Customer Reviews

Classy watch with an activity tracker Love my withings watch. I used to have a Polar A300 but it was so big, bulky, and ugly looking. I also got a 18mm Magnetic Milanese Loop Stainless Steel Magnet Closure Lock Watch Band For Withings Activit , Activit Pop or Activit Steel (YESOO Retail Packaging - 180 Days Warranty) (Black) metal strap with magnet closure for it to dress it up a bit more. The included strap is a very soft and comfortable silicone, but I wear this watch with suits at work, so wanted something a bit dressier. The app is very functional and easy to use, and the watch is basically your standard analog looking watch; the exact reason I bought it. If you're looking for something with fancy features and all the bells & whistles, look elsewhere; Garmin or Polar have what you want. If you want something that looks like a watch, not an activity tracker, then this is the watch for you. 52nd unit purchased probably going to suffer buyers remorse. I had a blueberry activite pop. The band performed POORLY and of course, I couldn't find a replacement and had to settle on a multi-colored strap that cheapens the look of the watch and isn't soft and flexible like the silicone. I didn't shower or swim with it on so it was not exposed to harsh chemicals. The unit seemed to track steps accurately, but the sleep reports were total rubbish. I gave up on anything approaching accuracy that I could share with my doctor as health concerns are more pronounced when I sleep poorly. It did sync well, on the fly, which is preferable to me when I don't have to run my phone battery down. Purchased another dressier unit on a deal and a second band expecting the same inferior quality. Right off the bat I experienced pairing issues, which Nokia would like to blame on my device. After overcoming that problem, I eventually got a message that the wrong device was paired, but this was also incorrect AND the tracker had accurately, I assume, logged steps taken. I remain hopeful that I can sync on the fly instead of using bluetooth ALL day. This is an elegant looking device, but actual performance is up for grabs. I still dislike the app and additionally, I refuse to also run location. Might as well find a twelve mile long extension cord or be a slave to recharging off and on all day. 3... back for myself which was about $55 and I loved it. Apart from displaying slightly off sleeping patterns ... I had bought a withings go a few days back for myself which was about $55 and I loved it. Apart from displaying slightly off sleeping patterns it does the other jobs quite accurately like counting steps and predicting a run-time or walking-time correctly. Hence assuming that activite steel is highly priced and therefore with better features and high accuracy I bought this 1 for my mom who loves to keep track of her activities during the day. After spending more than double the amount of withings go($125), I am extremely dissapointed with this product. This has exactly same features as my go. Hardly anything has changed. Does not give correct sleep patterns. Other than this, the worse thing about this watch is that when you move your hand vigorously while you are still sitting on your sofa, it still gives a reading of about 100-200 more steps. This is so pathetic. My mom is really disappointed and does not trust this company anymore. Other than looking like a real watch, this so called smart watch does nothing differently and I paid about $75 more for this piece of crap. I am dissapointed as hell. Dont waste your money on this stupid product. its a complete ripoff. After 1.5 years of use. This has completely stopped working!. 125$ have been a complete waste for this watch. I do not recommend it to anyone unless there is a significant sale going on. 1Great watch, 18 months and going. I love this watch. I purchased in Feb. 2016 and it's been a loyal servant for 18 months. It just died on me a second time, so I will be replacing the battery again. I took it off and realize that in 18 months, I have yet to scratch the glass, or cause even superficial damage to the case. I have replaced the band, but that's pretty minor all things considered. I have smacked it into the sides of a treadmill, into walls, bushes, etc. on runs...but no damage. That's pretty damn impressiveI hate to admit it, but I also loved Withings APP - and grudingly accepted the "love" it gave when I passed certain milestones, like walking further than the circumference of Ireland, or the first time I walked 10,000 steps, 20,000 steps, 30,000 steps, even 50,000 steps. It would send these text message encouragements which I would scoff at, and ignore. NOW they are gone...into the impersonal world of NOKIA's app. I miss the badges, the messages that said "HEY, this is your best week every!" etc. 580% accurate, and that's okay with Withings I have been using the Withings Activite Steel for 2 weeks. While I was really excited to get this, especially as a Lightning Deal, and I really WANT to like it, it's just "okay".APPEARANCE AND BUILDThe watch looks classy, and notice I call it a watch? It truly looks like a normal watch, people are amazed when I tell them it is an activity and sleep tracker. The steel case has held up well, I don't have any scratches or nicks(yet). Same with the glass. I have rubbed/bumped it against door frames when moving