Customer Reviews

Battery is a huge fail The battery doesn't hold a charge and even when it's freshly charged, it tapped out after about 20 min. Then it takes 4 hours to recharge for another 20 minutes of use. Just sitting there turned off, it still doesn't hold a charge, so when I needed it, the on button didn't even work because it was totally depleted. Video quality appears low res (mostly due to the 1080 divided by a massive fish eye angle) and sound is "meh." 1Flood tested, Hurricane Strong! I've had my 360 Fly for almost a year now, It's been thru the Louisiana floods, Hurricane Matthew and SUP! Never had a problem with it. If your looking for a full 360, it's only 270, so you have to know your purpose before shooting. While I'd love a full 360, I'm good with what the Fly delivers and I'm sure the 360 Crew will deliver the whole package as time moves on..... 4No way to view this camera liveThis would probably be one of my favorite cameras to use if it had software for my phone. My daughter is in a wheelchair and when we drive long distance, she cannot see outside the car. I bought this camera so we can go places and let her see things that she couldn't get to. We have GoPros, but I thought that this form factor would be awesome, and it is a great design. BUT THERE IS NO SOFTWARE TO VIEW IT LIVE. There used to be software, but when they went belly up, they killed their software. Now, it is just a paperweight in a paper free environment.1The technology is pretty cool, and when I was able to get ...The technology is pretty cool, and when I was able to get a video to view the quality was pretty good for a "fish-eye". What I DO NOT LIKE about this camera is 1) the software is pretty proprietary, 2) in order to view your video, you have to download it to your account on the app (desktop or mobile), 3) THE MAXIMUM SIZE FOR A DOWNLOAD IS 2GB so your video is relatively short, 4) the camera DOES NOT WARN you in ANY way that you're going to exceed the maximum download size, 5) or even better, split the video at the 2GB mark for you as you're recording so your video can be more seamless.Do not think that you'll be videoing a wedding, which is what I bought the camera for, WAY too long.By the time I was able to figure all this out, download the video's to my computer, in the hopes I could split the videos, upload them and then view them the way they were intended, I was too late to return it. For $500 I would expect a little bit better overall product.2let me go over some of the finer points. I am an avid outdoors personAfter research all the 360 cameras that I could find on the market, I picked the 360fly 4k for several reasons.1. Single video stream, no clumsy proprietary stitching required to produce a final video. Included software exports directly to facebook and youtube.2. Price. I bought mine on sale for $4003. Waterproof up to 5m4. Included GPS and gyro5. Form factorNow that I've had and used the camera for a couple of months, let me go over some of the finer points. I am an avid outdoors person. I hike, bike, and participate in many action sports. I've used GoPros in various aspects, and are familiar with their limitations. I would HIGHLY recommend this as a replacement for an action camera and I'll give some points why.Video:At this price point the video quality is great. Is it the best? No. To get better, though, you are looking at spending significantly more money. You also have to pay attention to the settings in the apps, because it defaults to half the native resolution for sharing on social media. This caught me off guard, but once I changed it I noticed my facebook and youtube videos were much more clear.Audio:Audio sucks. Sorry, but it does. Do I care? No. I'm going to try using a separate sound recorder, which I'd do with any other action camera. I've heard some great audio from gopros, but people have modified them to put deadcat material over the mic's. That might work, but I bet it would obstruct some of the video. No biggy.Form factor:Yes, this has an integrated battery and integrated memory. IT DOESN'T MATTER. Are you really going to record 2 hours straight of content? I hope not. Ain't nobody going to watch that and editing that much video would be a pain. I've found that for my excursions, the battery life and memory have been more than enough. Unless you need 2 hours straight of recording, just figure out how to record the interesting bits. Now, the integrated memory and battery make this camera waterproof up to 5m. I've taken the camera snorkeling and dove with it. The cheaper version of this camera requires the microphone to be plugged, but the 4k version does not to be waterproof. The camera has a single button with a multicolor LED. Something that I appreciate on the 360fly 4k is that it vibrates in addition to the light to give feedback for button presses. This means that if the camera is mounted to you, you don't have to look at it to know that it is recording. Just feel the buzz.Lastly, the form factor is great for an action cam. Yes, it is kinda dense and the problem with one large lens is that I'm always getting hand and finger prints on it. But, I have no problems chest mounting this, or mounting it to my helmet or handlebars. It isn't particularly obtuse, either, compared to some of the competitors. Being round, I will admit that I'm afraid that I'll drop it, but it has a grippy exterior and comes with a neoprene carrying case.Software:I've used both the 360fly app and desktop software. While traveling, it was great to be able to post 360 video to facebook. The software is very simple, and not super feature rich. Occasionally the android app required multiple attempts to get things posted to facebook. However, not sure that is 360fly's fault. Facebook doesn't have a great track record for their android app. The desktop software is very similar to the app. No advanced features, but it works and doesn't annoy me. If you just want to share stuff with your friends, it works great. If you want to professionally edit the video? Get premiere pro. Also, don't forget to set the quality to its highest before sharing to social media.Other thoughts:There is a learning curve with 360deg video. The 360fly does have a dead spot, but if you are aware of it you can put yourself in it and only show the interesting stuff. What I really like about this camera is the