. I wear them around concrete trucks while they are mixing and the ear muffs brings the noise down to a low distant rumble. When not using them you can pull them away from your ear till you feel a click, this positions them out and you can rotate them up to the top of your hard hat. You can then click them back down and they will stay snug against your hard hat. I have wore them like this for short times. When I do not need the ear muffs I generally take them off my hard hat as they do add quite a bit of weight to your hat. They work great and are worth the purchase. 5Great for Cool Temps As far as sound reduction, these muffs work as expected. But in hot environments the vinyl ear seals become slick with sweat and the muffs slide down off of your ears. I bought them to wear under a wide brim hat that protects my face and neck from sunburn. In cool weather, they work. When it is hot, not so much. 3Brilliant "El Cheapo" solution for airline travel As with several other folks on this thread, I fly 100k miles per year, but just can't rationalize paying as much for a pair of Bose noise cancellers as for my HDTV (!) so I gave this DIY solution a try - I went with the 101's since they looked a bit more discrete than some of the other earmuffs here, plus th NRR 27 rating is on the high side, and they are the highest rated earmuffs on Amazon. I pair these with a set of Philips SHE9620 earbuds for $20 solution of awesomeness! I've flown with other earmuffs before, most notably the Howard Leight Syncs, but these surpass those in every way - the comfort is great, the "ear holes" are bigger for larger ears, the sound of the Philips is actually enhanced in the 101's, enough so that I now listen to them at home in this configuration. Also, the internal ear cavity is quite deep, so any earbuds will fit without interference. The 101's work well for larger heads, and the key is they knock down the plane engine noise enough so that while listening, it's almost non-discernable. Our little secret that the folks in first class don't have it as good as you! Great price, high quality made-in-USA product, comfortable fantastic DIY solution (so long as you can handle the basic dorkiness of the overall look). 5Deeper ear cup, and blocks out sound just like the Optime 105s. Deeper ear cup, and blocks out sound just like the Optime 105s and you can't tell a lot of difference, Yet the coolest thing about this is, you can upgrade your ear cushions with the Gel rings ( HY80) . Update 5/23/17 Bought some for a cousin, she loves them. 5Peace on plane flights! These are my go-to ear muffs, outdoors or at home. I always bring a pair in my carry-on luggage when I travel, they are absolute bliss on longer flights, especially when combined with ear plugs or my Westone IEMs. The combination is far more effective than any active noise cancellation I can find. It's my balwark against the dreaded "baby wailing in the seat right behind" - doesn't block it out completely at point-blank range of course (seriously, that close a screaming baby is louder than a fire alarm), but muffles the noise enough to be drowned out by some energetic music on the ear buds. Comfortable enough for me to take naps wearing. For my moderate head size, they actually fit and thus isolate better than the higher-rated muffs. I really should get a few more pairs to stock up before they stop making them, somehow the best things always fall prey to someone ignoring the good old rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". 5Very comfortable and effective My earlier 3M sound suppressors were very poor quality with a plastic headpiece which broke very quickly. But this one is a very good quality piece and does it s job very well. Very nice sound suppression and comfortable to wear for a long time even in our scorching Indian summer!Lives up to it s ratings which prompted me to buy this model 5