furniture and worn it while working outside(horse ranch), so I didn't expect it to survive the first two weeks how it did. There literally isn't a mark on it yet. I had planned on replacing the silicon band with a steel or leather watch band, but I just haven't gotten to it yet and the silicon band has kind of grown on me. It stays relatively clean, washes easy(even dried paint on it), and dries fast.FUNCTIONThis is where it is just okay for me. I was shocked when my first few days didn't count many steps. Granted, a lot of my steps I am carrying items- so my arms don't swing free. But other activity trackers have managed to still be fairly accurate. I compared this to the built in iOS Health app(which isn't very accurate) and this consistently counted 20-40% less steps! Call me a baby, but I felt cheated on my daily steps. I contacted Withings about it and they had me perform a hard test of syncing, walking exactly 50 steps, then syncing again and reporting to them how many steps it counted. Well, it only counted 40/50 steps. That's exactly 20% off! Their response- "It appears that you [sic] watch is properly counting steps." SERIOUSLY?!?! Twenty percent off is within their standards? The sleep tracking function is also just okay. It is strictly movement based. The minute I hit the pillow and my arm is stationary- I am in "light sleep". It normally takes me about 30-60 minutes to fall asleep, but I lay still. I don't expect this level of sleep tracker to notice that, but I know some others do if they track heart rate and perspiration. The alarm function needs improvement, and everyone has been asking for it. You can only set one alarm- PERIOD. You can specify which days of the week it goes off, but that is it. You cannot set a weekday alarm for 6:00 AM and a weekend alarm for 8:00AM, you would have to modify your one alarm each time you want to change the wake up time. This seems to me it would be a simple fix in the app, but it has yet to come in the updates. Also, the alarm vibrates a predetermined number of times then STOPS. There are no options to have it snooze or vibrate later if you don't go into the app to tell it you are awake. I am a deep sleeper, I have slept through the vibrating, but I always have other alarms on my phone since I knew this going in. Also, it has never woken me up at any other time except the exact time I tell it to. It is supposed to wake you during light sleep(I set it for within an hour of my wake up time). I have had light sleep in that period but it has not taken advantage of it. I have even woken up before the alarm and thought "I wonder if it will vibrate since I am awake... (roll over) ...nope, I guess not".So, overall, I'm undecided if I will keep this. It might be going back to Amazon as right now it is just a fancy looking watch. I can't rely on the steps, or sleep, but the alarm has potential. The fact that Withings' goal is less than 80% accuracy doesn't convince me to hang around and see if the bugs are worked out. 3Great Basic Activity Tracker Watch I previously owned a Fitbit Charge and a Microsoft Band 2 -- Both lasted between 18-24 months before the band ripped, which made them unusable, since you couldn't just replace the band. The Band was very power hungry, needing to be charged daily. While both of these had far more functions built into the watch and could be accessed from the watch, I really didn't need all of them. There are only three things you can track without a smart phone with the Withings -- Time, alarm and percentage complete towards your steps goal. The rest, you will need to look at the application on the phone. But this is sufficient for me. I like the way it looks, the way it wears, that it is completely waterproof (I've swam with it as well as take showers with it), and don't need charging (just replace the battery every 8 months or so). It meets my needs better than the current Fitbit or Microsoft offerings, and cheaper also. 5So far so good I have had the watch for 24 his and have to say it is a good looking watch. I have had a few smart watches from two Moto Xs released at launch (Horrible battery life and not waterproof), Misfit Vapor(uncomfortable band) and a generic overseas one and this one is impressing me. Comfortable, good looking, simple and easy to manage. So far only 3 cons:. The watch does not show up in Bluetooth so connecting to 3rd party apps is hit or miss. Also, the sleep tracking is a little of because it is not sensitive enough it seems but still very good. Lastly, and most surprising, there is no way to see your watch in the dark without external light. Not as in a lit display, but as in watch hand that even for in the dark. This is an analog face and typically, watch hand that for is the norm now and this but having it is a pretty big inconvenience. All in all, I give the watch a B-, fantastic for the cost and looks great but a few easy changes would have shot this to perfection.Update: The silicon band is VERY chafing and since the watch band is small for my wrist, I have to have on the second to last notch to give it since breathing room. This may get returned sin unfortunately. Maybe the HR is better. 