Customer Reviews

Ahh... quiet! I'm a home-based employee for the last 5 years and rely completely on my computer equipment for a living. At the beginning of the year, I purchased a pair of Microsoft Comfort Mouse 6000 (S7J-00010) for my new tower and laptop. Great mice, and they work just fine. But WOW... they had the loudest clicking I've ever experienced. A couple of projects at work required me to work unusual hours (starting at 5 am for 3 weeks, working til 1 am at other times), and when the world is very quiet at those hours, loud mouse clicking seemingly echoes and gets that much louder.Started looking for "silent" mice and came across the Nexus SM-8500 here at Amazon. The reviews were mixed, but I decided to give it a shot. Hooked one to the tower and immediately noticed the difference. Instead of the sharp, loud clicks of the Microsoft mouse, I had muted "dull thuds" for all 5 buttons of the Nexus. My ears were happy again - I can now work early or late and not worry about truly unnecessary noise. The mouse itself is equally functional to the Microsoft - no operational issues with buttons or the scroll wheel, and it tracks smoothly and easily. One thing to note... this is solely a right-hand mouse, as it has a deep right-handed thumb rest (sorry, southpaws). I'm keeping the Microsoft mice as backup, but this Nexus mouse is exactly what I need to work in peace. 5Short lifespan This was my second time purchasing this mouse. My first mouse lasted about 9 months before all of the buttons & scroller ball stopped working completely. I purchased my second (replacement) mouse in April 2018. Exactly 4 months to the day, and it's disconnecting. I have to unplug/re-plug the USB to get it to work again only for it to disconnect 15 minutes later. It's quite annoying since my job requires me to use my mouse 8+ hours a day (graphic designer). I'll be buying a different brand this time. 2It is very quiet ... but This mouse is quiet (I can't see how it could be quieter) It was so quiet it felt surreal using it. It's also very responsive and beats wireless mice by a mile. Now for the downside: whatever material they use to make it soft is far too slippery to be practical. It's a nice looking mouse and it feels nice, but after spending $40 I had to put pieces of scotch tape onto the mouse to give it some grip. While I'm happy with the mouse and will keep it, this velvety, slippery, no grip idea has got to go. My A/C remote is made out of the same material but it's not as annoying on there as it is on a mouse.I finally have a mouse that is quiet and responsive but it looks like it's 6 years old because it's covered in scotch tape. Ah well, that's not all that important to me.The cord could be a bit longer. I have a computer desk with a thin piece of cardboard on the back with a cut-out for wires. Unfortunately, I had to cut out a new area with a box cutter to make the mouse reach. This is, of course, if you're feeding it through the back and not laying it over the desk top.I like the size of the mouse and the weight is acceptable. The forward/back buttons work nicely, though, they too, would work better if the overall grip on the mouse was better. So, all in all, I'm happy but with a little work this mouse could be perfect. You have to wonder how some products get through the testing phase. I can't see how no one noticed that the mouse is so sleek it can't be gripped properly.I'm giving it 4 stars because I don't want to discourage people who want a responsive, quiet mouse from buying it, but the satiny feel is definitely odd. Nothing a little tape can't fix though and now I can go back to enjoying the internet w/out constantly wanting to throw my wireless mice against the wall. 4Great mouse, breaks quickly. I have bought 3 of these mice already. There are absolutely silent. I bought them to use it during class, not to disturb my professors while I am gaming. Yes I'm a terrible student... Anyway, I use this mouse daily for a couple of hours. The reason why I am rating it 3 stars is because this mouse breaks! It lasts me about 6 months to a year and the left button (point finger) either works only if I press it hard, or stops working all together. This isn't a $5 mouse and it should last me for at least a couple of years, considering I do use it fairly often for gaming and research. 3Didn't last long, considering the price! We bought two of these for work in March 2014, and both are now pretty much unusable. One has a problem where the scrollwheel will erratically register the opposite direction during the scroll and result in inaccurate scrolls, and both units are suffering peeling of the soft-touch coating, making it look flaky and generally unpleasant. While they were good at first, we have many non-silent mice that are much older and working without any issues. So, just be warned that unless you're OK with a short lifespan of the mouse, you might also encounter various issues after some wear and tear if you choose to purchase this item. 2Its quiet but also made poorly for what it costs The more I use this mouse the more I dislike this mouse. Construction is poor. Something I would see in maybe a $1.99 