    Did not work for me. Did not work for me. The packaging was well done and kit complete. My computer skill level is somewhat above average having assembled several PCs over the years, however, I just could not get the Mac Air to backup/mirror to the supplied SSD. The Apple mirror process appears to be simple enough and the supplied generic instructions clearly written. After several attempts, I gave up a day of my time and returned the product. Amazon and seller were great and accepted the return without question. After 18 years of using Amazon, still a loyal fan of Amazon! 2Wow ... amazing storage and sooo easy to install! Note that I just finished installing this SSD, so my review can only cover the ease of installation and not the longevity of the product -- that said, if any issues arise in the future, I will update my review.Now, for what is so fantastic about this ... I ordered the JetDrive 500 960GB SSD for my MacBook Air 4,2 (mid-2011) ... there is some conflicting info about whether or not the 960GB works for the MacBook Air, but it does ... go to the Transcend website and/or email them directly if you have any questions.Basically, I now have a new computer for a fraction of the cost of replacing my MacBook Air, with quadruple the storage it had and double the max storage available on any new MacBook Air! I am over the moon - no more shuffling files from my computer to an external hard drive and backing up multiple hard drives and worrying if I'm approaching my max limit (yet again) ... I have nearly a terabyte of internal storage! How amazing is that?!The INSTALLATION was pretty darn easy ... I agree w/ others' assessment that the quick install guide included w/ the drive is useless (and a waste of paper), but the online video is spot on ... it seems too easy to believe, but when you finish installing, you will be a believer! The most laborious and time-consuming aspect is cloning the existing drive. Like some other people, I wound up having to install the free 30-day trial version of Carbon Copy Cloner b/c the built-in Mac disk utility wasn't up to the task (if you have a corrupt file, it will arrest the cloning process rather than skip the file and continue cloning uncorrupted files - this is pretty infuriating if it doesn't encounter the corruption until 2 hours into the clone ... CCC will skip the corrupt files and tell you what they are and continue cloning your drive). This, however, has absolutely nothing to do w/ Transcend.So once you get the drive cloned, on to opening up the MacBook Air and swapping out the SSDs ... OMG so EASY! Just like the video! I also used some canned air to blow out some of the accumulated dust inside the case, swapped out the drives, slapped the back on, booted up and VOILA! My computer and all my files were there and lightning fast!One caveat, a few passwords and keys needed to be re-entered ... so far, I only needed to sign back into Dropbox and I had to re-enter my Office for Mac product key, so make sure you have those things handy, if need be. I also did a backup before embarking on this whole process, just in case.BUT HONESTLY, BOTTOM LINE - I HAVE A "NEW" COMPUTER!!!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!! Thank you, Transcend!!!!!!!!! 5Fast, but hard to install if using FileVault Steps I took to get this to work:Disabled FileVault. This was necessary to allow booting to the restore partition -- 2 hours (plus 2 hours researching solution)Booted to the restore partition (by holding down "option" while booting) and used the disk utilities to copy my old drive to the Jet Drive -- 2 hoursRe-enabled FileVault on the old drive (so it remains safe while lying around the house) -- 2 hoursPut the Jet Drive in the machine. -- 5 minutesBooted into internet restore mode (by holding down Command+R while rebooting) and reinstalled mavericks over the top of my system. This was done to create the recovery partition, which I'm told is required for FileVault to function. -- 2 hoursInstalled the Jet Drive utilities and enabled TRIM. -- 5 minutesEnabled FileVault on the new drive -- 1 hourSpeed of the old drive (MB/s): write: 120, read: 140Speed of the JetDrive (MB/s): write: 430, read: 500 3Compatibility issue with MacBookAir4.2 Transcend docs state this works with the macbookair4.2. It does NOT work with ours. Fails to format by just hanging. Fails to recognize after format attempt. Used the Terminal methods... Fail. Used the Transcend toolkit... Fail. Hook it up to a PC and it works just fine. Cleared it with PC. Then the macbook would see it and try to format it again. Just hangs for hours without completing any of the tasks. Also, hooked up to a mac and the indicator led is GREEN. Hooked to a PC and it is BLUE. Nowhere in any docs is this explained. Also, there is NO customer support channel available for Transcend. Since it works fine on the PC, we determined it would most likely be a compatibility issue so we are just returning it.FYI this issues was on the MackbookAIR4.2 running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4. Also, the instruction screens both in the manual AND downloaded PDFs do not match the actual Macbook screens. Most likely outdated material. 