2Good looking, but won't last a year. This is definitely a good looking watch. I got plenty of compliments on it and when explaining that this was also a tracker, people were in awe. It's a great accessory, that's useful and masks (with style!) the ugly trackers that so many people carry. After 7 months, and as warned (it was 7 months in, spot on, BTW), the battery faded. It was nice to have the heads up as to by when the battery might need to be replaced. And replacing it was super easy. However, there are several issues and reasons why I will not purchase this again (less than a year in, I need a replacement):1- the watch is THICK because the battery compartment is concave and sticks out, which you don't see much in the photos they share.2- the crystal breaks (cracks) very easily (I don't do violent sports, neither do I have a propensity to fall or bang my wrist)3- for the past 6 weeks, the actual watch function isn't working properly, running 20 minutes late about every other day. Even when resetting the time (I'm down to resetting it twice a day), the watch still lags 5 minutes behind by the end of the day. This should not be a battery issue if I follow the 7 months' battery time pattern. I should have 2 more months of battery life on this one!I was willing to keep it with the scratches and despite it being a little too thick (especially as it gets hot during the summer, the thickness gets more bothersome), but the not running on time is a major deal breaker. As a result, will not replace this smartwatch with its newer version - it simply no longer strikes me as a quality product due to points 2 & 3 above mentioned. It's a good looking watch and tracker, but since it won't last a year (scratches and failure to provide the time properly) I, unfortunately, cannot recommend it. 3Classy tracker My husband had the Activite Pop for one year. The battery even lasted the exact 8 months!! The watch was well 'sealed' so that sweating & showering didn't affect it!!! It was a great watch and he wore it out!! So I ordered the Activite Steel for him. I chose it because it looked snazzier:)Sadly had to return the first Activite Steel watch because it kept displaying arbitrary times. We resynced it several times in the 3 weeks he had the watch. The resyncing was successful for only a few days before the time was again displaying wrong. So we contacted Amazon and they wonderfully replaced it with the same style watch. Here's where it gets interesting. This second watch has a slightly different face style for the "steps". And it had protective plastic on the back of the watch which we needed to remove. The first watch did not have this part of the packaging. So we are left wondering whether the first watch was a re-conditioned watch?! Maybe that is why the first watch had continued time display problems. Now we hope this replacement watch is the right stuff because this is otherwise a classy, fabulous and accurate tracker!!! 5A clean, elegant activity tracking watch. The Withings Steel watch is similar in design to the Garmin Vivomove and the Timex Metropolitan. These are analog watches that connect to a smartphone app to track activity. All three watches are of a design that lets the user track their physical activity while wearing a watch that doesn't have a techy or nerdy design. The three watches have a quartz analog movement combined with a connected Bluetooth system that syncs with an accompanying app. The Withings watch is slim, light and comfortable on the wrist. The quick release straps allow the user to change the watchband to a dressier style. The dial is suited for a more formal wear having an hour and minute hands, but no seconds hand. There's no day/date readout and the hands do not glow in the dark. At the 4 and 5 o'clock position on the dial is an analog dial that shows the percentage towards the step goal set on the app. Unlike the Timex and Garmin watches, the Withings watch does not have a crown to set the hands. Instead, the hands are set thru the HealthMate app. After using the included pusher tool to push the button on the back of the watch to turn it on, pairing the watch to the app is simple. The app will show a circle on the phone's screen and swiping around the circle will cause the hands on the watch to move. Just swipe to set the hour and minute hands to 12 o'clock and the activity hand to zero and the watch will automatically set the hands to the correct time. The Health Mate app is like the app for most other smart watches. It allows for the setting of step goals, keeps track of sleep, activities and weight. On launching the app, it will locate the watch, sync the info and set the watch to the correct time. The app also allows the user to set an alarm on the watch which will vibrate the watch at the appointed time as well as about a half hour before to gradually wake up the user. I set my watch for a 6:30 am alarm and the watch will vibrate around 6am. The watch battery has an expected 8 month battery life as the Bluetooth connection stays on just long enough to sync information. The watch has a clean and simple design. It only tracks steps, sleep and percentage towards step goals on its face. It connects and syncs to the Health Mate app within about 30 seconds of app launch.Pros:Light, comfortable and slim.A simple dial arrangement designed for a more formal and dressy wear.Quick release bands allow for changing to more formal straps as needed.8 month battery life.Simple setup thru the Health Mate app.Cons:No second hand.No day/date readoutHands do not glow in the dark. 4
