Customer Reviews

Bifocal starts too high. Fairly well constructed. Does not adequately protect against chemical splash. Have been using these for 2 years. Nice to have the bifocal feature. As mentioned in another review, the magnifying portion of the lens start a little too high. To use the glasses without magnification, you have to tilt your head down to look out of the top portion of the glasses, or wear the glasses a bit lower on your nose. It is built fairly tough, and should protect your eyes from small impacts. The temple shields protect against flying debris or minor splash coming from the side. Probably best for yard work, auto repair, or woodworking in the shop. It does not have a seal on the face around the eyes, so probably not best if acid or alkali or other chemical spill or splash is anticipated; a pair of goggles would work better for those situations. Not stylish, but it does the job. 4Not too shabby to look at I bought these along with the Elvex foam lined bifocals and I MUCH prefer the way these look and fit. I can see clearly now the rain is gone.I walk around the factory now without having to switch glasses, can see straight ahead without shifting my gaze up or down, and the focal line doesn't interfere until I'm actually working on a part and looking down at it. The lenses are clear and I'm going to buy more as back ups because I never want to go back to cheaters under regular protective eyewear again! Also they are comfortable, and they don't look half bad either! 5Great protection, fit and overall quality I didn't realize how much protection my eyeglasses were providing now that I no longer need them after eye surgery. I like to work outside weeding and pruning and otherwise gardening but now need bifocals to see the close-up detail. I also benefited from wearing glasses at work in surgery but no longer need the ones I had. My co-workers use these 3M bifocal safety glasses and suggested I try them to protect from the blood and guts as well as the dirt and branches (not at the same time however). They're awesome! Good clarity, placement of bifocal lens, fit (Asian face) and overall quality. I also bought these with the dark lens for working in the sunshine (no surgery here). Nicely done 3M, thanks! 530+ Yrs In Construction and Scratched in FOUR Days, Worst I've Experienced I have a system to make sure my safety glasses last as long as possible.1st - NEVER EVER wipe them unless they have been rinsed off with running water FIRST. No shirt, no towel, no moist towelettes designed FOR safety glasses, no wiping ever.2nd - Never put/store them in something tight or where they could bounce about without being spotless3rd - After day is done, place in special compartment (movement free) of lunch box ON TOP of silk like drawstring glass case to transport home so the lenses don't get scratched (as I have done with all other safety glasses)4th - Walk in the door straight to the sink and rinse them off to clean5th - Wipe with clean, dry, lint free cloth (this gets replaced every night)6th - Repeat without failWell, today, the fourth day of wearing them, scratched. Right dead center of my vision above the magnification area. They are now useless. Didn't drop them. Didn't set them down. No work was done by me or anyone else that put them near abrasives. But scratched none the less.Did they mysteriously scratch on their own? NO, absolutely not. But following this exact proceedure all there years I have never had a pair become scratched to the point of being useless so fast. Most of the safety glasses I purchase last at least 3 months before they are a bit hazy. And here are a couple of other problems you will have and might have. The first problem you'll have till they change the packaging is, they are shipped in an individual seal plastic bag with no lens protection. This allows the plastic to rub against the front of the lenses. And in a box where they are allowed to bounce around this is very risky. Were mine scratched? Only a slight hairline, but way off in a corner. And a problem you might have, is how high the magnification starts on the lens. Most of the time my vision is for distance, until I have to measure. It's just a little too high. However I did just start to get used to it.The good this is, I think, they were comfortable. Not when I wasn't wearing a mask. They pinched a bit then. But when I had a respirator on, felt fine.Hence the one star. 1Good scratch resistance These are very nice glasses. I wear them while working in my shop. They are much more scratch resistant than the deWalt ones I had previously. The only issue I have with them is that the rubber nose bridges fell off and I finally lost both of them. This is an important part because it allows ventilation and prevents the glasses from fogging. So now I need new ones, but it appears in the photos that the design changed to an integral bridge. If that's true, I expect these to last much longer than my first pair, which, other than the bridge issue, are perfectly good after a couple of years of use and abuse. Now that I'm thinking about it, I've never had a pair of safety glasses as scratch resistant as these. There is nothing more annoying than scratched lenses. 