Customer Reviews

Prefer these as they are disposable. Needed these for asbestos contamination. Andi opted for them as I didn't relish buying a mask that I would use over and over and swap filters for... why? Well. I figure that the straps trap asbestos fiber and o didn't want to deal with that or changing straps. These were well prices and did the job. They aren't cheap - but they give a lot more asbestos protection than the n95's do. 5Best Respirator Mask in the Disposable Line of Face Masks Hi,This disposable 3M 8293 P100 mask is amazing. It blocks all foreign odors such as stinky, musty, moldy odors and tobacco smoke smells (and more). For starters, all disposable mask work/seal best on a clean shaven face (no mustache, beard or side burns). If you have facial hair, you will never get a good fit/seal when wearing a disposable mask and/or half mask respirator. If you don't have a correct seal, the mask will not do its job as advertised (another reason why soldiers are not permitted to have facial hair). The facial hair rule is mentioned a lot in 3M's online safety documentation.Secondly, according to 3M, a medium sized mask/respirator fits 80% of humans. If your nose is too large/long, try a larger mask. Test out the seal at your local store that has a garden center that sells plants/fertilizer. You will know you have a good fitting mask when you can't smell the plants/fertilizer. Do this first before wearing the mask in a hazardous situation/area.Thirdly, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that in cities with poor air quality, that a mask with a PM2.5 rating must be warn to protect your lungs. PM2.5 masks protect people from breathing in particles (particles in the air) that are larger than 2.5 microns. This mask protects people from particles 0.3 microns or larger and makes almost all smells/odors undetectable to the human nose.If you are traveling outside the US (or live in a smog plagued city like Las Angeles, CA) then, a P100 Mask is the best form of protection to protect your lungs. It's best to carry a few of these P100 disposable masks while traveling in other countries and to store opened masks in an air tight, resealable plastic bag (like a ziplock) to increase the life of the mask (an air tight plastic bag protects the mask from absorbing odors/moisture).This mask works best with DEWALT DPG82-11 Safety Glasses (prescription eyeglasses friendly). I own a pair of these safety glasses and I wear them over my prescription glasses comfortably without my prescription glasses fogging up due to the comfortable foam seal that travels around the frame of the safety glass lens). These can be found on Amazon for around $11 (see Amazon product title below):DEWALT DPG82-11 Concealer Clear Anti-Fog Dual Mold Safety Goggle.Bottom line: The 3M 8293 P100 Mask is amazing and is a great addition to bugout bags and emergency/survival kits in your vehicle/boat/motor home. Also, they block out stinky poo gas odor, urine odor and decomposing flesh odor (like dead animals found while fishing/hiking/camping).They are great to use while cleaning homes/businesses or using the restroom after someone else.I use these masks from time to time in moldy/mildew infested environments and I breath clearly without any issues. If your prescription glasses are fogging up, pinch the bendable metal strip (hard/firmly), within the mask, that rides on the bridge of your nose (above your nose just below the center of your eyes) to prevent warm, humid air leaving your lungs from fogging your glasses (or use this mask with the Anti-Fog Dewalt DPG82-11 Safety Glasses). If your glasses are still fogging up, pull the mask off your face about an inch and pinch the bendable metal strip, within the mask, before lowing the mask back in position over your mouth/nose for a better fit. The metal strip should form over the bridge of your nose and fit snug on the sides of your face below your eyes.Hope this helps others out.Note: I wrote this review without pay from anyone because I like how much this mask helps me out. I didn't receive anything for recommending the Dewalt Safety glasses either. This review included my personal review and facts from websites such as 3M (the manufacturer of this P100 disposable mask and WHO (The World Health Organization).Sincerely,Jacob LyleSurvivalGeek (On YouTube; my channel logo is a green smiley face) 5Protects well & not too hot for face I do a couple of full garage & shed cleanup a year that included blowing out dust & dirt whiile also applying some pesticide.I take PPE protection very seriously but this year vs. past had not taking breathing protection seriously.Looked around & found this to be excellent rating in protecting against micro contaminants & even some aeresol.Wear comfort is excellent & I dont heat up in a hot garage or shed as much as other masks. 5Works well I'm a paramedic with asthma who uses these at fire standby calls to help prevent another asthma attack. These block particulates well. There is still heavy smells so it's a little disconcerting wondering if you are really being protected. The seal for the face is good and keeps it closed around your mouth. They still get pretty warm but are slightly less stifling than other masks. 