    Five Stars Superb sound quality! 5Can't Handle Warmer Temperatures - BE SURE TO READ!! I ll be transparent. Usually I don t bother with reviews for particular products unless they are exceptional great or exceptionally bad-If you re reading this, you most likely have a general sense of the amount of time, work, and effort to install an audio system in a Car or Boat. For me, I took the time read reviews, and understand exactly what I was getting- even compare amongst other brands & features prior to purchasing for my boat. I ve used MTX in the past in my cars, and they ve always performed well, so why not give it a try? Right? WRONG.Upon receipt of this amplifier, we spent over 4 FULL Days installing this amplifier with a FULL audio system in my boat to spec. Making sure every wire, all power & ground cables were perfect. I worked with my Father who is an electrical engineer for over 29 years to be sure that everything was absolutely perfect.When we tested the MTX amplifier in the garage, it was great- very clear, and responsive. A quick run on the lake, we were impressed with the sound quality. On July 4th, the mecca of lake parties for a boat owner & busiest day of the year on the lake, we took a group of 8 friends with us= 10 total people. When we got to the bay, we noticed the sound going in and out on the boat. When I crawled under the passenger portion where the amp is located (not enclosed- open space), I instantly noticed the amp was going into Protection Mode, in and out. Oddly enough, I disconnected it, and reconnected- same thing. I restarted the engine- same thing. I then rewired the power cables to the 2nd battery, thinking maybe something odd electrical was going on- same thing. In my frustration, I then disconnected the amp, and played music directly from the main deck, factory style - no problem! So that told me something was going on with this amp. It was a hot day (around 98 degrees), so maybe it was overheating? However, shouldn t marine amplifiers be able to handle those type of weather conditions? Obviously- that s why you buy a marine amp. To be sure I shot the amp with a digital laser heat thermometer I have on the boat- 117 degrees. I looked at the manual, and it illustrates that the Overheating protection light goes on at 175 degrees. Should be able to handle it. NOPE. So in the SUN all DAY, suppost to be an epic party and awesome Holiday, we HAD NO MUSIC (Thanks MTX R&D).So all in all, be careful if you buy this and go out on hot days. Although it may say it can handle the elements, after testing it and using it- transparently, this specific amp can t. The GREAT NEWS in all of this, is that I bought this from Amazon and they are very understanding of situations like this. After speaking to a few other buddies with clear & powerful boat audio systems, they encouraged me to get the JL Amplifier which they were playing in the same conditions as our boat. We agreed MTX's older products are a lot better and more durable. I ll be buying it today = Guaranteed.Hope this helps with your decision making process. Happy 4th! 1