5Perfect for CERT's test! They give us a pair of safety glasses in class. Big clunky things with elastic straps. I picked up a pair of safety glasses at the box store that fit over the glasses I normally wear. Still not happy. As I don't need a correction, just bifocals, I figured Amazon might have a better way. Whoa, Daddy, this is it! I was the envy of every bifocal wearing person and a very happy camper. These did not fog up with a face mask and were so comfortable I forgot I didn't have my usual glasses on. This is with a hard hat and over the ear hearing aids on. Win, win!! I do wear wide frames so these might be a little wide for small boned women. Large boned women like me will love them, as should most men. 5Great safety glasses with magnifiers for middle aged eyes. I wear readers to see small things, and I wear safety glasses while doing woodworking, remodeling, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanities. When my vision started to deteriorate a couple of years ago, I ordered these. I have relied on them exclusively for two years, and the same pair still serve me well. I don't take good care of them, throwing them on my truck floor, hanging them around my neck, or packing them in my backpack. I wear them while I run my tile saw, table saw, and sawzall. They have held up well. There are a few superficial scratches on them, but it doesn't affect my view. While wearing these, I can look up to see distant objects, or look down through the magnified lower portion for close work. It took some getting used to, but that is the lot of a middle aged person. I have broken and discarded uncountable reader glasses, but these are still going strong. They are not a fashion statement, but they can't be beat for practicality. I recommend them highly. 5Home Use, Garage and Yard This is my third pair. I like to have two pairs around the garage and misplaced one pair. I wear them all the time, in the garage, washing the car, and in the yard. Most of the time I will not remember I still have them on. The reader lens placement is good, large enough, and works for me. I don't worry myself with tossing them in the tool box. There tough. If you are comfortable with the pair you have now, buy that pair. You can get used to any pair of safety glasses if you stay with them. When dirty I take them in the kitchen and wash them in the sink. I also have 2 pairs of Dewalt readers and have rated them also. They are lighter, the fit is not as tight, the look is better, more of a wrap around frame, and I use them for hiking, fishing, general outdoor recreation activities. 4You have to experiment to find what's best... The 3M Protective Eyewear are perfect for me. I've read the negative reviews and my advise is you have to know why your buying protective eyewear and what you are buying. You have to experiment. These are not $200 custom eyewear....I bought a pair of these and the Dewalt eyewear together so I could compare them. For the work that I do, I need a larger magnification area. The 3M has a much larger area and is perfect. The Dewalt is much smaller. If you do a lot of distance work and only occasionally need magnification then the Dewalt is fine. I need magnification about 50% of the time. Both are comfortable but for my face and features, 3M is better. The Dewalt begins pinch my nose after long use. The 3M nosepiece is very comfortable. You have to clean them carefully as the nosepiece can come off (but it goes back on). I also like the side protection better on the 3M. These are plastic and they will scratch so you have to treat them accordingly.I've had both pairs for several months and I will be buying a second 3M pair for my other workbench. They are perfect for me! ;-) 5Very good dark safety glasses when you need a bi-focal These 3M Nuvo Readers with dark lenses really solved a problem for me, as I need a bi-focal for close-up work. I have had another pair of these with clear lenses for a some time, which I use for lab work, but hadn't known until now that they were also available with dark lenses. I use these bi-focal glasses with a +2.00 diopter strength in many situations, such as close-up outdoor work in bright sunlight, reading at the beach, etc. (3M also offers these in diopters of +1.5 & +2.5) . They fit my medium-size face well, and have adjustable side frames (adjustable for length). The nose guards are soft, and I find these glasses are comfortable for long periods of wear (I can use the clear versions in the lab all day without fatigue or discomfort). My only reservation with the 3M Nuvo glasses would be in very dusty environments, since they are a fairly open fit (for dusty outdoor work, I prefer the 3M Virtua CCS gasketed safety glasses with dark lens which are also available on Amazon, but those, alas, do not seem to be offered as bi-focals). 5