simplicity. What I mean by that is that you don't need an LCD to see what it is recording. It records everything, except directly beneath it. You don't need to make sure it is angled exactly perfect. With such a wide field of view, having it 10deg off doesn't make the video crap. It is so much easier to get good video.I am waiting for the integrated gps and gyro to be worth something. GoPro did something similarly with the Hero5, and finally rolled out software that uses the metadata. Hopefully 360fly has some plans, because I think there are some great opportunities to use geocoded 360 video. Conclusion:I'm super happy with the 360fly camera, and glad I purchased it. You should get one, too.PS. I wish I could share some of the videos here, but I don't think amazon will play them correctly...5Good entry level 360 cameraIt's a good entry level camera. Records in 720 or 1080p. I recorded videos of me and my dog on our motorcycle-sidecar rig riding the highway and I'm impressed by the stability of the video. Don't expect much from the battery - maybe 30 to 45 minutes.Using the smartphone app (on a BLU R2 Plus with Adroid 7.0) I haven't been able to download videos from the camera to the phone; the downloads timeout or just stop. Another feature of the app, streaming live to Facebook also seems to be impossible. Since the app uses the phone's wifi to connect to the camera, I can't connect to the internet with wifi - duh-huh. On the other hand downloading via USB to my desktop computer and editing video with the PC app is somewhat easier; it's still very slow to download files from the camera to the PC though.3Warning. Do not buy this in 2019This camera hardware and packaging wise, looks cool. As soon as you download the software for the phones or desktop tho, everything goes south. The login system is broken in app and on their website. The Facebook connection required to live stream is broken (apparently from their forums it s been broken for 5 months). Streaming is impossible. The other company who had an app for live-streaming with this camera have gone out of business and their app is no longer on the stores.Their website still looks slick, but look at all the complaints on their forums. Total lack of support and no response. Looks like the company will go out of business soon.1Good bit of hardware that is hobbled by unreliable softwareI had trouble from day one trying to download videos, with both the Android and Windows software failing. When I tried to play back on my Google Pixel the app would say "Video can't be played", and when I tapped the download button, the button grays out and does nothing. I also tried downloading on my PC, and when I tried to import the videos into the Director software, it would get to 80% processing and then says "Could not process media. Try re-importing."Every. Single. Time.I worked with 360fly support for nearly a week trying to troubleshoot the problem (which they believed was due to a firmware problem), but eventually I just gave up and returned it to Amazon for a refund. I was evaluating this for use by non-technical users in another department, but it was clear from the problems I was having as a technical user that this simply wasn't going to be usable.Maybe when they get the software and firmware stable this will be a good investment. Right now it's a gamble.2NOT A REAL 360 DEGREE CAMERAGarbage. To say the company is misleading is an understatement. They called the company the name 360.Well folks don't rub your eyes when you see that price tag, this is most certainly NOT a 360 camera. This is a single lens top mounted over exaggerated fish eye lens. In a cool looking sphere! After getting the "360" camera I noticed right away this was gonna be an issue. How on earth is it going to be 360 with one lens. Well its not. What they do is process your recording ( the app is a whole other story) and make it as close to 360 with auto stitching. This is a great buy if your a 16 year old who wants to put I on your skate board deck and record a bad looking video. But to anyone who takes pride in their work....keep looking this is not the one,1Unique camera that you'll want to get if you want to make sure to capture everything that is going on around you.If you want to jump into the world of VR this camera will give you a taste of it.With VR (Virtual Reality) getting popular lately this camera will excite those that are looking to create their own VR movies.Pros:- no stitching of images thus no seams or strange missing parts like competitors- waterproof so no need to buy separate housing- compatible with GoPro mounts and other accessories so if you already own them you can use them with this without extra cost- standard tripod socket so if all you have is that can use that instead- is very tiny so can record everything around you without attracting much attention- feels rugged and tough and has taken quite a bit of abuse and shock without breaking- can still be used without smartphone or another remote device but will be limited in controlling it- can double as a POV camera instead of 360 if you want- can control exposure, speed, color, brightness and various other features of camera using smartphone or tablet using 360Fly app- would be great for instructional video like teaching how to fly or drive since you can see everything that is going on in the cockpit.Cons- battery seems to go quick and no way to add extra battery- no SD Card slot so no way to expand storage space- image quality poor unless there s lots of light and even then there is quite a bit of purple fringing apparent- software quite buggy especially considering there was an HD version of this camera out for a while now. Had the app crash several times and the desktop software seems to be even more prone to crashing. Need to use 360Fly app for camera to be useful. Website even says some software features not ready and are continuously being improved so makes some aspects feel half finished.- no LCD or other way to easily change settings without a smartphone or tablet. Also only works with certain phones and tablets listed on website.