Description

  • The SATA interface 5,400 RPM notebook series hard disk drives are designed for mainstream applications requiring power-efficiency and reliability from their storage solution.
  • Serial ATA (SATA) is a serial interface that can operate at speeds up to 6Gb/s. SATA is scalable and enables easy integration, high performance, and efficient system designs. SATA is the evolutionary replacement for the Parallel ATA (PATA) storage interface.
  • Ramp Load technology restricts the drive's recording head from touching the disk media, resulting in improved protection of the drive while being transported and less wear to the recording head.
  • Optimized for use in power-friendly consumer and commercial computing systems, the drive's power management technology provides significant power consumption savings at 4.5 watts spin up (start), and 0.18 watts (or less) standby and sleep power requirements.
  • Toshiba's advanced servo techniques and mechanical design minimizes drive acoustics, making them as silent as possible during operation.
  • Capacity: 1 TB
  • Rotational Speed: 5400 rpm
  • Cache: 8 MB
  • Interface: SATA 3.0 Gb/s
  • Average Latency: 5.55 ms

Customer Reviews

A-okay I installed this hard drive to a fresh MSI gaming laptop. Seems to have no problems baseline. Hard drive reads and writes around 50-80MB/s.- Make absolute sure you turn off Link Power Management in the Intel Rapid Storage settings, otherwise the hard drive will do spin down and spin up cycles to an uncomfortable degree and cause itself to lag, which can cause temporary hangs to software that read from it or write to it on the fly. 5It Performed As Expected and Fixed the Issue The item was a direct replacement for a failed hard drive. I can't offer any information as to longevity, as I'm not the owner of the machine. I can't say whether the system felt faster, or not, because it wasn't working when I fixed it. I can say that it performed good enough as to be usable. The owner didn't want to spend the money on an SSD, and felt the machine performed fast enough with a mechanical hard drive. SSD's are the future, but there is still a demand for these types of hard drives. 5Today, data/media management/protection options are no longer an arm and a leg for the average consumer I have had this 2.5 hard drive for two years. I have dropped it a couple of times and it still keeps going. I have used it as an internal and external drive. It delivers speeds equal to or better than comparable 3.5 inch drives and consumes a fraction of energy compared to the larger storage drives.Early in the game the smaller drives could not deliver the data transfer rates, durability and longevity of the larger 3.5 inch drives. By the mid 2000's this trend started to reverse. The smaller drives today surpass the larger drives in all areas for "consumer" uses. About the mid 2000's I notice that my laptop drives never failed but my desktop drives would fail more frequently. I started using 2.5 drives, even in my desktops beginning 2014, although even at that time the internal storage drives were still 3.5 inch. Since about 1 year ago, all drives in desktops are 2.5 drives. All external storage drives are 2.5 inch. I have yet to have one fail me, even the 2.5 inch drives that are 10 years old from previous lap tops: I use these for base system restore functions at the beginning a new install with programs (not data). This configuration can apply to any desktop manufacturer: A. 120 GB SSD (This is your C drive and only contains the operating system and programs - not data). You can pick these up for, median price $40.00. Your desktop speed will increase measurably and noticeably. B. 1 TB internal secondary data/media drive (like the product featured). 3. 1 TB external data/media backup drive. I use two partitions on both the internal and external 1 TB drives. Each volume is labeled uniquely to eliminate confusion and enhance/simplify mirroring for security and backup purposes.Today, these data/media management/protection options are no longer an arm and a leg for the average consumer. A little know how is required. 5Great price and it works Great price and it works. Used to replace a failed internal drive on an HP laptop. Installed easily. Created all of the factory partitions and relaunched the laptop as newly formatted. Have been using it for about 3 months now and all is stable and running well. 5It is a new, unused drive. Drive came in a brown cardboard box sealed in the typical anti-static bag. First thing I did was test the drive with Crystal Disc. It showed it had been started twice before and had just a couple of minutes run time. Also no signs of tampering with the label to hide a "refurbished" sticker, etc. So this really is a new drive and not refurbished. About 750 MB of data (photos and videos) were copied to it and not a single hickup. Tested various videos and photos to be sure their was no corruption and all is fine. The drive is also very quiet. It is installed in a Sabret exterior portable drive case and after hours of loading data, the drive was barely warm to the touch. I would buy it again. Great price for a Toshiba quality drive. 5Seems Perfect for Upgrading the PS3 Slim: Lots of Room Now! Toshiba 1TB 5400RPM SATA3/SATA 6.0 GB/s 8MB Notebook Hard Drive (2.5 inch)- MQ01ABD100It's only been in the PS3 slim for about a day, but it's a VAST upgrade that falls with in the recommended 5400 RPM drive specifications; I found that SSDs and 7200 RPM drives don't really translate into a tangible/noticeable performance gain, and the 7200 RPM drives can result in excess heat/thermal issues. I figure Sony's engineers designed it with a 5400 drive, so, why mess with what works? When backing up, just be sure to sync your trophies BEFORE (https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps3/) on line at the PlayStation Network (http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/backuputility.html). There are some good tutorials on YouTube: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcSBjGYnPB4) and (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r413YE4cca4).I was able to format to FAT-32 using a Mac (10.6.8); just go to Disk Utility, and choose "MS-DOS" and everything will be fine. The software/firmware MUST be done on a PC...or it just won't work (enter VmWare, VirtualBox, or Parallels, etc).As for warranty questions: I spent the day researching the question, and I found that the MQ01ABDxxx series (mine is the 1TB MQ01ABD100) drives have a 3 year warranty warranty BUT you'll need your proof of purchase. I found the warranty info at: (http://storage.toshiba.com/docs/product-datasheets/mq01abdxxx.pdf). I hope I don't ever need it, since the customer service on Toshiba's end was (in my opinion) hit-and-miss, but I was assured by a friendly Amazon representative, that Amazon's policy is to support the product if for some reason the manufacturer will not; that s why I often prefer to buy from Amazon proper.I'll update if things go south, but considering the original was a well-used Toshiba (from 2010), I think this thing "should" be just fine. 5The drive I got failed after 6 months, and the warranty is no good!!! BEWARE!!The drive failed after 6 months, and then when I tried to check the warranty at Toshiba, I got the following message:Serial number determined to be sold to a system manufacturer with a unique system warranty and should be returned through the system manufacturer. If you have any questions you may contact Toshiba at 1-877-689-4899. Exp Date: 2020/02/15So it looks like these are either used, or surplus....either way, not worth the low price to have to turn around and buy another drive 6 months later. 1Worthy PS4 upgrade Used to increase storage of PS4 , worked great. I went and did research on the difference between the 5400rpm vs the 7200rpm and found out that it's only a 2-3 second difference in load times if that depends on what's loading. Runs great more room perfect. I was a little bummed that after the os was reinstalled it leaves you about 863 GB's for games. So makes me wonder what Sony was thinking with a 500 Gb in the first place? Leaving people with 363 GB's 8-10 good games and it's full for Pete sakes. As for this hard drive quieter than the original. and seems to run smoother when navigating around the home page. Games run the same. 5Otherwise great deal and product I was LITERALLY about to throw my laptop away as it sat broken and unused for over a year. PC stores were looking to charge $250 for just diagnostic testing and more for labor. Found this HDD, the easiest installation I've ever had and brought my PC back to life. Very quiet, fully functional, but it didn't come with directions. I had to look online to see activation steps. Otherwise great deal and product. 5Used for a PS3 drive upgrade PS3 drive upgrade it worked great. With no problems. Easy install was a prefect fit. When you upgrade your PS3you have to make sure its a 2.5 inch 5400 rpm model SATA. 5
