Stone grits are comparable to how sandpaper is graded the lower the number the rougher the cut.

Great variety I love the variety of stones. you can take off a lot of material to make your edge and get a great polish in just a few minutes. 5I to fell victim to the 1 year warranty claim ... I to fell victim to the 1 year warranty claim. there is no further mention of such other then the product title so I don't expect to be receiving any replacements. furthermore, the "stones" are nothing more then sanding compound (similar to sand paper grit) compressed into blocks. you would be lucky to create a finely sharpened edge with these let alone make it through your drawer or knives before the "stones" are completely worn away. 1great stones Very handy to have. I use them to sharpen everything. 5Does not seem to be an actual 3000 grit I'm trying to polish aluminum to a mirror finish and while I have achieved a reflection it's a really poor reflection with deep grooves visible to the naked eye. I actually get a better finish with the 2000 grit stone and the 2000 grit stone feels smoother to the touch than the 3000. My conclusion is that these are all over rated. Also, these are glued onto the plastic base with a couple tiny spots of glue. This was fine with me as I wanted to removed them from the plastic anyways. However, if you were wanting them to stay attached to the plastic you might be disappointed. I probably would have given these a 1 start but I realize that my application is not the intended application and so I tried to adjust my rating to be fair. 3Five Stars Great Product fortunately nothing came broken love it works like a charm. the writing wears off quite fast so mark them in another place and enjoy 5Five Stars Perfect 55 star considering low price. For less than $13.00 these are a good value but need some work. The bases are useless and the glue is weak. I removed the bases and attached the stones to 1" wide strips of 1/2" pine with anti-slip shelf mat attached to bottom. What I ended up with is a set of 6 good stones. I give these a 5 because the quality of the stones themselves is excellent for the low price. 5I now have scary sharp knifes When I received these stones they were double boxed and wrapped in bubble wrap and again with a dense foam. I would guess they read the reviews about broken pieces and fixed it. First thing is you better label them on the back as the print for the grit is the first thing you loose. Second you have to uses these on a sharpening device. Using these little stones free hand is nearly impossible.Only use the 180 stone once on any blade just to set a new angle , using it any other time is just making your job harder. As the grit goes up your work does to, so expect to take more time at 3000 then at 400 to get the polish on the edge. I have used oil and water to see what works best. I like the water mostly because of the easy cleanup. The oil just seems to get everywhere.As for wear: my first set of stones were able to sharpen about 20 6 to 12 inch kitchen knifes before I order this set. Not all the stones wear at the same rate so the 400 and 800 became to worn to use and at $12 it worth ordering a new set.I learned the hard way that these are brittle little stones when I dropped one off my work bench (about 3 feet) onto concert and it broke in half. That is why I stopped using oil and switched to water ;-) 5Descent sharpening stones. Stone quality is Ok. Grit size seems accurate. Price was great (you always get what you pay for). Two of the plastic stone backers were unglued when arrived. Not enough or correct type of adhesive. Two more came off while I was sharpening my hatchet. Used 2-part epoxy to re-attach. The plastic backers are helpful, so the stones won't break and they make the stones easier to hold.Update:The company that supplied the stones contacted me with a nice apology via email and offered to replace or refund my purchase. Nice customer service for such an inexpensive purchase. 4Just tired of dull knives. So I picked up a used Apex ... I am not a professional chef, or a hunter. Just tired of dull knives. So I picked up a used Apex Edge Pro on Craigslist. I didn't want one of the many knockoffs available, but wasn't looking for gold plated original either.Just two quick observations. These stones do fit, but they are narrower than the Apex stones, 19 mm vs 25 mm. Not much I suppose, but maybe it will be more difficult to get a good edge, especially on thinner, more flexible blades.And #2, the grit rating is stamped on the grinding side. Seems like it will disappear rather rapidly, and since the 180, 400 and 800 are all the same color (brownish) and the 1500, 2000, and 3000 are all white, it will be tough to tell them apart pretty quickly. Marking the back will be a must for an amateur. 3