1If I can do it, so can you! Didn't think I could install this on my computer (MacAir mid 2011, 4,2) but amazed myself. When I first tried, the HD wouldn't allow me to copy (Macintosh HD drive was greyed out). I tried a second, third and fourth time. I became frustrated and called Transcend (no customer service available on weekends). I literally had boxed up the product to ship back and was going to order one from OWC who has 24 hour support. My husband asked me, if it was the product or apple. I immediately became defensive and responded, "the product, there's nothing wrong with my apple. I want a company with support when I need it." I researched and couldn't find anything on google (frustration level steadily increasing). I decided to go back to Amazon and read the reviews more thoroughly again. Behold, I found my answer in the third review. My HD was encrypted. I found instructions on how to turn FileVault off (click on apple in left corner - system preferences - security & privacy - FileVault tab). It worked!!!:) It took (me) about 30 minutes to install the SSD (I went step by step watching and stopping the transcend video) and 2 hours to copy. I finally was able to update my system software and add programs back that I had deleted because of space. My computer is like brand new! Thanks Amazon for allowing customers to provide important feedback. A lot of times, the answer to your question is right there in front of you in the reviews or answered questions section. Thank you Transcend for providing an excellent product, that's easy to install and saving me lots of me. This product is well worth the investment. 5Worked after a few problems I was following the instructions provided by the manufacturer when I quickly ran into the same error as another reviewer (F. Akhbari), namely, "once I try to restore into the new hard drive, the restore utility errors out with Input/Output Error". I contacted Transcend and received the same feedback he receive: check connections or the error is due to your old drive (which tested fine).I found a work around after I determined the true cause of the problem: the enclosure is a USB 3.0 and the port on the laptop is a USB 2.0.Here is what I did to reach this conclusion:- I attached the enclosure with the Transcend JetDrive to a new MacBookPro (USB 3.0) and was able to clone its built in drive onto the JetDrive with no problem. So that confirmed the JetDrive and its enclosure/cable are ok.- I attached an external drive (USB 2.0) to the MacBookAir and was able to clone the internal drive onto it with no problem. So that confirmed the internal drive on the MacBookAir and the USB port are ok.- I attached the JetDrive to the MacBookAir and attempted to clone the internal drive using Carbon Copy Cloner. After copying 1 GB, Carbon Copy Cloner failed with a problem with the destination drive, i.e., the JetDrive. But we know the drive is ok.So I noticed that the only combination that failed is the USB 3.0 drive connecting to the USB 2.0 port. Not sure what caused the failure, whether it is a driver causing data under run, or the actual physical connection at the port. But the failures (which I reproduced multiple times) occurred around the 1 GB data transfer threshold. This leads me to think it was a software/firmware issue. I know a 3.0 drive should be compatible with a 2.0 port, but the internet has many examples of people having this issue.Here is the work around I used:-I attached the enclosure to my MacBook Pro and installed MacOSX on it. This gave me the added bonus of installing an OSX recovery partition on the Jetdrive.-I installed the Jetdrive in the Macbook aIr and then restored my files on the Jetdrive from my (USB 2.0) backup drive.Everything is working fine now. Just too many hours of debugging. 4Great SSD and easy to install First I was a little surprised that the SSD was packaged so well. It came in a nice box with two screw drivers, a cable, the enclosure and a case for it, all packed very nicely. I followed the quick start guide to clone the old drive to the new, One error I found in the quick start guide was it stated to hold the option key when restarting the computer to bring up the Disk Utility. On my Macbook Air you hold the command and R to bring up the disk utility. Other than that the directions were correct and I had no problem cloning the new drive. It took about 1 1/2 hours to clone the drive and another 10 minutes to install the drive into the computer. The screws on the computer case are very small, just take you time, the two middle screws on the hinge side are longer than the other. Be careful on putting them back in as the cross thread easy and then won't seat correctly. Bottom line is I'm glad I picked the Transcend SSD, works great now if its lasts I'll be a happy camper. It does have a 5 year warranty. 