Best in its class Doesn't wiggle. Lightweight. Does what it says. 5Wrist strap too small to get my hand through. Decent build. I haven't done the helmet boom setup, but I have used it in other configurations. My biggest complaint is that the wrist strap is too small to fit my hand through - even if I'm not wearing gloves. 3Segmented rods create noise I am rating this on my intended use, which was dual sport motorcycle riding. The segmented piece, while handing for choosing different lengths and for storage, are a set back for what I had intended. The joints have enough play in them that when the pole flexes, the joint(s) make a noise. This noise travels through the poles, into the case and right to the cameras mic. In play back it is the dominant sound. If you riding on a perfectly smooth surface its great but any bumps start the rod to flexing and the sound goes right with it. Returned for refund.For my intended use a one piece rod would be needed. Also they show no counterweight in the image of the camera mounted to the dirt bike helmet. You will need counterweight in the back. 2More Stickies Please It works just fine.But... I'm a filmmaker and I want to buy more of the sticky pads because I want to mount this thing to multiple places.They don't sell the stuff. So I bought double sticky tape from amazon. 4Great tool for interesting Points of View from your small video camera The Fat Gecko Kaboom is a versatile and fun tool for capturing interesting points of view from your GoPro or other small format video camera.The boom comes in five sections so you can adjust to the length you need. The sections snap together with metal buttons and the connections are quite secure.I did notice you need to ensure the mount at the end, which screws in, needs to be securely tightened to ensure it doesn't rotate accidentally.The boom is made from carbon material - so it is light and strong. It comes with several mounting options for hand held, helmet mounted, and even vehicle mounts. So the options are many.One nice thing I noticed while taking video of our pups on a walk, is that the boom dampens your movement and gives a much steadier picture than simply hand-holding the camera. This is nice for when you are moving along rougher terrain as the bumps are dampened.Also, the mount on the end gives great range of motion for nearly any point of view - you can use it to take video of you, or use it to get a height advantage (high or low) for great POV shots.I tested it with my GoPro and kept the POV at nearly ground level with the dogs and I just had to hold the boom - very nice and convenient. Also, with the GoPro app and preview, you can see what you are getting and make adjustments on the fly.There is also a tripod connection in the handle so you can get an additional 5' of height over a tripod for that extra tall shot.Overall a very neat tool and fun to use. Plus, it's extremely light weight and comes apart very easily for transport. 4Five Stars Excelent 5Very light, strong, expensive. Don't get this if you're only interested in selfies. Perhaps the name is designed to be attractive to the target market, but it's quite a mouthful.It looks like Delkin set out to make the ultimate GoPro extension pole. It mostly succeeds, except for selfies. If you're mostly interested in taking selfies, one of those telescoping arms would be much easier to use.The construction is carbon fiber, meaning it is very strong, stiff, and light. While the carbon fiber is impervious to corrosion, there are metal parts - the clips that holds the different sections together, the tripod screw, etc.It comes in 5 different sections. There is the grip part (10" long, including the grip), 2 x 10" sections (one of which is the end with the tripod screw), and 2 x 15" sections. Other than the grip and the tripod screw end, you can have any, all, or none of the other 3 sections attached. This allows you to choose between 20", 30", 35", 50", and 60" extension. Changing length on the fly is a hassle, though, which is why I think a telescoping arm is probably superior for selfies.It comes with self adhesive mounts and clips for the helmet mount, but not the vehicle suction mount. It comes with a mini ball head, as well as a tripod mount (looks identical to the original GoPro tripod mount) if you don't need the flexibility of a ball head. The base of the handle has a socket for tripod mount. This allows you to attach your 5' extension to an existing tripod - or even another Fat Gecko Kaboom for a 10' extension. I wouldn't recommend doing that though.A (up to) 5' extension gives you a lot of interesting options when it comes to taking videos with a GoPro - or any other small camera that can fit. The carbon fiber construction is strong enough to survive accidents where a telescoping arm may not. It does take a couple of minutes to set up and tear down, however, compared to the ease with which you can extend and retract a telescoping arm.Consider usage scenario if you're trying to decide between this and a telescoping pole. If you want to mount it on your helmet (as shown in the photo), or use it during skiing / snowboarding / surfing, this is a great choice. Selfies, get the telescoping pole - or even GoPro's grip. If you just need the occasional shot with a 5' pole, you may want to consider a monopod instead. But if you need a light and strong extension pole that doesn't require frequent adjustments, I'm not sure there's anything like this one. 4Nothing else like it. Works very well. Some sort of faux carbon fiber. It's definitely strong but I doubt it is as unbreakable as carbon fiber. Everything works well.It would be nice if it came with some extra helmet clamps. Because you only get the one set which I bolted to a helmet. So that is the only helmet in which I could use the rest of the equipment on. The stick device itself is essentially the product but you can only use it with their attachments. And it doesn't seem like more attachments can be purchased separately. So you're kind of just stuck with what comes in the package. For example, if I wanted to use the product on my car I would have to buy an entire another set because the only clamps that it comes with are screwed into my helmet permanently. So I'd have to pay the full price for the entire set up just so I can get another set of clamps.But the stick itself is light, strong and so far, has taken quite a beating from my wrecks without complaint.[...] 3Five Stars Very nice 5Poles are super lightweight, they don't telescope but come apart in ... Poles are super lightweight, they don't telescope but come apart in segments which has plus and minus. Makes vey light, simple, streamlined. But Limits length choices. Uses simple hole and spring peg to lock segments, again simple and light, also prevents rotation of segments you get with twist lock telescoping systems. The segment system also means diameter remains constant so you can use 1/2" clamps anywhere on length. The lock system does allow a bit of play though, I tightened it using bits of silicone tape at joints. Btw, the carbon poles are pretty strong, had it set up on my backpack holding can above head, hooked it on overhead tree branch while mountain biking. It stopped me in my tracks and actually catapulted me backward into my friend behind me! Might be a good idea to use the breakaway clip provided! 4
