"Retro" fixture as good as it was in the 80's This REAL "General Electric" fixture design is MANY years old but still functions well and is still the same build as many years ago. I have retrofitted these into closets for many years and the directional pointing as well as the 'light shielding' (from glaring into your eyes) works perfectly for that purpose with a great price. You can use up to 75watt bulbs per the mfg, HOWEVER, I would not use more than 60's or else it will suffer heat damage overtime. DO NOT use Halogens - they are WAAAaaaaay too hot!!! In fact, the best bulb I have found today (especially in the closet where you need 'blinding' light) is the "light bulb look" (top half LED lens) LED units matching 100w light. They run much cooler and also throw HUGE amounts of light only concentrated in the "reflector area" of the fixture; making it incredibly bright and more 'focused' where you point it. 5Beautiful lighting! We ordered 4 of these to replace can light from the late 80's. These look amazing and the light it gives in incredible. This was such a great buy. Used the led light bulbs as they work best! Easy to install. You can pick up a three pack of light for about $7. Thinking about buying more for my closets.Con-One of the boxes arrived with the black inserts broke on all three lights. Trying to get in touch with amazon as i called Westinghouse and it is a bit confusing who should do the replacement. hope to get it resolved asap. I would just like the replacement pieces as it is already installed. They are off white the black insert make them appear grey. 3Light Gray not White This seems to be a quality fixture but it is not white as described by both the manufacturer and Amazon. It's not gray enough to bother me terrible but what's worse is Amazon's refusal to change the description (I gave them 14 days to correct it before this review). It's listed to work with a "medium base bulb", and while it works with most style bulbs, it really needs the "BR30 indoor floodlight bulb" same as most recessed light. 3I'm using regular LED bulbs in mine I bought this knowing that I was going to use regular LED bulbs (vs spotlights). Anyone that plans on using spotlight bulbs really (I can't emphasize this enough), really needs to buy the suction cup bulb changer. There is absolutely no way to screw in or out a spot light bulb. I bought this knowing that I would use regular LED's. That's the reason I gave it 4 stars. However, for my use with regular LED bulbs - 5 stars. 4It's not white. This would get four stars as an initial review (I wait a while to use things before I do five stars or 3 or lower) if it wasn't grey. There's no reason for this to be listed as white. People are expecting white because that's what's in the description. It's not off-white, or sort of grey. It's grey. It works with the colors in my home, so I'm fine with it, but a lot of folks won't be, especially if they have white ceilings.Pros: Pretty easy to install. It's light, and everything you need to install is already in the box if you're taking out an old fixture. My bundle of wires was seated directly over the hole where it's screwed into the ceiling, so that was a pain to try to move out of the way, but I got my daughter to do it since she's more patient than I and has smaller fingers/hands.With 3 bulbs in it, it's BRIGHT. 3It was easy to mount 1. The fixture is NOT white, but gray. Its color did not match the color in the photo.2. The fixture arrived with a plastic trim ring broken, so I had to return the fixture. The fixture did have all of the advertised parts and seemed well made. It was easy to mount, and luckily, easy to remove, too. If the color had not been so poor a match, I might have kept it even with the broken trim ring. 1Beyond My Expectations I am really satisfied with this light fixture. I received the order very quickly. It was well packaged -- didn't look as if it had been 're-packaged after a return'. It appeared to be a brand new box, as well as the fixture itself. Application appeared to be quick and easy. I got a maintenance guy to put it up. He did it rather quickly. I purchased dimmable LED globe bulbs from Walmart. They work perfectly. The difference in lighting is amazing! It's as if I'm sitting outside, and I love it. It's so bright, I'm considering placing a dimmer switch to control the lighting. The fixture is at the dining area that's apart of the large living space and can be bothersome when TV watching. The directional canisters allow me to place one at my computer desk, one at the dining table and the other, living room. One 'hmmm': the color appears 'white' online, but against my white ceiling fan, the fixture is grayish in color. It is not white. It's only noticeable if you're looking up at it. Other than that, I have no complaints. This is exactly what I needed. 5Nice fixture. Here are some installation tips. I am using the fixture as a ceiling light, with three 9 watt LED spotlights, and am happy with it.The fixture can be installed by one person, but it is easier with two (one to hold the fixture, and one to do the work). It comes with installation instructions, but there are just a few things to do, because most of the hardware and wireing are already assembled.I had some trouble with the final installation step, which is to line a hole in the canopy up with a cylindrical threaded "nipple" that is secured to the junction box, then push the canopy up against the ceiling and lock it in place with a "cap nut". Here are 2 tips that make that step easier: (1) use a screwdriver's shaft to guide the hole in the canopy onto the nipple and (2). The cap nut that comes with the fixture is closed at one end, so it can't be screwed on very far. Buy a regular nut that is open at both ends to screw onto the nipple that holds the fixture up. Otherwise, you must adjust the nipple by trial & error until it extends to exactly the right distance below the canopy, which can get tireing and frustrating.. 4NOT a white fixture as stated - and quality problems! These would have been fine, except for two GLARING issues: FIRST: One of the black "trim rings" was broken into three pieces upon receipt! However, I unfortunately didn't know this until I was past the date by which I could return them. (Due to many house projects going on at once, they weren't opened until the handyman installed them.) SECOND: These are not even CLOSE to being WHITE! They are absolutely GRAY, and not even a pale gray!!! Again...I only kept these because I was foolish enough to trust that I received what I'd ordered, and that it was in the condition it was supposed to be. Far from it. I had the handyman install the light with the broken trim ring pointing at closet so it wouldn't be noticeable, but...there is no hiding the GRAY fixtures against my white ceiling. I guess I will just try not to look up!! Very disappointed, and I feel I was lied to since the information clearly states they are white. 2Illumination Where You Need It I have a small, dark kitchen and used to have a single bulb overhead fixture that didn't do a great job illuminating the counter spaces. I'd considered adding some directional lighting but that would've involved new wiring. So, decided to try the single fixture, multi-directional lighting. It's changed everything! I just pointed the lights towards the spots that required the most illumination and that was it. You can choose the wattage you require. I'm in the process of trying different ones. So far, so good. 5
