Customer Reviews

Not exactly as advertised. I purchased two of these cables from EPICDEALZ and they work, which is a good thing. But they are not quite as advertised. They claim that they are "CAT5 Enhanced CAT5E", but I don't believe that they are. The two cables that I got had a strange feel when touching the black outer (shell) sleeve. The internal wires felt very loose inside the outer sleeve. There are no markings, at all, on the outer sleeve. I actually cut one of ends of the cable off in order to fit them through a smaller bore hole than I would have had to made if I kept the ends on. That's when I really noticed what I didn't like about the cables: They are untwisted pairs of wires! Essentially there is just eight loose wires inside of the outer sleeve. There is no twisting at all from what I can tell. Furthermore, the color scheme is a little off. Instead of having Blue/White+Blue, Orange/White+Orange, etc, there were eight different colored wires, again, not twisted together. So I had to really figure out which wires went with which position when reattaching an ending on the cable that I cut. Furthermore THE WIRES AREN'T COPPER, they are steel, I think AND THEY ARE NOT SOLID GAUGE, they are stranded. That means that they are very, very thin strands of what I believe is steel, woven together to make a 24 (or maybe 23)-gauge wire, covered in oddly-colored insulators. When I first used RJ-45 punch-down keystone jacks to re-establish a termination at the end of the cable, some combination of the cable's poor construction did not allow the cables to be used properly. I have a feeling that it was the fact that it was stranded wires instead of solid cables that caused this. I had to use standard RJ-45 modular plugs, just like what came on the cable. Those seem to be working, but it wasn't how I wanted to set up the installation.I realize that the description didn't say "copper", so I can't blame them for that. Nor did it say that it was solid UTP, versus stranded. But it DOES SAY that it's "CAT5 Enhanced" "CAT5E", which I believe that it is not, due to lack of "twisted pairs" of wires. 2for $10 I shouldn't be so critical but given how easy it is to make ethernet cable it should be ... I should have headed the warnings. Nothing "Heavy Duty" about this rice paper thin jacket. The wires are strand not solid core. The cables negotiated at 10/100. I really needed cables so thinking it was the tips I cut them off and patched them through my patch panel. Still 10/100. Now the entire run needs to be replaced because there is a break somewhere in the line. for $10 I shouldn't be so critical but given how easy it is to make ethernet cable it should be impossible to buy cable of this build quality. 1plugged it in, didn't work :( testing was apparently not done as when i connected this to my computer computer still says connect a network cable. set up was fine as I had been using a shorter cable before. I'd go with a higher quality cable next time. 1DO NOT BUY. This is NOT cat5e (1000Mbps), its cat3 (10Mbps)! I was suspicious of this cable when I received it. The pairs feel thin inside the jacket when squeezing it (they normally fill up the jacket) and the wire does not look like copper when looking at the end of the connector. So I brought it back to work and tested it on a professional cable certifier and wouldn't you know it, it's only capable of 10Mbps! That's cat3 people, 10 Base T, not even 100Mbps which is now becoming less common even with home-grade equipment. Cat5e should be capable of Gig Ethernet, 1000Mbps (1Gbps). This is NOT Cat5e.DO NOT BUY! 1Get what you pay for. I purchased this product a little over two weeks ago when I was just looking for an inexpensive cable to run. At about $8, this cable seemed like an easy decision for me. There are two things that I am aware of with this product. The first is the product is cheap and affordable. It is definitely not the best cat 5 out there. However it has done the job for me. I haven't noticed slow speeds when using the cable. The second is the quality of the cable. The plastic seems to be cheap but then again it was only $8. There are definitely better quality cables out there. If you are more concerned with an affordable cable that works, then this cable isn't a bad option. If you are looking for a quality cable that is made with excellence, then you should probably avoid this cable. With that said, I have used the cable now over two weeks and it has worked great with no problems. I gave the cord a 5 for affordable and 3 for sturdy. Thus I ranked this cable 4 stars. 4Poor quality cable. !!!!DO NOT BUY THIS CABLE!!!!I bought this cable quite a while ago so I could bring network/internet access to my Blu-Ray player. It has no problems doing the job I ask of it, but the insulation surrounding the cable has quite literally fallen to pieces. Its so thin and such a poor quality you could pull on it and actually tear the black plastic insulation like it was made of paper. Just the stress of the cable sagging from the router has caused the insulation to break and expose the wiring within. Yes it was cheap and its quite long, exactly what I was needing...but if I had known just how cheap I would had spent more on a shorter cable and made it work. I have cables 10 years old that have been laid in high traffic areas that haven't done what this one has by just laying still. In the end its my fault for not reading the reviews of so many others showing this product to be a phoney piece of trash that doesn't even meet the specs that are being advertised by the seller. It should be removed from the listing all together. 1works ok, but not great quality It does do the job (I have 3 Mbps internet speed), but it is poor quality. The clear clip that keeps the plug in place until you squeeze it to release the plug does not work. It looks as though it would work, but it has no "click", so if you move around, the plug slides out. Also I've had my cord about a week or 2 and the black plastic coating has already separated/torn from the plug. If you plan to use this stationary & leave it there, it would probably work ok, but anyone who moves around or needs to switch different computers often should buy something sturdier. I suppose it's worth the price...you get what you pay for. 2Not Good...Signal Loss! CAT5's are hit-or-miss; this one missed. Signal loss was the issue with my purchase (which was promptly returned).Amazon was excellent in that the return process was painless; I ended up re-ordering from Cables To Go. Their product cost a couple of bucks more but it was solidly constructed, no tangles, no signal loss, and fast shipping. You want a product you can trust? Spend the extra couple of bucks to get a product that's going to be dependable down the road. 1FALSE marking - fraud- cable is not what purported to be I ordered this cable listed as being Cat 5e- indeed the jacket was marked Cat 5e, but it did not work on Gb ethernet and was slow even running 100 baseT. When I cut open the jacket to inspect the wires within the cable, the problem was obvious- none of the 8 wires within were twisted into pairs, and the conductors were thinner than the 24AWG as marked. FROMWAREHOUSE's PRODUCT WAS A FRAUD. Unfortunately, I had already installed the fromWarehouse cable through walls and ceilings.Avoid this seller and use an abundance of caution when buying any cable on Amazon. I sent a notice to Amazon legal asking them to ban this seller because continuing fraud. Amazon has done nothing about it thus far, despite having notice and evidence. 1The 100' cable from CMPLE worked fine. My high-speed connection here is only 60Mbps and ... jacket is stamped 5e, I needed a temporary connection between my modem on the first floor and computer on the second floor. The 100' cable from CMPLE worked fine. My high-speed connection here is only 60Mbps and the speed test comes in right at the advertised speed. 5
