Customer Reviews

Works great. Ive used it on my cheap stainless Works great. Ive used it on my cheap stainless,154cm, vg-10, and white paper #2 blades. Doesn't load up. Included nagura is a nice bonus. Minus 1 star because mine developed subsurface cracks that hold on to water, but doesn't seem to affect performance (yet). I usually follow this stone with Chosera 3000 then Suehiro Rika 5000. This particular progression leaves me with a hazy finish with just enough 'tooth' to rip through fishes all day. 4Makes things sharper! After watching many youtube videos of how to sharpen a knife with a whet stone I think I'm finally getting the hang of it!This stone is pretty amazing, even for someone that doesn't really know the best technique. It's course enough that it isn't too polished, but fine enough that it looks pretty nice and cuts well. If you're looking for a fine edge- you can get it.Every time I use this whet stone I feel I am improving, so I do recommend this as an introductory to the hobby (or an advanced tool, I don't know, I've pretty much been telling you I'm no good at this- so lay off! 4Chosera: Best water stones you can buy The Chosera line of stones are my favorite. I sharpen knives as a side job and these are my go to stones with expensive kitchen knives or knives with super steels or expensive knives in general that I wish to give the best treatment. The stones are splash and go, DO NOT SOAK, and are extremely hard and slow wearing while cutting metal very quickly. Smoothest tactile feel of any water stone I've ever used. Just an absolute joy to use. Like every other stone in this line, this stone polishes well above it's stated grit while still cutting metal very quickly. In a progression, I usually use this after a Chosera 400, and before a Chosera 3000. This is the older version that is 25mm thick and comes with an attached base and nagura (which I never use but, I know some people like them). The newer stones are branded "Naniwa Professional" they are 5mm thinner and come without the base for the same price but are supposedly harder and slower wearing but I have not noticed any performance differences between the two versions so, definitely go with the older Chosera version as long as they're available. 5Perfect straight razor bevel setter If you are new to straight razor honing and are searching for a bevel set stone look no further. Buy this. It is awesome. I've been through many 1k an 2k stone looking for a bevel setter and finally decided to give this one a go. I'm glad I did. Cuts fast ....great feedback ...gives a clean edge. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it. I also have a shapton1k and 2k and this blows them away. You will need to lap it out of the box. Atoma 400 worked great for me. 5Middle of the Line These are Middle of the Line bench stones but perform exceeding well in practice. I bought the set of three and except for my Spyderco Stones and my Shapton Glass Stones this set is actually all the hobbyist would need! They are easy to use (no soaking for minutes in the beginning) but splash a little water on them and you're good to go. I am quite happy to have them in my collection of bench stones.(I am going to write the same review for all three grits of this stone, and heartily suggest purchasing all three which will give you the full range that you need - I've rated each of the three the same). 4Awesome sharpening stone!!! Got this for my girlfriend for Christmas and wow!!! Our knives are crazy sharp. This makes cooking so much easier and more enjoyable.I recommend splurging for a stone like this one that you don't have to soak before using. Splash-and-go allows you to keep this handy and sharpen a knife whenever you want without planning out a whole knife-sharpening session. 5000 grit stones and they are the without a doubt the best for sharpening ones expensive German or Japaense steel based ... I purchased a Chosera 1,000 and 3,000 grit stones and they are the without a doubt the best for sharpening ones expensive German or Japaense steel based knives. I only use the 1,000 grit if the knife has become very dull then use the 3,000 for razor sharp finish with a bit of a polish.. 5Best 1000 grit stone on the market Easily the best 1000 grit stone on the market. There isn t a knife that I sharpen that doesn t get a few passes on my chosera 1000. The Chosera 1000 is probably the most important stone in my sharpening system, although not my favorite, because of its versatility and preformance. 5Razor sharp knives with this stone I have been 'trying' to sharpen my knives for years. I thought I really was just terrible at it. I had purchased a few other products in the past that claim to sharpen but to no avail. I even own an electric diamond sharpener. I purchased this stone as a 'last attempt'. Wow, what a difference! This stone is amazing. The feedback you get from sharpening lets you that your stone is definitely getting sharper with every stroke. You do have to be patient and apply a good number of strokes. (I start with 30 each side). You can youtube "burrfection" for tutorials.Pros:You only have to wet the stone. No oils, no submerging.Great edge on every knife I own.Very fair price.Cons:You may want to get a better stand for it. Mine slips and slides a bit, but its mainly because there's water around it.Verdict:A great buy for the money. It also comes with the stone that helps 'shave off' your sharpening stone to keep it in great shape! 5Great for the kitchen... So far so good, would buy again. 1000 grit is the only grit you need if you prefer one stone for kitchen sharpening. I wish the plastic base had better rubber feet, but they work well enough. 4