5Amazing product! Must buy. Outdated installing Instructions, however. First of all, unless you're still using older versions of OS X than what is out right now, the installation instructions they've provided here on Amazon won't entirely work for you. They are outdated, and I just wish they'd update it. However, if you go to the Transcend Support website, you can get updated instructions.Unfortunately, I had trouble restoring data into the JetDrive the usual way (Using Disk Utility from boot screen), possibly due to FireVault.So I chose an easier path and used Carbon Copy Cloner. It's extremely simple, free (got the trial version) Took me about 2 hours for the whole thing, and it's been working flawlessly ever since.The JetDrive is amazing! I feel as if it's actually faster than the original samsung SSD Apple used for my MCA. Transcend provides a sleek Aluminum case, and even a very sleek black pouch for you to carry it in. I was happily surprised to find that in there, since I didn't see it in the pictures before buying it. Comes with 5 year warranty, so I'm worry free there. I'm very happy with the purchase. 5New life: Can my MacBook Air really be 3-1/2 years old? I just finished installing this drive a couple hours ago in my mid-2011 MacBook Air 11". It upgraded by measly 128GB to 960GB and has dramatically increased the speed of the computer as well. It's like breathing new life into a 3-1/2 year old computer. Installation was brain-dead simple. I watched the Transcend video on YouTube before hand, and then again while I was doing the work. I was really impressed with how easy the entire process was, especially because I know how hard it is on a PC. Between Apple's good recovery software (used for copying the drives) and Transcend's end-to-end thinking, I don't know why anyone couldn't do it themselves. (Okay, you do need eyesight and finger dexterity to handle the super tiny screws, but other than that...) Before I bought, i used Transcend's charts for figuring out exactly which generation of MacBook Air I had, and for determining which of their models would work well in it. That was simple, and then i ordered the drive. I loved that the product came with a case for putting the old SSD into so it will have a new life as an external hard disk, but once I began the process, I realized how useful it was in just the upgrade process. It took 5 minutes to get the new drive attached externally to the Mac, and start Apple's recovery process to clone the existing drive onto the new Transcend SSD. My existing drive had been encrypted with FileVault. I had read there were concerns about FileVault and needing to manually disable it and unencrypt the drive before upgrading, however, that was not the case. (Perhaps it was with earlier versions of OS X, but with 10.10 Yosemite, it was not necessary.) I simply entered my admin password and the recovery tools unlocked the drive and allowed me to clone it. It took 1 hour 47 minutes to clone the drive (I had 100GB filled on the 128GB drive). When that was done, it took 15 leisurely minutes to remove the new drive from the external housing, remove the old SSD from the Mac, and swap them. (I took an extra 10 minutes to use compressed air to blow out the insides of my Mac and a q-tip with alcohol to clean the air vents, and around the edges. The results were a PC interior that looked brand new.) After booting the Mac for the first time with the new SSD, it took almost 60 seconds to get to the Apple logo boot screen. That must have been a first-time thing, because all further reboots were lighting fast--much faster than with the old SSD. I then started the FileVault encryption processes again, and that took about an hour to re-encrypt the new drive. I was so excited, i kept up the cleaning process and wiped the keyboard, outside and screen down. The Mac looks brand new now. And it runs like a charm. How is it possible that I love my 3.5 year old computer so much?I only wish I had done this a year sooner. 5New life for my 2011 MacBook Air When I saw the reviews for this upgrade kit, I knew it would only be a matter of time. Here it is - my MacBook Air is 3 1/2 years old, and that 120 GB doesn't quite seem as large as it did mid 2011... It's been riding at about 90 to 95% for the past couple of years. If you're reading through these reviews, you're probably in the same place. After my experience today, I say go for it!I got the drive this morning, spent two hours transferring everything from the old drive, and probably another hour here and there finishing up. If you do a little homework, (instruction book is worthless, but there are enough tutorials on YouTube to make that a moot point) you'll have absolutely no problem doing this upgrade. Plus, you wind up being able to repurpose the old hard drive; if you've upgraded hardware before, I know you'll find that appealing. Transcend offers a decent warranty, So this should be an easy decision. 5