mouse. Large sections of the side panel stuck out on my mouse on the bottom catching on the mouse pad. I spent quite a bit of time carving it out before the mouse would move smoothly.Considering how much this mouse cost..... although I see that the price of the mouse has dropped since I bought it. This sort of low quality execution is unacceptable. In addition other parts of the mouse is of lowest quality too. Sensor, cable, usb terminal everything reeks of sourcing the cheapest possible options.Sad thing is that most of the problem that this mouse suffers from could have been designed around without increase the BOM. 1So much quieter! Ok, so this mouse is quiet. Obviously its not completely silent. Meaning, if you were in a room that was void of sound, you could still hear it. Still do not get me wrong, This mouse produces nowhere near the sound pollution that your average mouse does. Nor is the little sound that it does make offensive in anyway. All in all, I like this mouse a lot. The fit and finish is very comfortable in my hand. My only gripe is that the mouse wheel button is too shallow. I find myself clicking it by accident more than I want.Update:So the mouse wheel broke, meaning that I cannot scroll anymore. I really dont like items that arent built for longevity. I took the mouse apart, to see if it were truly broken, or if it was just dislodged, and it was officially broken. The reason is because of bad design. The mouse button is on one side of the mouse wheel, while the scrolling wheel is on the other. That would be fine, if it werent for the fact that the scolling wheel is fixed and doesnt move. So while you apply equal pressure to the mouse wheel, technically only one side is moving down, hence why the wheel broke on the scrolling wheel.Im now looking for a different mouse brand... 2Poor build quality, broke within an year This mouse was a decent mouse, worked as advertised...But it was poorly constructed, and is not durable by any means.Given that this mouse lasted me and my friend both barely an year shows the unreliability of these mice. The problems began a few months ago, when I noticed that simply moving the mouse over a tiny pump or not pressing down on the mouse while using it would cause the mouse to spasm erratically. This eventually progressed into the mouse freezing every 10 seconds. My friend's mouse's clicker eventually just broke. It should be noted that I used the mouse regularly, but treated it well. I have not dropped the mouse or done anything to have caused its malfunction. In general, from the get-go, the build quality of this mouse was poor. There was a piece of plastic sticking out of the right side that would create a jarring noise and prevent proper use of the mouse that I had to sand down. It's certainly a quiet mouse, but is it worth the trade off for a device that eventually won't begin to do its original function? 2Works Great! My girlfriend and I were on the verge of breaking up because I would keep her awake at night with my constant mouse clicking. NOT ANYMORE! Consider this relationship saved. This mouse is so silent she will sometimes forget I'm even home and invite her lover over. He's a pretty cool guy. 5Fantastic! Whether studying in the quiet section of the library, working only a few feet away from a coworker in the office, surfing the internet while a family member watches TV, or sitting in bed while your partner or roommate sleeps, the Nexus Silent Wired Mouse will prove itself the perfect choice for anytime you need to use the computer quietly.Using a Logitech G9X gaming mouse, which is perfect for its intended use, I needed something more geared for productivity, without the annoying click of a standard mouse. With the Nexus, I don't have to tote around my expensive gaming mouse, and I can work on my laptop in any circumstance without disturbing those around me. Not fond of the woes of a wireless mouse, I was happy to find the Nexus available in a wired option. The mouse is sexy and has an extremely comfortable, ergonomic feel. All of the buttons have an extremely muffled click, and the wheel has a smooth rubberized texture that lends just enough grip to have total control over scrolling. To describe the noise further, imagine if you were to place a layer of rubber under each button of your current mouse, turning the sharp *click-click* into a soft *thunk-thunk*.The other day I was showing off the mouse to my brother and bragging about how quiet the clicking was. "Check it out!" I said, just before emitting a series of thunk-thunk-thunks. Confused, he looked at me for a few seconds before realizing I was holding something. Though standing just a couple feet away, he didn't hear the noise, even though I purposefully was thunk-thunking like a madman. I was surprised by this, but I guess that's the point, isn't it?It should also be noted that I've traveled with this mouse several times and have seen no decay to its sturdy construction. Because of its comfortable design, wallet-friendly price, attractive appearance, and solid build, I recommend the Nexus SM-8500 to everyone regardless of their concern, or lack of concern, for click volume. 5
