Customer Reviews

Good Punch Down Tool I use it every day and have yet to have a problem with it. Just a standard punch down tool for telecom and low voltage technicians. Comes with an extra blade for different situations, as well as punch pressure control.Pro's: Punch pressure control, lock for extra blade concealed in handle.Con's: None so far 5Still going strong after multiple network installs! My team and I just finished up a 30,000 square foot network install. Running cable, drops and terminating all ends in the switch room and in the walls. When you are looking for a quality punch down tool, you want it to be built well, punch well and the cutter needs to do it's job. There is nothing more annoying that trying to punch down cable and the cutter not doing it's job leaving frayed ends and not falling off. If you've done this kind of work then you know what I'm talking about.I've used this punch down tool for hours and hours and it's been amazing! What could take you a long time with a bad punch down tool, this tool makes quick work of hard jobs. It cuts true every time and actually does what it's suppose to do! I've used it on tons of patch panels in the server room and so many drops in different offices. I'm in and out in a jiffy and overall very pleased with this punch down tool. 5Does what it should Being a non IT trade tech i found this Trendnet punch down tool perfect when making approximatly 42 rj45 plugs. Of these 336 individual connections, all 336 rang out perfect. Be sure that the solid wire being landed lays straight in and out of the slot. The tool cuts the end off well, i just angled the blade a little to ensure quick cut. I actually did not change factory setting. I would buy it again but... i wont need another as the tool is sturdy and solid. 5Great Tool, Worked Flawlessly I was adding network jacks throughout my house and needed this to punch down the Cat 6 cable in the jacks and the patch panel. It worked great and only took a few minutes to get comfortable using. It held up fine and did its job perfectly, considering I had to use it more than 100 times. I installed 4 Monoprice Surface Mount Box Cat6, Double (107093) jacks around the house (total of 8 lengths of Cat 6 cable) and ran those cables to a Cable Matters 12-Port Vertical Mini Patch Panel with 89D Bracket in the basement. With each Cat 6 cable having 8 tiny wires inside, that's 8x8x2 (128) times I had to use this punch down tool. Needless to say, I got quite comfortable using it and everything worked out perfectly. I couldn't have done the job without this thing. 5Blade/bit needs to be made out of a harder material and is out of spec requiring multiple punches. Does it look good? YesDoes it work? Not anywhere near as well as I expected for a name brand productI've found a cheaper model that looks identical and works perfectly so this is no longer in my bag.The blade/bit that's suppose to cut the excess wire after punching down a jack indented in and no longer cuts. Was used on standard CAT5E and CAT6 cabling so it's not like the wires I was trying to cut were hardened steel or anything. Also requires multiple punches to completely seat the wire. The $1 dollar network tool/wire stripper works better for punching down than this does. 1Punch It Up! Or down, I guess. I compared several punch down tools. I have several Klien tools, so that was my first choice. I compared them to the Klien version and read numerous reviews. Several reviews said they were a clone of the Klien. I have used mine many times and have not had any issues so far. The tool punches down the conductor and cuts off the excess wire, and all of my connections have been confirmed, so it does what it was designed to do. Setting the punch-down impact is easy, with the thumb screw. Klien may have them beat on durability, but only time will tell. If I was buying one to use every day, I wouldn't mind spending the extra money. For home or occasional use, this tool should meet my needs. 5Nice less expensive version of the Fluke punch down tool I normally use a Harris (now Fluke) D-814 that I've had and enjoyed for over 2 decades, so my review is based on experience with the higher end tool. I sometimes need a second punch down tool or don't have the Harris/Fluke with me, so I thought I'd try the TRENDnet.Side by side with the Harris/Fluke, it is obvious that TRENDnet copied the Fluke time-tested design very closely. The plastic is lighter and has a less substantial feel to it. The knobs/wheels are hollow instead of solid. The springs for the impact adjustment and blade storage are not as tight as the Harris/Fluke tool. The body of the tool is slightly larger and more squared off at the edges so may not be quite as comfortable if using it for an extended period. Despite these differences which I'm sure is how the lower price point is achieved, the tool is solid and works well. If I did not have the Harris/Fluke to compare it to, I'm sure I'd be thrilled with this unit and I probably would have given it 5 stars. The blades interchange perfectly with the Fluke blades and tool. The 110 blade has a slightly different profile than the Fluke blades that I have, but it works well regardless. The cutting blade is thicker towards the tip and thinner away from it, so it may not last as long. When all is said and done, I think this is a great punch down tool for the price. If I was looking for a primary tool to be used every day in a professional environment, I'd lean towards the Fluke. I don't know if this will last 20+ years like my Harris/Fluke, but for less frequent use or if you expect to lose it, loan it and never get it back, etc. I'd say this can't be beat for about 1/3 of the price of the Fluke.I don't know how to caption the photos, so I will describe them here:Th first photo is the TRENDnet tool and blades. The 110 blade is installed, and the Krone blade is in front. Also shown are the blade covers, which are a nice touch. The photo of the three blades shows a Fluke 110 blade in the foreground, the TRENDnet 110 blade in the middle, and a Fluke Eversharp blade (silver) towards the back. The photo of the two blades has a Fluke 110 on the left and the TRENDnet 110 on the right. They are nose-to-nose so you can see the difference in profiles. In the group of photos showing two tools, the TRENDnet is on the top or right, and my old Harris (now Fluke) D-814 is the yellow and blue tool on the bottom/left. 4Works even for amateurs I decided to tackle the house's wiring and switch everything over from RJ11 to RJ45. We had run Cat5e cable throughout but the terminations were either incomplete or suitable for telephones. This punch down tool works great, both for the keystone jacks and for the punch panel I purchased. I'm trying to go slowly and test as I go because the real trick is making sure that the wires are in the right order! So if a 58 year old lady with no experience can successfully use this tool, anyone can. Highly recommended, don't use cheap tools. By the way, for Cat5e, I use the "low" setting and punch twice. 5Great tool. Solid construction. Made the job easy! I have used this tool to punch down close to 200 points on a Trendnet patch panel and Monoprice keystone jacks with great results. Over 95% of attempts have a perfect result. The occasional wire that doesn t fully clip requires very little twisting effort to liberate. The blade is still cutting well and there is a spare included so I expect this to last a long time. I used the Krone end with low impact setting exclusively. Would recommend. 5Very happy with the quality of the tool This may not be a "pro grade" that will do a million punches, but I don't need that. I needed something that was a step up from the bundled plastic ones, and this is a few steps up.The tool is heavy and quite substantial. It felt a lot stronger than I expected it would. Overall, I'd say a significantly better value than I expected. This may very well be a punch tool that will easily do thousands of punches, but it's definitely a tool that will do dozens if you're a hobbyist doing up keystone jacks in your home and for friends. 5