5I also don't think it's very comfortable. I'm glad I only bought one I'm having a hard time adjusting this mask to my face with glasses on. My glasses keep getting foggy. I pinch the nose area so less air gets out around my nose, but the only way for my glasses not to get foggy is to wear my glasses further out on my nose. I also don't think it's very comfortable. I'm glad I only bought one. 2From my experience with 3m masks even their disposable ones tend to last awhile so if your have a job where your mobile it's not When you need a very high filtering mask this can get the job done, just be sure what your dealing with in advance so you get the appropriate mask for the job to protect yourself. That extra time invested can and will save your health, don't cheap out either. From my experience with 3m masks even their disposable ones tend to last awhile so if your have a job where your mobile it's not a bad alternative to a mask with replaceable filters, just be sure you fit it to your face properly. 5Poor ergonomics Being in san francisco during the camp fire that destroyed the town of paradise and caused unhealthy air in SF for a week already, (and very unhealthy today) i was really looking forward to receiving a fancier face mask than the 1$ 3m model 8210 n95 i had been wearing for a couple of days (even asleep in bed). Unfortunately, the exitement was short lived when I put on this model, as it was less comfortable than the my $1 mask. My opinion on the design flaws: 1) The wide plastic/rubbery material that provides the seal on your face feels very unpleasant on the skin and caused both my wife and me to want to take it off in 5 minutes (after happily sleeping with her cheap little sister). 2) Your field of view is reduced by the big bulges next to your nose. 3) my glasses steam up exhalation. 4) the top strap is to short for people with a big head (me) making the strap tighter than you would otherwise adjust it.The model 8210 did not have issues 1-3 at all, but there the straps are narrow and fixed lenght and one of the straps broke spontaneously while I was just wearing it. On the positive side the new mask breathes easier ( less resistance) and is supposed to filter better. All in all a dissappointing poorly designed mask. 1Excellent filtration; easy to use; does not fit with eyeglasses Although I cannot confirm the N99 rating, I can, indeed, confirm that the mask works much better than the less bulky and less expensive N95 masks. I use the masks to help with an extreme allergy to particles that are often around .3 microns in size or smaller. This mask clearly protects from those allergens better than a certified N95 mask. The mask is comfortable, reusable, and easy to fit. It is easy to breathe through. The key disadvantage is that the overwhelming majority of corrective eyeglasses have noise pieces that are too narrow to accommodate the mask, and the mask cannot be worn below the nose bridge. Therefore, corrective eyeglasses cannot be worn properly with this mask. This is a major issue especially for people who need to wear glasses to drive while also needing to wear the mask. 4A decent P100 disposable respirator, but one star off for not being roomy enough for a good fit. I've tried every brand of P100 disposable respirator available, and the 3M 8293 is OK, but not the best. It is performs OK and seals alright, but it isn't as comfortable as could be and needs readjustment to maintain the seal. This is because it isn't roomy enough to accommodate my nose, which isn't really all that big as noses go. The Honeywell P100 disposable is much better in this regard, and therefor is more comfortable and maintains seal better. It also has a better exhalation valve. 4The best fit of a respirator I've ever experienced The best fit of a respirator I've ever experienced. I used this for spraying pesticide, heavy bleach cleaning, sealing tiles, mowing and raking up weeds that had been in the yard for a season in various states of decay, and lots and lots of vacuuming. The odors get through if they're strong enough (a little more than the 3M 8511 Particulate N95 Respirator with Valve, 10-Pack disposables) but the dust never has, which was the most important thing for a lot of these projects.Obviously, any mask worn for any length of time is going to get hot and sweaty, but like the N95, which I also recommend, it keeps that horrible suffocating feeling to a minimum compared to masks without respirators and you can wear it for much longer. This one has a rubber seal on the inside, so those with allergies be advised. That part of the mask, as well as the way the straps are designed, is what makes the fit so snug. It makes the mask a lot sweatier there, but again, you don't feel like anything is going to get past that barrier. Let's just say I suffered no dust in my snot (or any snot at all) after hours of exposure to vacuum filters, foot-high dry weeds, leaves and dirt, and laundry lint. TMI? 5
