Customer Reviews

So. Normally I don't write too many reviews but ... So. Normally I don't write too many reviews but felt this one is worthy. First I am a IT tech with 20 years of corporate experience. All you really know is it's crazy fast. Is the Samsung 850 faster? Yes, however, you will never notice the difference unless you have two identical computers running next to one another and running benchmarks. My computer i7 3rd generation with 16GB RAM 2TB barracuda hard drive. 4 years ago it was fast. However, even after fresh installs still takes too long too boot and just do anything. Popped in the WD drive SSD and I basically have enough time to turn my head for a split second before it boots. Less than 3 seconds.Took an image of the drive and finished in 2 min and 33 seconds. 5Made my wife's i7 laptop about 5x faster! Putting this WD SSD in my wife's 1 year old i7 laptop finally woke that thing right up. Before that, she pretty much refused to even use it, much preferring my 6 yr old i5 laptop, with it's retro-fitted Samsung SSD, since that old thing was vastly outperforming her new one! Now I finally have my old laptop back! The cloning software, from WD's websight worked perfectly to copy her original HD & OS over to the new SSD, along with the use of a portable SATA HD enclosure that I already had on hand. Those inexpensive enclosures are really worth buying, anytime you upgrade to an SSD, since you can then use your original drive as a removable drive or for an OS & file back up. 5For $89 it is an amazing upgrade to my 4 year old laptop For $89 it is an amazing upgrade to my 4 year old laptop. Between the ssd and eliminating bloatware boot time is about 10 seconds. My HP Pavilion G7's hdd crapped out and I needed a quick replacement so I ordered a new Dell Inspiron to replace it. I was searching for a cheap hdd replacement just to see if I could fix the old laptop and came across this ssd for $89. Expecting the install of the ssd and windows to be a big deal I set it aside until I had a full day to commit to the install. I had the drive mounted in less than 5 minutes and following instruction found on the internet I was able to reinstall Windows 10 very easily. Probably less than 30 minutes actually "doing" and maybe an hour or so "downloading" or "installing". I can't say exactly how much time "downloading" or "installing" actually took because I got busy with other things while "downloading" and "installing". I must comment that Microsoft did a great job making a clean reinstall really easy and free. Only down side is I prefer the old laptop now because with the ssd it is faster than the Inspiron... so the Inspiron was a waste of money since I only use it for backup on it's 1.5 TB hdd at this point. I like the led display on the Inspiron better than the Pavilion so maybe when they get cheap enough I'll get a 1 TB ssd and try cloning the hdd in the Dell. 5Very good SSD This drive is not the fastest ssd drive, but it is more than fast enough. This drive has a partial metal case and feels very sturdy.Easy to setup on Linux.......I cant respond to using this with Windows but it should work fine.Several times more expensive than a spinning drive, but several times faster.I have two of these drives and would recommend.Update: The drives are still running fine but wanted to mention if your using an SSD drive via a USB external drive. SSD drives need to be powered up or turned on at least once a year, other wise you could risk data loss. Some say you could stretch it 2 years but why risk it. All you have to do is power it on and let run for a few minutes and your good for another year. I power my drives on every few months. So you can use SSD drive or archiving you just have to be aware of this difference compared to a spinning hard drive. 5Great SSD and a great price Easy install, needed 3rd party transfer software. There are several to choose from. Follow transfer instructions found many places on YouTube. Yes, there are usage life limits on SSD drives but if you are an average user it works out to be 20 years or so. When was the last time you had any computer part for even 10 years? Significant increase in computer speed, I mean really significant. Once it gets past the BIOS start and goes to Windows the boot is almost instantaneous, no more chugging and grinding through numerous apps to start. I don't think could go back to a spinning drive after this. By the way because of the nature of the beast the more empty room you keep on the drive the longer it will last. Keep at least 20% free and you will have a happy hard drive. If you are a techno weenie who over analyzes things then there are faster drives but at a much higher price and in reality you will never see any difference. Spend that extra money and just get a larger drive and you will be happier. YouTube will answer all more specific questions you have. 5Value, good support software. Perfect SSD I've install a couple of these WD Blue SSDs as an alternative to Samsung (I fix computers). I've used Kingston (failed), OWC, Sandisk, and Samsung SSDs. The WD is a great value and just worked. It's fast. Don't forget to go to their support website to get the free copy of Acronis to clone your drive, and the SSD Dashboard to set up Trim. 5reads 500 writes 400 reads 500 writes 400 on bench mark, great price 5Used for data storage, installation not immediate, perfect performance so far...! In spite of the fact that specific programs to qualify HD performance including Windows Checkdisk reported that our disk were OK, I bought two of these SS disks which are not disk anymore to replace old, conventional spinning disks used to store programs and data in our computers. We planned to clone the existing disks and replace the old disks, using a program provided by W. Digital and created by Acronis, to carry out such task. According to the instructions, the operation was supposed to be very easily accomplished. As simple as: Install SSD, clone existing, replace existing and that s all. Well, in my personal experience, that was not at all that easy. To begin with, the SSD were not detected automatically by Windows; even using Windows Administrative Tools it was not immediate for the OS to recognize them completely. The SSD had to be formatted, and the formatting should be exactly the same as the original disk to be cloned, for the cloning be possible. The instructions provided by the cloning program are really minimal. I had to try a number of tricks and different setups to make the OS see the disks, and the cloning program do they job. However, once I solved all the inconveniences which probably were due to problems in our computers caused by the original HD which were far more defective than reported by supervisory programs, the performance of the computers improved immensely. The change in performance of our computers was worth all the perspiration, time and trials that I had to go through in order to make the system work as expected. If the performance of the computers does not deteriorate with time, and the SSD are dependable and have a reasonable long life, I strongly recommend this product. 5I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. I picked up a couple of these when they were on sale. I have to say that I am very impressed with this SSD. I wasn't expecting it to be as fast as a Samsung EVO, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up putting one of them in an HP AiO computer that was incredibly slow, and now it is like a new machine. I also put one in a family members laptop as she was complaining it was slow. I cloned her hard drive to the SSD and put the SSD in the laptop, and she says that she is glad she didn't purchase a new laptop. I also put two in my server that runs VMWare. I used one to use as an SSD Datastore for OS partitions, and the other I use for Flash Read Cache on my Plex server.I can now say that I will look at Western Digital Blue SSDs when purchasing more SSD space. It has thoroughly surprised me. 5Good enough for my needs, it doubled the performance of a very slow PC Drive works perfectly. In fact, it doubled the performance of a very unimpressive cheap PC. For the longest time I could barely stand to use the PC that this drive went into. But now, while it's not a top shelf speed demon by any means, it is much more tolerable to use. 5
