Terrific Small Speaker for Work Desk - Voice Reproduction is Surprisingly Good. I got this for my office, so my needs were different than they would be for a speaker I use at home. I mostly use it to listen to news and a little background music but at low volume. I wanted it to be small, and decent sound, but didn't care about stereo sound, loudness, controls. This met all my needs and then some. The quality of sound for voice (news, audiobook) is surprisingly good; there's enough bass to make the voices sound full. My only gripe is that I wish the phono cord was a bit longer, but that's easy to fix. 5Works well with Alexa Dot. Ok, the sound is not spectacular but fine for news, music alarms and general Alexa interactions. The high marks for simplicity and ease of use with the Dot; simply plug it into the wall and the Dot and you're done. Unlike using the Dot with a portable Bluetooth speaker, there's no pairing, charging or power on/off issues to deal with; it just works. 4Use grounded connection I read the reviews complaining about the buzzing sound and was concerned.It made the buzzing sound when my kindle fire was turned off (it was attached through a non-grounded extension cord.Then I switched from the extension cord to a grounded surge protector...all buzzing stopped....it's the answer. 5Surprisingly good sound for the money and size. I used one of these to replace the 2.1 speakers of someone who hates the sight of wires and speakers, and with this I was actually able to hide the entire speaker behind the computer tower, wires and all. It's certainly not a competitor for even a low priced 2.1, but if you're buying this it's probably for space reasons and in that area it's very competitive. I've seen reviews saying that this is insufficiently loud, and I suppose for some purposes it probably is, but in this large living room it was easily capable of much more volume than could be utilized. For any sort of personal purpose, like a PC speaker, I find that it's more than loud enough.I knocked off a star because there is, in my view, a pretty significant weakness in the design. That is that it needs two separate cables, a power and an audio cable. In my opinion, Logitech should redesign this speaker with a single USB cable. Reducing clutter isn't a priority in 2.0 and 2.1 systems, arguably, but it almost certainly is on the Z50, so that modification would get it 5 stars from me. 4Bought in 2013! I can't believe I got this thing back in 2013! It's been on my desk hooked up to my PC ever since and I use it regularly. For a small speaker, it sounds good and is more than loud enough. Every once in a while I'll move it to another room to listen to music with my phone. My only complaint is the audio jack is not removable from the unit and incredibly short. This limits placement on my desk and can be irritating, but I'm very happy with the quality and longevity of the product and would definitely purchase again. 5"Sweet spot" product Edit: I would not consider buying any other desktop speaker. This thing is just *the bomb*. It will not "rock the walls", but that's not what it's supposed to do. It will provide an *excellent* sound for a small office, however. Best desktop PC speaker I have ever heard. Love it.I love this thing. I know it's hard for people wearing skinny jeans to understand the desire for a quality, compact, desktop PC speaker, but this thing fits the bill 100%. Amazing quality for what it is. If you are looking for small active speaker that has to rely on AC power then this is a great addition. Personally, I use this in my bathroom paired with a chromecast audio, because I wanted something small, match the coloring, and did not need to be charged. The audio quality is OK; good for listening to podcast and some music, if you are looking for something with a lot of bass then this is not for you. That being said its a great little speaker. 5More than good enough to let me listen to my music while ... More than good enough to let me listen to my music while working on my computer. And the best thing about this, to me anyway, is that it is just one thing. Not two separate speakers. Much less clutter.I would certainly recommend this for the general purpose computer user who needs a sound output. My new computer and my monitor were speakerless, so I needed something. This was an excellent choice! 5Fantastic clarity This monaural rendition of stereo signals from 3.5 mm jacks is wonderfully clear and easy to understand. Reflects I think the recent improvements to speaker technology that have been occurring. I find computer speakers are quite hard to understand, decided to try some compact alternative, and stereo is not important for my purposes. Wow, this is the perfect solution. Since I liked it for computer sound, I also tried it for talking on my iPhone and was even more impressed. Note that the device has no volume control, so volume must be adjusted at the source. 5Good looking with a hum that will drive you up a wall I am a classroom teacher and I have this plugged into my computer as the only speaker for the classroom. It looks good, but it makes a continuous humming sound even when I have my computer on mute. When I turn it upside down, the humming is less, but it is always there. When I am using the speaker the sound is good. The humming drives me crazy! I'm looking for a replacement, and will use this on a home computer that's more convenient to unplug when not in use. The price is great, obviously, and since I buy many of my own supplies I need to be frugal. 3
