Customer Reviews

One of the tools you wish you had discovered years ago I wish I had found these years ago - they make clean and accurate wire strips SO much easier. Never again will I go back to those awful scissor-type wire strippers - these things are amazing! They will cleanly and easily strip even difficult wire such as ETFE/Tefzel. The only downside is it doesn't really strip 8 awg wire that well - the 8 ga slot is for "10/8" and it bites into the wire for 8 ga wires. I have a compatible set of dies on order that should solve that problem though. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D1WXZ0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 5Great Wire Strippers I had used these at work before, but until now did not own one. I finally bought one for my own use. I love this style wire stripper. You line up the wire with the right stripping slot by comparing the wire conductor size by eye to the matching stripping slot. Then with one easy squeeze - Click it strips the wire cleanly. The strip length is from where you place the wire in the stripping slot to the end - as long or short of a strip as you want. There are some limitations. The stripping slot has to match the wire size - if your wire conductor is too big for the biggest slot or too small for the smallest stripping slot it will not cleanly strip your wire. But it says right in the description what wire gauges it works on. And I know at least from previous experience at work that some wire types are less friendly to stripping - I think I recall Teflon wire with thin insulation to be a bit more problematic for all the types of wire stripping tools. Fortunately these are not your normal kind of wiring. The Good:Strips cleanly and easily all the wire gauges that fit it s stripping head - see the item description. You can clearly see where it will strip the wire and how long of a stripped end you will have. You have complete control over how long of a stripped end you get.Once you become familiar with using the strippers, it s the fastest way to strip a lot of wires.Very nicely made!Limitations:It only strips up to and down to the wire gauges listed for the stripper. It is a bit pricey, but I believe it is worth it. 5It "just works" I used to use those regular pliers-style wire strippers for electronics projects, but always found them very unreliable. They would either fail to fully cut the insulation, or would damage the underlying metal filaments. Maybe an experienced electrician could use them with confidence due to working with them day in and day out, but I'm just a hobbyist who very occasionally does a small bit of wiring for a project. This works perfectly though. No special technique needed, just gets me perfectly stripped leads every time with no effort. Maybe expensive for something I only use once or twice a year, but the peace of mind and lack of trepidation is worth it. 5This is the stripper that you want! It does the job well. This stripper does the job! Unlike "self-adjusting" strippers, this one requires you to pick a wire size and use the appropriate hole in the blade, but that's actually what you want. The "self-adjusting" strippers usually push the remaining insulation back along the wire, but THIS stripper keeps the remaining insulation in place -- if you pick the correct hole in the blade. That's a minor "cost" for getting a precision-stripped wire. 5Excellent wire stripping for up to 10AWG... Absolutely love this tool, by far the easiest way to strip wire. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that IMHO it will not work properly on 8AWG wire... the biggest wire I can get it to strip cleanly is 10AWG... if it said that it was from 10-22AWG then for me this is a five star tool. The wire cutter is also excellent but please note that you can only cut wire that passes through the tool... in other words it trims rather than cuts because if for example you needed to cut a 100ft cable in half you would have to pass 50ft of cable through the tool which is not practical, but for trimming excess cable it makes for a clean and easy cut every time. The beauty of this tool for stripping wire is the consistency... same perfect result every time which is important in my solar business. 4Not Good Valie These work fine but the quality is disappointing. My dad has a great set that feel solid and have a satisfying cam action. I found a cheap set at a garage sale years ago but found them to be not as nice. After agonizing for a long time over it, this year I got a gift certificate and decided to buy a nice set just because I wanted the quality.I was disappointed. There are sharp edges on the outside that can cut you, they are just a bit small for my size-large glove hands. The cam action doesn t feel positive in use. They work fine, but don t present a value proposition to spend the extra money over cheaper versions. 3Don't waste your time buying the Irwin version Don't waste your time buying the Irwin version. I did, and after one day I sent it back because it worked about 80% of the time. The Klein tool cost seven bucks more, but works 100% with no f ing around and having to try two or three times to strip a wire. It's awesome, and nobody pays me for my opinion. 5Eh, it's pretty good I guess... It works alright I guess... Like, I'm not going to write a long review extolling the virtues of this particular tool so here are the pros and cons:Pros:- Well sized, fitted, hardened, and sharpened cutting blades that are conveniently user replaceable- Comfortable handles- Makes quick work of stripping most sizes of common wire- Cuts most sizes of wire easily- Appears mostly well made, actuates smoothly, inspires confidence of durabilityCons:- Handles require long travel length to work mechanism, could be unusable for smaller hands or uncomfortable for larger- Doesn't do a perfect job on smaller gauge wire and is sometimes inconvenient to pick proper cutter for size of wire- Through-cutting jaws are pretty useless if you're cutting long lengths of wire as you need to slide the wire all the way through the cutters to point where you're making the cut. If one is a professional and you really like the striping function of this tool I would probably remove the cutter completely to save on weight and bulk and only use a pair of high quality angle cutters for all of the cutting work- It's built like a lot of tools nowadays with multiple layers of thin steel cut to all of the complex shapes and then welded or riveted together in layers. This isn't a bad way to construct tools, but it's indicative of cost savings and definitely does not look and feel as nice as a properly machined tool made from one forging, casting, or even better solid billet of material 4works well, looks like will last a long time day 1 review:Strips #12, #14, #16, #18, #20 stranded very wellHave not tested #10Does not strip #24 (not designed to strip this size, but it is the smallest I use so I was hoping ^^)cutter works well on #12 and belowLooks like a quality build, looks like this will improve my efficiency in wire stripping.I bought these to replace a 7 year old pair of kline strippers that are the exact clone of these Irwin http://amzn.com/B000JNNWQ2I have separate crimpers, so I think this tool will be better for me. 5This stripper may not work for all forms of 22 gauge stranded wire Just got my hands on this wire stripper a few minutes ago. We bought this with the intention of using it to strip 22 gauge stranded wire. According to everything on Amazon and the Klein website, it should be able to properly strip my wire. However when placed in the smallest hole, it does not strip it. It glides over the insulation and shaves off some of it, but its like its 1% too big of a hole. If you need this for 22 gauge wire, be aware that it may not work as advertised.I already called Klein customer service, and they recommended replacing the blades with their smaller gauge variety. http://amzn.com/B00776SKB6 is the link to what you may need. They said they would send me the replacement blades for free, which solves MY problem, but I wanted to make everyone else aware that it may not work with your particular brand of 22 gauge wire. 3
