Customer Reviews

Great for the price! I spent a fair amount of time trying to find a compatible lens hood for my Canon Vixia HF M400. This coupled with a 43-52mm adapter ring works perfectly. It doesn't cover the instant auto focus (iAF) like I thought it would, and I can still see the text around the lens on my camcorder. Does not intrude in the field of view at all or cause vignetting. My camcorder even lays flat on a surface with this installed. It is like this hood was made specifically for my camera, very nice. The plastic is heavy and appears to be durable. This also includes a tightening ring so you can adjust the hoods position just the way you like while keeping the hood tight on your camera. The "52mm" written on it looks a little sloppy, but I have this turned upside down on my camera so I can't see it. It came with some weird plastic light scratches/defects on it that appear to be from the manufacturing process. They aren't really noticeable, but this is why I have taken off a star. What can you expect from an inexpensive lens hood? 4It fits, but not a perfect fit! I bought this lens hood for my Canon Rebel XS/1000D. It does what its meant for and as described its 58mm so I can use it on both my lenses - the 18-55 & 55-250. However, it is not a perfect fit when you try to screw it onto your lens and I was worried about damaging the threads on my lens. The way around for this is to screw it to a filter first and then screw the filter to the lens since it would be cheaper to replace a damaged filter rather than replacing a damaged lens. Also, you will have to tighten/loosen the hood to get it in the position you want. It also does not come with a center-pinch lens cap, so you cant put the lens cap on the lens while the hood is on. And you can't put the hood facing back on the lens when the time comes to pack up and put the camera in the bag. Well, you get what you pay for and I guess all the hoods available within this low price range are similar. I haven't used original canon hoods so cannot compare. 2For the price.. Good.. Otherwise.. The lens hood is a good value for its price. I have it on my Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens at the moment.Pros - very sturdy material, good "barrier" between lens and external factors, I like that the hood can counter rotate (manually, of course) against the focus.Cons - when at 18 to about 25mm, there is a very bad vignetting; interferes with the on camera flash when shooting as far away as 8 feet.It does the job for the price. 3Works OK First of all, this unit is not reversible, unlike some OEM lens hood from the lens manufacturers. So if you are adamant about this feature, look elsewhere. I bought this for Fujifilm S200EXR with 67mm filter thread. It is screwed on and works fine; you can even fiddle with the locking collar in a pre-set position so when you put it on, it wil go to the proper position whereby the larger portion of the hood is on the top and bottom.Twist and lock system or clip-on system would have been more convenient to use but it was under $5 bucks and it does what it's supposed to do. 4Great hood, if you are zoomed This item only really works with longer focal lengths. You will see extreme vignetting (black in the corners) at shorter lengths. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't just two of the corners. If its two, it might as well be four. After using this product, I took it off and didn't even put it in my bag. In the very few cases I have sun hitting my lens, I just hold my hand out of frame to shield the lens from the light. You can fiddle with this hood to spin the longer portions of the hood to but parallel to the landscape, but I find this is more trouble than its worth. As soon as you adjust the focus ring, you will probably need to adjust the hood again. The only 52mm mount I own is on my 18-55mm nikkor, and I would say you get vignetting at about 40mm unless you adjust the hood. Again, I am rating this item on the lens I have. If you have a fixed 70+mm lens, you may forget you have it on. 3Good product for $5 bucks I didn't expect much when ordering the 52mm tulip lens hood. it only cost $5 bucks. This was a lot cheaper than ordering from Nikon, they wanted around $25 dollars for this same item. I was pleasantly suprized by the quality of this lens hood. It was very easy to place on my Nikon D7000. The only thing I didn't like about the lens hood, is that it screws into the lens itself. This is different from all my other lens hoods, which slip over and snap on around the lens. Because of this I am not able to leave my Hoya UV filter in place, this is the only reason why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. 4Not what I was hoping for. I bought this for my Oly 12-60 to use with a 72-77 step up ring, thus enabling me to use my 77mm Canon close up lens without having to forego a lens shade or lens cap. I also bought a 77 mm Oly lens cap. Not only is this lens shade a screw mount (all lens shades should be bayonet), thus preventing reversing it for storage, but the threads are poor, very hard to mount on a filter, and it absolutely refuses to accept the lens cap on the opposite side. It just doesn't fit it even though everything is 77 mm. I have no doubt the Oly lens cap it well made so I have to conclude that this lens shade is just poorly made. 2Great Lens Hood I received this lens hood to replace the stock Nikon hood on my Nikkor 35mm f1.8 lens. When i got it, I was surprised to find that it felt better built than the stock hood. It screws on the front of the lens like a filter would, and has a ring clamp to hold the hood on. On the front of the hood, there are another set of threads so that you can relocate any filter(s) you might have on the front of your lens. This hood works and fits on any 52mm lens with filter threads. Great product! 5Doesn't work with my Sigma 18-250mm lens I didn't know that the Sigma Lens came with a Lens Hood so I bought the Zeikos. I also bought a clear lens filter as a lens protector. The Zeikos fits and screws onto the filter but lines up wrong (the longer part of the Hood are at odd angles on the lens instead of at the top and bottom) This causes the Hood to block part of the picture when shooting at the18mm end of the Sigma lens. I'm using a Nikon D5100 camera BTW. I'm giving the Zeikos two stars because the problem might be the Filter I have on the Sigma instead of the Hood. I can't use this and will be returning it.A NOTE: The Sigma 18-250mm Lens is very nice and is priced well. In addition it comes with a Lens Hood and it works very nicely even with the Filter on the lens. 2Works well, but caveat w/ Nikon 50mm I bought this hood to fit a Nikon 50mm f/1.8.Pros:No vignetting.Durable construction; not flimsy.Cons:Screwing the hood on is a little more time consuming than other hoods.I cannot attach the hood in reverse (for easier packing of the lens). The lens cap attaches to the hood, not the lens. So, when I take the hood off the lens, the lens cap comes with it. 3