- only one livestream option. Incompatible with the most popular options. Then again don't think any of the other options support live 360 video streaming- a bit on the expensive side- only 4K camera as in 4K pixels total at maximum resolution of 2880 x2880- takes some getting used to figuring out mount point. Should I record upside down? from top of head? from chest? It all depends on if you want your face/body in shot or notThis is definitely a 360 camera because it records everything around you from the front of your face to the back of your head. There is a gap at the bottom center where the camera is of course though. This actually makes it challenging to shoot without getting your hand or other parts of your body in it. Fortunately, you can use the 360 Fly app to move a distance away to get yourself out of the shot. I found the video and pictures it too to be pretty interesting and unique. Quality seems to be comparable with other 360 cameras available. Most people probably won t notice the chromatic aberration from using such a wide angle but if you are used to using a high resolution DSLR you probably will. The most annoying parts of the camera I found was having to disable the Wi-Fi on your device to connect to it to control it, which is necessary to use the time-lapse and POV features. The process was slow and awkward. Also, the process of getting the video and pictures from the camera to PC was a bit cumbersome. So although quality is not as good as I would expect for a 4K camera, after seeing video on YouTube of all other 360 cameras I think 360Fly is best for action. Waterproof and pretty rugged compared to others, works with iOS and Android phones, and most important you don't get funky stitching artifacts. I didn't think last point was such a big deal until I started watching a lot of 360 YouTube videos and it's a lot more jarring and annoying than I expected! Seeing phantom limbs, missing body parts and people's faces cut in half due to camera/software not being able to seamlessly blend the 2 camera video into 1 big 360 panorama ruins the experience completely. Instead of making you feel or giving you that I am there in person feeling I'm spending time trying to figure out what I"m looking at like putting a jigsaw puzzle together! I'd rather put up with the 360Fly not as great picture/video quality which is actually good enough for most people. Also, it's a bit tricky trying to figure out where you want to mount it because that makes a big difference if your face, body, etc will end up in the shot. For example, mounting it upside on drone is perfect because you will see everything but drone. I also seen mounted upside down on roof of an airplane and car which is perfect, since it gets everything going on inside plane, car, etc.. On top of surfboard would also be another great spot since you will get everything going on around surfer and surfer themselves on top of board. Now if you don't want to be in shot yourself you'd have to mount it on top of your head pointing straight up to cut yourself out which is kind of awkward. So basically, if you don't want your face to show in your video it will take some work. Actually, that's why they are coming out with some custom helmets that let you mount the camera right on the top center which makes sense. Anyways, if you are trying to upgrade your GoPro experience to the next level I'd give this 5 stars for all the future potential it holds for more immersive video than you can already make. For the average user that don't know what to make of it or all the new possibilities it opens up it'll rate a lot lower so giving it 3 stars. So if you are looking to get cutting edge and unique footage to use with virtual reality this will be a lot more compelling buy than someone that s going to use it for the occasional parties or other random times you want to make sure to capture everything that is going on around you.3DON'T BUY - not worth the "360" feature (that isn't really 360*) One of the worst purchases I've ever made. The camera is super buggy and scratches easily - and the repair is crazy expensive!!! 1After several months review (Updated 06-19-17)I've had this baby since January of this year (2017) and I've had lots of time to record with it. I like that you can just set it and forget about it without having to chase people around to get the perfect shot. This camera does it all but sometimes you get that fish eye effect that makes certain parts of the body seem larger than others but that can be adjusted by changing the position of the camera to a better location. The resolution is very good and the microphone has a good recording but I've had several issues.1) When the memory gets full I need to download it to my PC so that I can continue recording (Update 06-19-17). The latest update solved problems and it's nice to have the option to connect to the PC for continuous recording without having to download the videos every time the memory in the camera gets full.2) The camera used to stop recording randomly but the latest update fixed that (Updated 06-19-17)3) Whenever I download the videos to the computer I have to rename the files every time because the automatic names reset every time so I had to create 1 folder every time I would download the videos and later on and then rename them by date and sequence. LOT'S OF EXTRA WORK!4) It took me forever to install the update because I was not logged into the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at the same time so make sure you do that before running the update (Updated 06-19-17)I would like to request some enhancements:1) Make the file names to be automatic by date and time to keep files sequentially organize avoiding any issues with same file name.2) Have the camera BEEP LOUD whenever it stops recording so it I can then take action depending on what's going on so I don't miss important footage.5Save your money and get a 360 goproI should have done more research on this before I bought. The company that makes it is no longer in business. There's no support for it, no software updates. The images quality is decent, the battery life is approximately 2 hours. I planned on using this on my motorcycle, but since I can't buy a charging base (it has an internal battery) from the manufacturer and can only find used items on ebay I decided to use my gopro instead.Connecting the my phone by wifi is a slow process, downloading videos that way is also a pain. My guess is no software updates so it becomes extremely slow. I would recommend doing your homework and researching this. It might be useful certain applications, but not for mine.1
