Customer Reviews

Typical Thomson Quality The perfect replacement collar. Looks great and performs flawlessly. I've had others that are still in service ten years down the road. The bolt has not worn at all, let alone stripped, despite repeated tightening/loosening, switching from bike to bike, etc. Just pay attention to the torque rating: yes, it does specify a mere 2.8 Nm. I set my wrench at 3 and call it good. No problems with slippage or over-tightening issues. Ever. I wouldn't buy anything else. 5Typical Thomson top quality Top quality seat post clamp. Thomson has a limited catalog, but everything they make just works.I snapped a bolt in my original seat clamp. My local bike shop sold me a leightweight clamp that couldn t keep the seat post in position through 20 minutes of riding. Within a week, I ordered the Thomson. It has been bulletproof. The sizing is based on the diameter of your frame s seattube. I have an aluminum road bike with a 27.2 seat post. 31.8 clamp fits my frame. 5Sent wrong bolt. Seatpost still slips. I received a clamp that appears to have the wrong bolt. The bolt has a domed head with a 3 mil Allen key as opposed to what is pictured on Thompson's website. The clamp did not solve my problem with seatpost slipping, it just slowed it down. I expected much more for 30 dollars! 1This works great My seatpost kept slipping down with the lever-clamp no matter how hard I tightened it. Now, with this clamp, it doesn't slip at all. Probably wouldn't have slipped before if kept my weight down, but hey...anyway, this will stop your seatpost from slipping down into the seat tube. Recommended. 5Does exactly what it's supposed to do! I had a quick release seatpost on my bike, and it kept slipping down no matter what I did. I got fed up and after a recommendation from my local bike shop, I picked up this clamp. Now my seatpost is rock solid --- it feels like it wouldn't move for anything. I've even had my dad ride my bike around (a big tall football sized guy, at 300 pounds) and it didn't budge an inch! 5This is much better then needing to remove a broken bolt I am a newbie rider in the process of building an urban commuter bike using a kilo TT frame. I don't know who Thomson is but this is a quality part. This is much better then needing to remove a broken bolt. I have bought some origin stuff but this far surpasses the origin in quality. Fits a kilo TT perfectly. If you are debating in saving the 10$ or so don't and get the Thomson. You won't regret it! It also comes with a small drawstring bag that I am using to hold a patch kit. 5Solid Seatpost Clamp This item does what it's supposed to do... and does it well. I ordered one to replace the quick release clamp that came stock on my DiamondBack Trace hybrid bike. The location where I attend medical school has had a problem with bike thefts, so this clamp prevents someone from quickly grabbing my bike seat and running. If they brought the proper tool along and really wanted it, they could still unscrew my seat and take it, but this is an inexpensive way to stop the "grab & goers." 5Great Thomson quality but didn't work for my bike I love the look but on my frame it didn't fit well enough to cover the unpainted part of the bike. I guess I was hoping all seat post clamps were created equally. I'm probably going to trade it for something that another bike club member doesn't need from their parts bin. 4This is an elegant, low torque, seat post clamp that hasn't let the seat post budge yet I'm a bit obsessive: when I need something, and don't know which will fit/work, I get several. This one was pricey, but it is sleek and is full-on with something like 1.8 N-m of torque on it's sole bolt. I weigh 100 Kg and tested the seat right after tightening this on. It doesn't budge. And, better yet, if a tool tries to grab my seat they'll need a tool, not just a flick of the former QR clamp. It's on for good. 5Small part that does its job very well I built a mountain bike over the summer, which was a steel frame On One Inbred. It has a weird size for the seatpost, but this clamp fits it well due to the frame company not really accounting for paint thickness. When I got it, it came in a small cloth bag, which is great for organizing small parts later in, say, an under-saddle bag.The clamp itself is very well machined, and if you can deal with it being slightly asymmetrical from above, makes for a very good clamp. It takes surprisingly little to completely lock down the seatpost. I'm definitely not a very heavy guy, but I can tell that this can take a lot of weight without letting things slip. Installation was easy, as it slid right on, and has a little lip on the inside to stop it from sliding too far down.tl;dr This clamp does its job. May be a little pricy for what it is, but you get what you pay for. 5
